Intro/Fight:
Jennifer Lopez only competed five times between 2008 and 2020, but returned with a bang going 3-1-0 at age 50, long past the age that many chose to retire. Since, she'd fought only once, but was still in immaculate form for a 20 year old, much less someone in their early 50's. Stunningly fit, but 12 years Peregrym's senior, Lopez only found herself favored in possibly one opening round bout. She likely would have been a shooin to advance had she not drawn the 'Group of Death', but she didn't come out of the gates intent on sulking. Peregrym on the other hand knew this was her chance to guarantee advancement. With Garner likely being a tall task, the second spot in this Pool would likely come down to Peregrym and Lopez, and both knew it. Even if they wouldn't admit as much.
Despite a decent amount of urgency from Peregrym given the stakes, it was Lopez who looked by far the fitter of the two early. Showcasing some of the raw, athletic prowess that made her so feared early in her career, Lopez looked to be a brick house that Missy couldn't crack. Wearing rib-splitting gut punches and countering as if she was shooing away a fly, Lopez parried everything the brunette could muster and paid it back tenfold. Fancy combinations, alarming power, and bullying Peregrym around the ring with a quiet confidence, Lopez vaulted out to an early lead on the scorecard. Missy found her footing somewhat in the second, but by then she was already in a bad way after eating numerous straight pistons to the chops in the opening moments. After putting on a dancing exhibition in the third and simply avoiding all the heart-stopping power punches Lopez loaded up, Missy was finally able to squeeze in some offense of her own; staggering the Bronx native as she shifted her focus higher and rattled Jen's skull with a bludgeoning slider to the temple. To her credit, Lopez waivered but didn't fall, instead twisting up in the ropes and pulling guard for the remainder of the round. If Missy couldn't crack Jen's abs, she appeared to be trying to crack her skull instead.
After trading to a stalemate in the fourth, the tension was palpable as both fighters locked horns just a minute into the fifth. The Canadian had found a comfortable groove in their exchanges, but one slip could very well end it as Jen continued to repeatedly test the cat-like reflexes of Peregrym with callous, calculated overhands that threatened to decapitate the brunette if she wasn't sharp. As the two circled toward the ropes, there was a sudden, gruff grunt as Lopez twirled and slung a rangy right hand into Peregrym's jaw. Missy dribbled her mouthpiece to the mat as Jen pressed forward, advancing on the split-legged brunette as her knees buckled somewhat, taking an awkward misstep backwards. Extending her left hand and palming Missy's swelling bosom, Lopez cocked another thumping right hand high behind her ear; only to have her balance thrown off as Missy swatted away her groping left. With a throaty snarl, Peregrym flexed and coiled her abdomen, ripping through a bludgeoning right-right-right. Jen's eyes bulged wide as the first cracked against her ribs with a fleshy thwack, wailed as the second detonated against the side of her breast, then gurgled as the third snapped against her cheek. Lopez's bulbs rolled in their sockets as her meaty stems gave out, collapsing inward as she face-planted at Peregrym's feet. The entire arena rose in stunned silence as Jen wobbled to her feet at the 7-count, pounding her gloves together and advancing on Peregrym once more. Having regained her steady footing, Missy planted her back heel and vaulted forward through another show-stopping right hand, collapsing Jen's defenses before whipping a trailing left hand into her temple. Lopez hit the ground for the second time in a matter of seconds, this time spitting out her mouthpiece as she rolled awkwardly sprawled on her back. With arms strewn above her head, Lopez's tensed frame gently pitched with convulsions as Missy towered over her, straddling her hip before being shuffled away by the official. A stunning win for Missy, who has already done her part to face Garner undefeated in Pool play.
