Intro:
Hometown girl Yanet Garcia gets to fight in the Arena Monterrey, her opponent is Cuban actress Ana De Armas, both Latin girls will be fired up for this one, Yanet not wanting to lose in front of her friends and family, Ana still hoping to earn a full contract with the League of Mighty Women stable.
Before the bout took place both women were asked for a few words backstage by the FCBA Networks Alicia Atout, who first caught Yanet heading into the arena with a black gym back over her right shoulder, wearing an orange dress as she nods to the interviewer.
Stopping with Alicia, Yanet admits "I have a few butterflies already and I have just walked through the front door, this means the world to me to win here on home soil in my home town" a serious look on her face as she points with her left hand at the ground.
"Ana isn't the bit that worries me to be clear, she can be as great an actress as she wants to be, in a fight she has no chance, she is facing an arena full of people, only I can beat myself tonight, I won't be getting beat by her" adds Yanet, the model then saying she needs to go as she walks past Alicia to go to her locker room.
Alicia then catches Ana with her coach Summer Glau to her left side, Ana wearing a black tank top and shorts to go with her trainers, Summer carrying her bags as Ana tells Summer to go on ahead, she smiles to Alicia as they shake hands.
Then get down to business, Ana telling Alicia "while I'd loved to have rematched Selena (Gomez) here after somehow battering her and not beating her, this fight intrigued me as normally I fight on neutral ground, to face an opponent with the crowd firmly behind her will be a new experience, I am a little nervous but I am here" nodding to herself as if to reassure herself.
Asked about Yanet, Ana tells Alicia "I don't know much about her, though again I suspect we won't be too far off each other all night, I am prepared to chest up, beat her body, around her head, break her down till she is at my feet beaten, the same I know is running through her head, as I showed with Selena, that style of fight doesn't bother me, unlike that fight I am taking the win home with me" patting Alicia on her right shoulder before she walks by her.
Fighting time, there's a loud roar as Yanet steps out onto the stage, Mexican flag draped over her shoulders as she marches down the aisle with a serious expression, Roselyn Sanchez following all smiles as she hypes up the crowd more for her fighter, chants of "Yanet!" Fill the Arena as she steps in the ring wearing a green bikini with red gloves, hair tied into a braid, the flag is taken off her by Roselyn as she paces side to side in her corner.
Now the atmosphere changes as Ana enters to the stage, Summer rubbing her shoulders to keep her loose as she walks down the aisle, Ana wears a white bikini with her hair tied into a braid too, she doesn't bother reacting to the crowd, instead stepping into the ring with her eyes on her opponent.
Both women come together at the center of the ring, same idea from both as they go forehead to forehead, a few "come on bytch" being exchanged as both mean business, referee nudging them apart, they bump left fists together but more keen to jog back to their corners, the bell rings to begin 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1:
Straight away they are in close as Yanet looks to force the issue, Ana not afraid to match her on her terms, nearly bumping jugs as they swing in close, a scruffy start as both hit as much shoulder and arms as they do where they are aiming at, still the crowd is firmly on Yanet's side as the chants of her name ring out.
Using her left forearm to create a little space, Yanet landing two short uppercuts to the body, making Ana back off, but Garcia doesn't let her get too far away as she cuts off the ring, Ana having to face another pressure fighter two months in a row, not looking to be enjoying the experience as Yanet has her covering up more tightly now.
But Ana is now a veteran, so she clearly bided her time as late in the round she starts swinging her right hook into the cheek of Yanet, whose left has dipped due to her success to the body, back goes the local fighter as she looks angry she was forced to disengage Ana, who stabs in a double jab to the forehead of the Latina Knockout fighter to end the round strongly, bell ringing with Yanet raising her left fist in the air to acknowledge the crowd support for her and that she had to have taken the opening round.
Round 2:
Ana seems to have realised while it might be a romantic notion to beat a home fighter with her style, it's better to use your skill set, that's working behind the jab with movement to stop Yanet walking her down as easily, still Yanet shows her steel to take the jabs before finding a way to dip under one and whack in a straight to the body of her opponent.
Back and forth the action goes with Garcia forcing the issue to get the crowd going with punches on the inside, Ana though showing her own resolve to use little nudges and good footwork to create space, then land combos square into the face of her opponent.
The final thirty seconds sees Yanet get caught around her ear by a left hook, a short shoving left uppercut slams into her stomach, making Yanet groan as she takes a step back, again Ana finishing strong as she forces back Yanet to boos into a neutral corner, the bell dings with Ana all business, no celebration as Summer tells her "good job" as they know they have to keep full focus on this fight, Yanet curses herself as she sits on her stool, eyes firmly on Ana as she taps her toes on the canvas.
Round 3:
"Yanet!" Rings out as the crowd try to spur her on, Yanet using her jab more to try to create openings, Ana continuing to want to keep space between them, Yanet timing her attack nicely as she stabs in a straight to the chest of De Armas, then lands a left hook on her chin, that creates the chance she wanted, getting to the inside to work as she bodies up to her opponent.
Ana trying to push her back, getting rewarded with a right hook over the top into her jaw, Yanet won't be forced back if she has anything to say about it, ramming in a double jab to the chin of Ana to force her against the ropes, the Cuban lass needing to clinch up to slow down the momentum of the Mexican fighter.
They are split up with Ana boxing more defensively, digging her punches into the forehead of Yanet as she moves side to side near the ropes, problem with that tactic is that Yanet lands with a straight to the face of Ana that opens the "Bond" girl onto the ropes, Yanet swinging in hooks, looking to really hurt Ana but De Armas showing a good defense to protect herself from the heavier punches up till the round ends, the fighters return to their corners with Yanet looking relaxed as she sits on her stool, Summer telling Ana to not let Yanet and the occasion get to her.
Round 4:
Both fighters come out looking fired up, trading stiff punches through each others guard, landing right into beautiful faces as their cheeks are marked up, Yanet crouches down but this time gets caught with a straight to the top of her head, Ana trying to press forwards herself, she eats a right cross into her face as both separate and reset after a hard fought opening minute.
It's Garcia who takes the lead in the fight, stabbing in her punches around the chest of Ana to create openings to step into, Ana landing a few cuffing punches around the cheeks of Yanet as she tries to ward her off, instead she is bodied up onto the ropes, where Yanet digs in body punches till she is held onto, referee needing to break them up as they wrestle it out.
Less then a minute to go, Yanet continues to walk forwards, that's always a risky tactic, as shown when Ana times her coming forwards, landing an uppercut to knock Garcia to her heels, tables being turned on her as De Armas starts to smack her back with jabs and hooks, a trickle of blood runs from the nostrils of Yanet as she is for exes against the ropes, covering up till the round comes to a close, both had a lot of success there but maybe Ana has won the battle in the round.
Round 5:
Ana is thrusting her jab more at the nose of Yanet, who is looking annoyed as she keeps her left close to her nose, wanting to be all attacking but is having to think about her attacks, allow Ana to pick her punches more, a jab digging into the belly button of Yanet leaves her open to a flush uppercut to the chin, YANET IS ROCKED INTO THE ROPES, A RIGHT HOOK TO THE CHIN SENDING YANET TUMBLING TO THE CANVAS ON HER RIGHT SIDE!
Ana doesn't celebrate as boos rain down on her, instead getting to the neutral corner for the count to begin, 1...2...3...4... Yanet rolls to all fours, blinking to clear her head, 5...6...7.. Grabbing the middle rope in front of her, she starts dragging herself up, 8.. Up on her feet, she leans against the ropes as the referee asks her to walk to them, it takes a moment but she does, referee giving her some extra leeway it seems, letting her fight on after she raises her gloves.
Yanet tries to wade back in, a jab to the top of her head though stops her long enough to open her up for a right hook, YANET STUMBLES INTO THE ROPES, THE TOWEL COMES IN FROM THE LATINA KNOCKOUT CORNER! REFEREE NODS AS THEY STEP IN TO STOP THE FIGHT!
Winner Ana De Armas TKO Round 5
After:
The crowd for the most part is silent beyond a few boos, Ana smiles as she returns to her corner, wiping away some sore memories from losing last month to Selena Gomez on an FNL card, now she has a win on these cards, Summer patting her on her back before she sits on her stool for a drink and to be wiped down of sweat.
Yanet meanwhile looks bewildered why the fight was stopped, Roselyn having to tell her she was being beaten around, Yanet looks ready to argue but as she stumbles trying to walk to her corner, that shows her that she is in the wrong, instead nodding with an angry look.
After a few minutes where both are wiped down, Ana goes to check on Yanet, just getting a nod in reply, judging by the expression on Yanet's face, she might be lucky to have gotten that, Ana just nods back in reply before walking back to her own corner.
Yanet with help stands up, giving a wave to the crowd as she says "I am sorry" tears filling her eyes as her dream homecoming fight ending in disaster has her fighting her emotions, Roselyn putting an arm around her shoulders as they walk to the backstage area, Yanet shouldn't be too disheartened, for just her third fight, she pushed one of the bantamweights starting to make real noise in the division, one mistake can make the difference as it did tonight.
The winner on the other hand gets her right hand raised, Ana applauding the crowd as she doesn't hold it against them for booing her, that might have been different had she been stopped by Yanet instead, she leaves the ring with Summer on her right side, both smiling as they head to the locker room, moving back up the rankings and getting closer to hopefully being a full fledged League of Mighty Women fighter.
