Our reporter and his blonde companion enter Front Street to find a bit of a change in the normal Sunday tableau. Rufus, Avril, and the Man In The Hat still sit on stools in front of the center ring, but, in front of them sits a huge bag.
Rufus: "Smackey! Glad you're here. Take this with you. It's for you..."
Reporter: "What..."
Avril: "Well, your girlfriend told everyone who had complaints about her rankings to send them to you care of the Front Street Gym. Here's your mail..."
Reporter: "There CAN'T be..."
Rufus: "Every single piece of mail in that bag, which, as you can see, is bursting, is addressed to you."
Tess (laughing): "Is Cassie involved in this?"
Man In The Hat: "No. This is, believe it or not, legit. Plenty of fans hate your rankings. Take is as a badge of honor. Means you're doing your job."
Tess: "I didn't think people would really send LETTERS! No one sends LETTERS anymore..."
Avril: "Apparently, some unhappy FCBA fans do."
Man In The Hat: "And, speaking of 'unhappy', I'd steer clear of K-Stew at Bazz today. She's a little sore about your comments..."
Tess: "I stand by them."
Man In The Hat: "And, you should. But, let me tell you where we are with K-Stew right now. Now, Tess, you've been around here long enough to know how Front Street operates and how I book. I build a fighter to a certain point. And, when she reaches that point, meaning the title picture, what do I do next?"
Tess: "You look for a fight or two against some tough opponents that could vault her to the title shot."
Man In The Hat: "Correct. Perry was primed for a shot when we fought Theron. Katy won and got the shot at Vonnie. Neve had worked her way into the conversation and then we fought Glau. Neve won and got the shot. Torv beat Refa'eli and Theron back to back to set up hers. Brit beat Simpson and Fishel. This is the way we try to get our girls shots at the gold. We build the fighter up, get her into the picture, then look for a couple of fights against top opponents to create the push for the title shot. And, of course, K-Stew is now built up into position for a shot..."
Tess: "But, you aren't going to push for one because Cassie has the belts."
Man In The Hat: "Correct. Front Street has never fought Cassie Scerbo. And, Front Street is never GOING to fight Cassie Scerbo. I am not ever going to spend time in the video room trying to find ways to beat Cassie. I am going to spend time there helping Cassie WIN. Not that she NEEDS much help, mind. But, still. So. As long as Cassie has the belts, we're in a holding pattern at flyweight. Now, all four girls are different. We're looking to break Graham out. We're looking to get Meester into the picture. We're still developing Levy. So, they aren't affected as much. But, for Kristen, everything's on hold. Does that mean we wouldn't take a fight against a top contender if it came? It does not. But, it does mean we aren't looking for that final push. Because, we aren't fighting Cassie."
Reporter: "You mentioned Katy a minute ago. Vonnie's not happy about her taking the fight with Winstead..."
Man In The Hat: "Let me make this clear. I have no idea what went on between Vonnie and Mary. None. Here's what I do know. We were given an opportunity to fight a great fighter in Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and we were not going to turn that down. Because, Katy IS in position to push for a title shot, and a win over Winnie might just get her there. As for Vonnie, two things. One, she can always get a fight here, because this stable has the utmost respect for her. If one fighter isn't available, I'll make another one available, and that's a promise I'm makin' on the record right now. And, two, here's why. Yvonne is one of the girls that carries the banner around here. And, that's a good thing. Because, she's EXACTLY the kind of girl we need doing that. She's a great fighter, she's drop dead gorgeous, and she's all class. People have talked about her taking Theron's mantle. Well, that won't happen, because there won't ever be another. BUT. Vonnie's the same type of girl. Great fighter. Drop dead gorgeous. All class. Again, you NEED that kind of girl carrying the banner. Because, she puts butts in seats. And, that's what I've got to say about that."
Tess: "What do you think of Danes fighting Holt for the title?"
Man In The Hat: "I think Danes has earned the right to fight anyone she wants. She's the champ and she's a Hall of Famer. That being said, Front Street is never defendin' against a girl who's lost two in a row. But. That's OUR preference. It doesn't make us right, and it doesn't make Hawk or Claire wrong. Claire's another girl who carries banners around here. And, she's earned that right, too. Now, get to church. Baseball at Bazz today. And, Tess?"
Tess: "Yes, Wiz?"
Man In The Hat: "Give K-Stew some space today. She's a good kid. One of the brightest and most talented I've got. She's not going to get into a feud with a member of the media. But. She's a little sore right now."
Tess (smiling): "But, I'm doing my job, right?"
Man In The Hat: "Yes, indeed, you are. See you at Bazz."
Rufus: "Smackey! Glad you're here. Take this with you. It's for you..."
