Intro/Fight:
The expectation from the very beginning was that Missy Peregrym and heavy favorite, Jennifer Garner, would rise from the smoldering ashes of this Group of Death and meet to decide it. Standing in their way and hoping to bring about a messy conclusion to Group B Pool Play, was wildcard Jennifer Lopez.
Showing some impressive mettle, but ultimately falling short against Peregrym, Lopez was hoping the retired Hall of Famer would struggle with stamina in back-to-back fights. Perhaps the case early, Lopez managed to largely control the first four rounds; dominating two by a large margin and stealing a third on a late flurry that backed Garner to the brink of disaster. Trailing by three points after four rounds, Garner finally arrived with a bang and leveled the score after subsequent imposing rounds herself in the fifth and sixth.
Things were all even as the seventh wore on, until Lopez cocked and connected on a bludgeoning right cross that she'd been daring Garner to challenge all night. Lacking the fleetness and wherewithal to dip through Lopez's latest, Garner's skull sloshed as Jen found her hanging chin, dribbling her mouthpiece to the mat and spilling forward a few clumsy steps. Garner pedaled her long legs to keep up with her drifting upper half, sleep-walking right into another sturdy left from Lopez that found her button nose. Garner's arms slumped inward as her thighs pinched shut, tipping forward and sprawling flat on her face as Lopez defiantly barked from above; planting a heel on the small of Garner's sweat-slicked back before being reprimanded by the official. Miraculously, Garner pushed vertical by the count of 7, shaking loose the cobwebs after being tagged by one of the hardest shots she'd taken in years. Sensing vulnerability, Lopez launched right back into her assault after the brief break, starting the eight round with more of the same. Garner slumped as she was split by a rib-cracking left, wailing as she was fed another right, this time her temple rattling from the bony impact. Curled behind her shield wall, Garner threw a defensive uppercut that suddenly crippled the pressing Bronx native, her bulbs stretching wide as Jen pierced her sternum. Lopez teetered, then found her wind, launching a sweeping right that was just a breath too slow, allowing Garner to parry beneath. Rising with a gruff grunt, Garner pistoned her right hand into Lopez's concaving gut, erupting with a throaty howl as she lawn-chaired at the waist. Lopez dipped to a knee before scurrying a handful of steps, her winded pants abruptly cut off as Garner spun through a whirling dervish left hand. Lopez's teeth clattered as she pirouette from the ferocious impact, twirling on a heel before crumpling folded over her own limbs. Lopez couldn't beat the count, and despite some troubles, Garner advanced to set up a winner-take-all fight with Peregrym.
