Now it is main event time! The undefeated English star Lily James goes into the lions den, taking on Yvonne Strahovski in her home country, the multiple time FCBA lightweight champion will be hoping to give Lily a boxing lesson inside Melbourne's Docklands Stadium, will Lily continue her march to the top or can Yvonne prove she is still the one to beat?
The night before the fight both women were given the spotlight for this card, a stage set up in a conference room of the luxury hotel the fighters were in, heading on the stage from the left side is Lily wearing a black dress, Yvonne meanwhile comes from the right side wearing an emerald green dress, the two fighters slip off their heels to come face to face, cameras flashing capturing this first face off between them, before they step back and pose with fists raised towards their opponent, intense stares from both setting the tone it seems.
After that they nod to each other and get their heels back on as a podium is placed where they were standing moments ago, a few in the crowd start an Yvonne chant, she bows to them with a chuckle, Lily smiling too as she nods, knowing that she will be walking into a hostile environment on fight night.
Lily is asked to speak first, she walks up to the podium looking relaxed, she says "I know that I am coming into Yvonne's backyard, this is where she made her name knocking out opponent's before she got to the FCBA, I know this is the place she holds victories over the likes of Miranda Kerr in, so I am under no illusions that this is going to be easy by any stretch, this very well might be the toughest fight of my life" nodding in agreement with herself as she thinks about it.
"But I haven't come down here to let Yvonne knock me out for a nostalgic moment for the fans, I am on a journey for my first title in the FCBA, that means I have to keep on winning, that means I have to keep on dominating, that means I have to beat you Yvonne, I respect you, still I will do everything to win" Lily says as Yvonne grins, having heard similar speeches for a long time of up and coming fighters.
Lily vacates the podium so Yvonne can get her moment to talk, the hall of famer joking "whoever started the chant for me, I love you too!" A guy in the crowd shouts "Marry me!" Leading to a laugh off everyone in the crowd, including Lily as Yvonne blows a kiss to the crowd.
"OK now to business guys, I know you all came here because I am topping the billing, some will be rooting for me to send Lily back to England with her tail between her legs, others will hope she beats me and shows I am washed up, forty is just a number people, you put any fighter in the ring with me and I will still give them hell, so for those hoping the wheels are falling off me, I can tell you I am still an ass kicking machine" Yvonne says, then surprises a few by throwing a high kick to show off her incredible flexibility, even in heels as she smirks, nodding to Lily who looks stunned that Yvonne pulled that out of the blue, then laughs as she nods at Yvonne as she watches her walk off the stage.
Fight night, first through the curtain comes Lily with her coach Angelica Bridges, Lily gets the boos she expected, she meets them with a warm smile and a wave to the fans, jogging down the aisle wearing a red sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks as she has her surname in gold letters on the waistband, red shoes and gloves, hair in a ponytail as she climbs into the ring, Angelica nods to her after telling her to focus purely on Yvonne and not the crowd.
Who roar when Yvonne comes through the curtain onto the stage, Nicole Kidman behind her as she let's Yvonne take the spotlight, walking down the aisle holding the Australia flag in her black gloves, Yvonne is all smiles as she wears a black sports bra with green trim, matching trunks with "Vonnie" on the waistband in gold letters, black shoes and olive green gloves, her hair is in a ponytail too as she gets into the ring, posing at the center holding the flag up as they chant her name, Nicole takes the flag from Yvonne when she gets to her corner, they share a smile and a fist bump before Yvonne gets that ice cold look that has spelled doom for opponents throughout her career.
The fighters walk to the center bouncing on their toes, the pro Strahovski crowd chanting her name and for her to smash up Lily, the fighters exchange a nod of respect with a respectful fist bump, jogging back to their corners with the atmosphere being electric, the bell is barely heard as it starts 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Round 1:
"Ding!" The crowd cheer on Yvonne as the fighters trade stiff jabs, Lily bouncing on her toes as Yvonne is the more aggressive in the early going, trying to step in with a straight, not full committing when she sees Lily moving away, both women trying to get a read on the other.
Using a feint to create an opening, Yvonne lands a straight into the forehead of Lily, then lands a left cross to her jaw, driving back the English lass to the ropes with a one-two combo, Yvonne has the crowd fired up as she switches to the body when Lily shells up, maybe the occasion getting to James as she isn't throwing much back, instead clinching up just before they enter the final minute of the opener.
Broken up Lily is boxing off her back foot, Yvonne looking to be the dominant force early in this fight, driving in a jab to the lips of Lily, this time though a left hook catches her in return as she loads up a right hook, Lily getting away from the ropes, throwing a little more in the final seconds of the round, the bell rings to end proceedings with Yvonne getting a respectful nod from Lily, who is told off Angelica to not be so respectful from now on.
Round 2:
Coming out her corner landing more a double jab now, Lily not letting Yvonne drive forwards as easily, instead boxing around the veteran, but still getting clipped by some cross punches as Yvonne is watching Lily closely, timing her coming at her as her experience shows.
Dipping down to bury in more body shots, Lily is doing well at keeping Yvonne more at range, both boxing around the middle of the ring, Yvonne landing some good punches to the top of her opponents head, both showing their skills as they are adapting to their opponent.
Less then a minute to go, Lily feints with a jab, stepping back when Yvonne throws a left hook that finds air, instead a counter right into her face opens her up to a left hook, Lily then forces her onto the ropes, switching up nicely herself as Yvonne is getting a feel of why Lily has so many pundits talking about her, landing a few single punches out her guard in reply but being outworked till the bell rings, Lily nodding to her coach, while Yvonne not showing any hints of worry after this round.
Round 3:
Both are exchanging more as they stretch their elbows, Lily looks the faster fighter, landing several crisp punches through the mitts of Yvonne to her face, Yvonne though lands the best punch of the opening minute as she catches Lily across her jaw with an overhand right to turn her head.
Yvonne grabs hold of the middle of the ring after knocking Lily back with a double jab/straight combo, she then closes up to her foe to bang in body shots, wanting to slow down Lily, who slams in a few crisp cross punches to the side of Yvonne's head to ward her off.
While Lily does move off he ropes, Yvonne doesn't let her get far as she slams in a jab into the chest of James, then lands a right cross up top, the English star covering up more tightly, allowing Strahovski to work up until the bell, Yvonne's fans chanting her name as they are happy with how things are going so far for her, Lily knowing she isn't going to step over Yvonne so easily.
Round 4:
Both smack away with straight punches to start off this round, circling and exchanging at midrange as both fighters cheeks are marked up, Lily slips a straight to land a counter right into the lips of Yvonne, then follows up with a left cross to turn the crowd favourites head to the side.
Second minute sees Lily keep Yvonne back towards the ropes, drilling her punches into gaps she sees in the former champions defences, Yvonne though is landing several crisp punches in return, Lily needing to back off when a left cross lands on her jaw to the delight of the crowd.
Another missed jab by Yvonne though leaves her open to another counter, a left smacking across the Aussie fighters cheek, followed by a straight under her left eye, making Yvonne grimace as she tightens her guard, Lily moving her head more to not get hit back as freely, landing several good clean shots into the abs of her opponent to keep Strahovski near the ropes till the round comes to a close, another round that sees momentum switch as these two are closely matched by the looks of it.
Round 5:
Opening up more as they exchange combos then move back, eyes are locked in intense stares behind their gloves, trying to find a punch that will give them control of the action, Lily misses with a left cross, taking a counter right that opens up a cut under her left eye.
Yvonne is like a shark as she hits it with two more right crosses, Lily shelling up as Yvonne presses forwards, driving her into a neutral corner, where Strahovski begins whacking in hooks around her guard, the crowd roaring their hero on as Lily looks worried, grabbing onto her fellow blonde in a tight clinch as blood trickles down her left cheek.
They are broken up but Yvonne is like a terrier, Lily needing to soak up as many shots as she can on her arms and gloves, still she is taking several good clean punches around her guard to either her head or torso to make her grimace, the round comes to an end with Angelica trying to hide her own worry, ordering the cut man for the LMW stable to get her cut patched up, Yvonne meanwhile sits down with an ice cold expression aimed at the woman she was just mauling moments ago in a dominant display.
Round 6:
Lily looks a little tense understandably after such a torrid round, her mood doesn't get better as a feint opens her up to an uppercut that knocks her head back, right cross opens the cut up again as Lily winces, FOLLOWED BY A LEFT HOOK ONTO THE CHIN OF JAMES! TURNS HER AROUND TOWARDS HER LEFT AS SHE TUMBLES DOWN TO HER FRONT!
Crowd is on its feet, some celebrating as Yvonne jogs to the neutral corner, 1....2...3.. Lily pushes up to all fours blinking, 4...5...6.. Angelica has her fists clenched preying that Lily makes it up, watching her fighter get to her knees holding the middle rope with her left glove as there's a small pool of blood where her head was laying from the cut, 7...8... Lily gets to her feet to a mixed response, Yvonne nodding to her for her toughness as the referee checks her over, Lily raises her gloves and shows she is OK.
Here comes Yvonne with still half the round to go, Lily needing to play spoiler each time Yvonne closes on her, holding onto her to slow her momentum, broken up by the referee each time, Lily jabbing defensively as Yvonne looks for openings, just missing with some hooks as Lily leans out the way, her legs look solid again as she gets back on her toes to move.
At the bell there's a few groans as some in the crowd hoped Yvonne would end things now, the LMW corner is certainly relieved as Lily returns to sit on her stool, some of her blood now dripped over her breasts, Angelica giving her a rallying speech as across the ring Yvonne still has that icy look, sweat dripping off her brow looking as fearsome as she has ever done in her career.
Round 7:
Both push off their stools with Yvonne stalking after Lily, both slamming in stiff jabs as they move around the ring with Yvonne holding the middle, seeing her chance Yvonne throws a right hook but Lily blocks it with her glove before moving in with a straight into the solar plexus of Strahovski, who groans out as she takes a step back.
Lily rams in another right to the same spot, Yvonne looking winded as Lily now rams in a quick fire jab/straight/jab combo to her face, forcing the Aussie to back off as some in the crowd now look tense, watching their girl be forced around near the ropes, throwing single punches now while Lily looks to have her second wind after such a terrible last two rounds, the body shots from James look to be doing the most damage.
A desperate swing of a right cross that misses only leaves Yvonne open for a counter right on her nose, causing a trickle of blood from there now, Yvonne starting to breath more through her mouth, being bullied around as Angelica looks ready to jump for joy watching the turnaround in front of her, the round soon ends with a dominant display now from Lily, who has silenced a chunk of the crowd, Yvonne holds her stomach as she returns to her stool, sitting down getting patched up as both fighters are hurting, question is who can get to the finish line in victory and leave their opponent in the dust.
Round 8:
Pushing out their corners planting their feet more, sweat and blood is sent flying off them when a clean hit lands, gumshields are being gritted as they need to tough this out to win, Yvonne misses with a straight, taking an uppercut to her stomach that lifts her slightly to her toes, eyes shut as she gasps out, two left hooks follow into her ear to send her stumbling a few steps to the side.
Yvonne looks worn out as Lily now smacks her with a three punch combo to the face, knees buckling on the Aussie as her sheer force of will seems to be the only thing keeping her up in this second minute, half the round still to go she takes another harpoon like right to her stomach then bends her over, SHORT LEFT HOOK TO THE EAR SENDS YVONNE DOWN TO HER FRONT NOW!
Lily stares in almost disbelief she has actually put down the legend, needing to be ordered twice to a neutral corner, 1...2...3...4....5.. Yvonne pushes slowly to all fours, blood tricking off her nose to the canvas below for her to look at, 6...7...8.. Yvonne is breathing hard as her chest is rising quickly, just looking at the canvas, 9...10 that's it! Yvonne is counted out!

After:
Lily falls to her knees with her arms in the air and a big smile that looks like it will be hard to take off her, some boo her but most respectfully applaud her as Angelica rushes into the ring to check on her and to tell her how proud she is, no wonder she is so proud after this great comeback, Lily looked banged to rights at one point but was able to tough it out to win.
Yvonne is slowly helped over to her stool, for the first time in her career maybe she is showing her age as she looks wiped out, nose being cleaned up as Yvonne stares with a hollow look at her gloves, as if wondering how she failed to finish this fight, maybe wondering if she were younger would she have finished the job off in her prime, a troubling thought clearly to the former champion.
Over comes Lily once she is cleaned up to check on Yvonne, who gingerly pushes to her feet, no hug as Yvonne jokes she is too sore for that, instead Yvonne shows her class to raise Lily's right arm up, showing the crowd that she gets her stamp of approval, which gets whistles and cheers, Lily blushing slightly not expecting that as she bows to Yvonne afterwards to show her respect, making Yvonne laugh as she tells her "I don't think anyone has bowed to me without me forcing them" winking to Lily, who laughs back.
Out the ring with help from Nicole goes Yvonne, letting Lily have her moment in the spotlight, though cameras catch Yvonne telling Nicole "come Monday I am hitting the gym harder then I ever have, I won't go out not being able to finish fights or as a punch bag to anyone" still her fire inside is burning brightly.
Inside the ring Lily gets her right hand raised in victory, she blows a few kisses to the crowd to show no hard feelings for their boos, raising her taped fists for the cameras as she poses for the camera, looking like she has been in a war with the cut and some bruising around her left eye, more importantly though she has the victory to move her closer to a title fight.
Leaving the ring with her corner crew, Lily gets a hug from Angelica before they walk up the aisle, the League of Mighty Women camp looks in a great place right now after Florence Pugh's win earlier, they have Anya Taylor-Joy tearing through the bantamweight division, 2022 is looking their break out year, maybe a title will come their way before the end of this year.

Lily rams in another right to the same spot, Yvonne looking winded as Lily now rams in a quick fire jab/straight/jab combo to her face, forcing the Aussie to back off as some in the crowd now look tense, watching their girl be forced around near the ropes, throwing single punches now while Lily looks to have her second wind after such a terrible last two rounds, the body shots from James look to be doing the most damage.
A desperate swing of a right cross that misses only leaves Yvonne open for a counter right on her nose, causing a trickle of blood from there now, Yvonne starting to breath more through her mouth, being bullied around as Angelica looks ready to jump for joy watching the turnaround in front of her, the round soon ends with a dominant display now from Lily, who has silenced a chunk of the crowd, Yvonne holds her stomach as she returns to her stool, sitting down getting patched up as both fighters are hurting, question is who can get to the finish line in victory and leave their opponent in the dust.
Round 8:
Pushing out their corners planting their feet more, sweat and blood is sent flying off them when a clean hit lands, gumshields are being gritted as they need to tough this out to win, Yvonne misses with a straight, taking an uppercut to her stomach that lifts her slightly to her toes, eyes shut as she gasps out, two left hooks follow into her ear to send her stumbling a few steps to the side.
Yvonne looks worn out as Lily now smacks her with a three punch combo to the face, knees buckling on the Aussie as her sheer force of will seems to be the only thing keeping her up in this second minute, half the round still to go she takes another harpoon like right to her stomach then bends her over, SHORT LEFT HOOK TO THE EAR SENDS YVONNE DOWN TO HER FRONT NOW!
Lily stares in almost disbelief she has actually put down the legend, needing to be ordered twice to a neutral corner, 1...2...3...4....5.. Yvonne pushes slowly to all fours, blood tricking off her nose to the canvas below for her to look at, 6...7...8.. Yvonne is breathing hard as her chest is rising quickly, just looking at the canvas, 9...10 that's it! Yvonne is counted out!

After:
Lily falls to her knees with her arms in the air and a big smile that looks like it will be hard to take off her, some boo her but most respectfully applaud her as Angelica rushes into the ring to check on her and to tell her how proud she is, no wonder she is so proud after this great comeback, Lily looked banged to rights at one point but was able to tough it out to win.
Yvonne is slowly helped over to her stool, for the first time in her career maybe she is showing her age as she looks wiped out, nose being cleaned up as Yvonne stares with a hollow look at her gloves, as if wondering how she failed to finish this fight, maybe wondering if she were younger would she have finished the job off in her prime, a troubling thought clearly to the former champion.
Over comes Lily once she is cleaned up to check on Yvonne, who gingerly pushes to her feet, no hug as Yvonne jokes she is too sore for that, instead Yvonne shows her class to raise Lily's right arm up, showing the crowd that she gets her stamp of approval, which gets whistles and cheers, Lily blushing slightly not expecting that as she bows to Yvonne afterwards to show her respect, making Yvonne laugh as she tells her "I don't think anyone has bowed to me without me forcing them" winking to Lily, who laughs back.
Out the ring with help from Nicole goes Yvonne, letting Lily have her moment in the spotlight, though cameras catch Yvonne telling Nicole "come Monday I am hitting the gym harder then I ever have, I won't go out not being able to finish fights or as a punch bag to anyone" still her fire inside is burning brightly.
Inside the ring Lily gets her right hand raised in victory, she blows a few kisses to the crowd to show no hard feelings for their boos, raising her taped fists for the cameras as she poses for the camera, looking like she has been in a war with the cut and some bruising around her left eye, more importantly though she has the victory to move her closer to a title fight.
Leaving the ring with her corner crew, Lily gets a hug from Angelica before they walk up the aisle, the League of Mighty Women camp looks in a great place right now after Florence Pugh's win earlier, they have Anya Taylor-Joy tearing through the bantamweight division, 2022 is looking their break out year, maybe a title will come their way before the end of this year.
