Cat Bell vs Cameron Diaz
Lightweight title unification bout
Posted by simguy on 1/26/2002, 10:16 am
(Thanks to FightFan for this repost)
Before: Diaz making her play - total domination within her grasp as Cat Bell represents little more than 'mop up' in Cameron's grand scheme. Oddsmakers making Diaz a slight favourite - she's got the movement, the handspeed and unorthodox technique, but Cat's rock solid, better balanced, heavier handed, and brunette has a knack of taking finesse boxers out of their gameplans. Diaz in gold spangly Charlie's Angels bra style bikini, Bell in dark tinted leopard print push up bikini.
During R1,2: Tactical rounds, Bell taking the first, Diaz the second as the girls try to establish their games. Bell jabbing with Diaz, doesn't want to forfeit the punch - she's trying to mess with Cameron's rhythm and work the ribcage with batting hooks. Diaz using her legs, trying to open up the canvas, flurrying at Cat, then sidestepping - doesn't want to stand toe to toe. Both girls good defensively - Cat with high guard blocking, Diaz with her legs and angles.
R3: Cat gets into Cameron hard this round, lowering her head and bashing away to the ribcage - Bell's fists bouncing off hard torso, then brought back in tight to Cat's body as the brunette stays in position to punch. Diaz with arms outstretched, stumbling back into the ropes - she's hurt, looking to clinch and tie up. Bell won't have it, keeping her elbows and fists in tight to her body, using her head on Cam's chest to lever the blonde back, and devastating licks to the midriff have Diaz in a bad way. Cam takes a knee end of the first minute - Bell doesn't look back. Shove and slug beat down the rest of the way - Cat staying close, fighting through the clinches and snapping hard at Diaz' fat free midsection. Cameron winded and hurting at the bell - that's the kind of stuff she wanted to avoid.
R4: Bell upsetting Diaz rhythm with a strong jab - Cat's actually controlling the space between the fighters with her superior timing, setting up licking right hands to the tender ribcage. Bell body work has Diaz crumbling around the ring - Cam looking a little ragged, hands down and midway through, Cat turns over a cranking hook to catch Cam on the jaw as the blonde leans away - Diaz spluttering into the ropes with a bewildered look as Bell walks her down. Bell with right hand at her chest, moves in with a stamping right between Cameron's breasts, moves out with a cuffing hook along the blonde's jaw - Diaz roughed up and abused through 4 as Cat leaves her humming.
R5: Bell's got some things working. She's able to cut off the ring better than expected because her jab is dominant. She's able to drill Diaz between the breasts with a hard right hand, putting the blonde on her heels and breaking her down. And Cat is able to get close, rake the ribs and jaw with stroking hooks until Diaz can clinch head and arm for a break. Diaz on the defensive, getting off in spots, but Bell's the aggressor through 5.
R6: Better round for Cameron as she stands her ground more often, fights for Cat's respect. Diaz kneading Bell's jugs with rolling uppercuts on the inside - blonde's flashy hands have the brunette staring on occasion as Cam is able to get off, move the brunette back with bursts. But Bell won't be put off - she stays in contact with that ramrod right hand between the breasts, then turns the round around late with a clocking hook on the chops that has Diaz stepping in fence post holes. All Bell down the stretch as she reefs at Cameron's struggling belly - Diaz clinching up high on Bell and cringing up on her toes as Cat steals the round.
R7: Jab, hard right hand between the knockers - Bell dictating tempo, touching Cameron at will, and always in range to add on a batting hook to the rightside ribs. Cameron ragged midring - she fades to the ropes to set up rope-a-dope, covering up, bending at the waist, looking to clinch head and arm on Bell. Cat squaring up, uses a pawing jab to pry at Diaz' defense, doing most of the scoring with a stamping straight right hand, and always wary of Diaz' counterpunching ability off the ropes.
R8: Diaz lures Cat to the ropes, laying over on either side, looking to sweep counters at Bell in between the brunette's punching. Cat and mouse game develops - Diaz trying to catch Bell, Cat trying to work hard without giving up any openings. Down the stretch, Bell backs off, inviting Cameron back to midring and boxing match develops. Diaz working off Cat's left shoulder, scores a jamming right hand on the jaw around Bell's guard, pokes it in again and has Bell stumbling sideways. Diaz hounding Bell to the ropes, landing over and over again with a little chopping right hand at it's Cat clinching up around Diaz' sweaty waist at the break. Bell woozy and a little staggery en route to her corner - Diaz caught her.
R9: Diaz intent to follow up, eyes boring into Cat, searching for weakness. Bell looking sluggish, pushing the jab out, and midway through, Cameron times a chopping right hand counter over Bell's stick to lift the brunette's lead foot off the canvas. Diaz batting away with a sudden flurry, hounds Cat to the ropes and lathers up - swishing, slashing punches - rising lefts, hacking rights break Bell up and leave her momentarily helpless. Bell punished but gutting it out to the break - Diaz chests up and forces eye contact on the dazed brunette.
R10: Cameron Diaz out with a gorgeous opening flurry and DIAZ GOES DOWN! Catherine Bell hanging in the pocket, covering up and rolling with Diaz' flashy leather, picks her spot and fits a perfect counter left hook on the chin to sit the blonde down. Diaz up quickly, but blushing badly - what a costly knockdown! Hammer and tongs the rest of the way - Diaz needs the knockout - Bell happy to have the blonde standing and slugging - crowd roaring in support of both girls. Cat just brick-mitting her way into Diaz' ribs, dipping side to side, coming up into the blonde with short, brutal strokes - Diaz wider, slashing her punches, snarling as she gives ground and lashes away at the brunette. Furious exchange spills into the ropes - Cameron giving as good as she's getting, but it's HER butt in the strands - Bell clearly looks like the stronger, dominant fighter at the finish. Comes back UD10 by wide margin for the winner and unified lightweight champ - Catherine 'Cat' Bell!
After: Diaz ashen faced, outboxed, outslugged, dropped twice in a classic thorough beating from Cat Bell. Bell giving Cameron a hug in postfight - brunette doesn't hold grudges for the most part and she knows her fists answered all of Cameron's questions. "You know, she was as we expected," says Cat matter of factly, "She's quick, but she didn't like the ribwork I was doing, and I just kept shooting the right hand to her chest, keeping her in range all night long. She started catching me late, but there was a lot of arm punching on the follow up. I never thought she could really hurt me." As for the dazzling collapse of Charlize, Cat comments, "Yeah, that was a shocker, but as I've said, Theron's been showing signs that she's shot and I think Jeri just exposed that very clearly. I know Charlize wants another 'tune up' - although if it's anything like that one, there's not going to be much left of her - and then we're looking at a date in the near future. As far as I know it's still on, but yes, I want to see Theron earn the shot - I'm not just going to give it to her on name recognition. I need to know that Charlize Theron can still defend herself - I won't let promoters book me into a dangerous mismatch just for the sake of ratings. If she can't beat Halle Berry, it would be a mistake for Charlize to get in the ring with me too soon."

Cat Bell vs Ashley Judd
Posted by simguy on 5/11/2002, 7:24 am
(Thanks to FightFanfor this repost)
Before: Mutual admiration society in pre-fight: both women very complimentary and respectful to each other while confidently predicting victory for themselves. Judd on the bubble - she's verging on a slump and can't afford to lose any more ground. Bell in a good position, taking a credible optional fight helps her deflect mounting criticism that she's afraid to face Shannon Elizabeth once again. Cat in electric blue bikini, Ashley in red hipster bikini, twist tie top.
During R1: Bell dictating early, working out of the old Oscar stance, hands up high, jabbing to Judd's forehead, keeping the fight in the center of the ring. Final minute, Ashley times the stick, slipping to the right underneath Cat's jab and clipping in that devastating counter hook - Bell put immediately wobbly butt as Judd takes over. Ashley stepping in close, thumping her hook off Cat's chest and crowding in on follow through, drives Bell to the ropes, then digs in - big n' beefy to either side as Bell swoons in trouble. Judd steals the round, sends Cat woozy to her stool.
R2: Judd mopping up - a punishing jab in the shoulder and chest drives Cat backwards - Ashley able to have a series of good moments working her girl over at the ropes. Brutal, methodical stuff - Ash just standing CAt up and breaking her down in the ribs and waist, shoulder-propping her back, keeping the heat on. Cat cringing from hard touches, gloves at her temples - she clips the odd little counter swat in close but can't back Ashley off.
R3: Judd relentless - jabbing effectively to steer Cat to the ropes, then stepping in close off either shoulder to smash away at the resistance. Ashley not wild or overly busy, but her punches are sudden and hurtful - Cat buckling or twinging whenever Judd digs in behind the elbow or gets up underneath. Judd also clever with her hands, often doubling up the hook, catching Cat by surprise at close range. Final component is the heartbreaking jug punching Judd's doing - occasionally tying up Cat's right arm to club free right mitts across those glorious orbs. At the bell, Cat all banged up, shut out and punished through 3.
R4: Cue comeback - shutout Cat Bell. Cat gets the jab going again, stepping back to walk Judd into the counter hook - simple routine seems to have Ashley flustered midring. Judd trying to walk straight in - Cat's gobbling her up with her left hand and good footwork, rejecting Ashley's advances time and again.
R5: Classy exhibition midring as both girls stand relatively flat footed, trying to create openings with the jab, then stepping in with hooks and short right hands. Girls taking turns backing one another up, both doing a nice job of defending upstairs - any money being made is getting earned in respective bellies. Final minute, Judd wants it more - she bangs up the middle with straight rights and left hooks, forcing Cat to the ropes and digging hard at her side to the bell.
R6: Girls circling slowly, feathering each other with rangefinding jabs. Cat finally pulls the trigger on a pedestrian one-two - Judd automatically slipping the right, coming back a SPLATTERING hook on the teeth and CAT IS HURT! Bell stepping in fence post holes, staggering to the ropes as Judd walks her down. Ashley ramming a stabilizing jab into the chest, then PLOWING home the right hand - Bell getting clobbered, rocking back, then stooping forward with gloves at her temples, face wracked in pain. Judd propping with the left elbow, then getting her hips into wicked hooks under the elbow, folding Cat forward with a hurting groan. Elbow prop, then back in underneath, followed by a cudgelling right uppercut and a left hook around the wrist that spills Cat sideways to the corner! Judd stepping with, jamming in the straight right and another MONSTER left hook on the eye and BELL goes down! Cat battered to a seat in the corner - she trembly, trying to push herself off her hip but she CAN'T! KO6 Ashley Judd!
After: Bell given the numb-and-tinglies by a hard punching Ashley and it ain't over: Icy eyed Judd pulls a boozy Bell off her stool for a calculating walk of shame - Bell lolling, protesting mindlessly as Ashley guides her around the ring with an arm about the waist. Humiliation in stark contrast to the courtesy before the fight - Judd tells the press, "I felt I had to announce my arrival in no uncertain terms to Cat. I have the utmost respect for Bell, I really do, but I needed to show her and the fans that I'm here to take territory, not just visit. This fight was about pushing Cat to the sidelines, making sure she understands our relationship. I think we're on the same page now."

Cat Bell vs Ch Halle Berry title bout
(Unified Lightweight Title)
Posted by simguy on 6/8/2002, 8:13 am
(Thanks to FightFan for this repost)
Before: Monster rematch suits both women fine, but Berry firing the hard shots in prefight. "Bell wanted no part of Elizabeth, we all know that," says the champ, "it was up to me and my speed to take care of that business. Then she thinks: 'Halle's got the belt, now it's safe to go back in.' So here she is, looking to cherry pick, but baby, it's just not gonna happen! People think you handled me in our first match. That's fine. I just want my props when I slap you out and wave the belt in your shiny, swollen, punch-happy face." Bell taking the high road - for now, "Look, all I see is an improved fighter. A champion. Halle's come a long way and I'm looking forward to fighting her. I see a ribcage I can go to, a chin I can test, but I'm not taking anything for granted. We've done our homework on Halle and I'm ready to go." Special commentator Ashley Judd understandably miffed at ringside, "It's a title bout in name only," grumbles the brunette, "I stop both these girls inside of 6 rounds." Halle in gold bikini, Bell in dark tinted leopard print, bra style bikini.
During R1: Bell advancing behind a jarring jab to the forehead, Halle getting leggy, staying well outside, but giving up a lot of canvas. Berry avoids the shutout with some late, darting lefts and rights low to the ribcage on either side - Halle just stroking her mitts along Cat's body and pivoting out of danger - tactical first goes to Cat.
R2: Cat advancing early, cutting off the ring, establishing the jab first and foremost. Halle changing directions, hands low, but she's well outside, just getting her timing and range. Fight breaks out at the midway point. Berry turns to walk away right, then jumps in suddenly with a sneaky lead right on the chin - Bell caught cold, front foot comes off the canvas - she's hurt! Halle flashing a slashing combination to the breasts shakes Cat up and she caps the flurry with a clean hook on the chops to send Bell reeling to the ropes. Bell all shaken up, eyes glassy - Berry jumps in a hard right hand to the pit of the stomach, bodying up on follow through, then stepping to the right to clout the left hook hard across the mouth - Cat's just taking, feet wide apart, butt in the ropes - she's helpless! Vicious combination punching from Halle as she puts it to Cat with fight-winning intentions. Bell's head a-bobbling, body listing side to side in free-fall as the blows add up, but somehow, she makes it to the bell. Berry bounding away in celebration - Bell busted up, woozy, gets guidance to her stool.
R3: A grinning, playful Halle Berry takes it to the staggering challenger early. Berry with her hands low, stooping to bat at Cat's belly with the back of her left hand - shoulder-feinting Cat, then slapping her face - coming in close, spinning off Cat's body and swiping an insolent left mitt across those bulging breasts. Cat just getting turned, picked over, but at the midway point, girls trade hooks in the belly, hooks on the chin and BERRY GOES DOWN! Halle shocked and dropped straight to her butt and hands - she's up quick, but the cocky smile is gone. Berry back on her bicycle, dancing to her left, keeping Bell occupied with the jab, but Cat's stalking, looking rejuvenated through 3 tempestuous rounds.
R4: Cat Bell bangs body. Halle still moving well, but Cat's hemming her in with economical footwork, jabbing the champ to the corners, then batting away with shivering lefts and rights to the waist, forcing the fight's first clinches from Berry. Final moments see Berry on the run, hands low, lips pursed to suck in air - Bell walking her girl down with hard eyes at the break.
R5: Halle won't punk! Cat made a statement last round - Halle digs down and ups the tempo in response. Bell stepping forward, but forced to cover up as Berry flurries, swatting and cuffing upstairs, getting blocked, but always biting home a sharp hook or right hand on the chin or lower right side to put wince on Bell's face. Cat's output dropping - she can get into range, but she's getting beaten to punches and outworked. Berry getting off, then walking away to choose her next battleground - this is the kind of stuff that humbled Elizabeth.
R6: Girls get to prepping each other with shoving jabs in the chest, then stepping in with clanging hooks on the jaw and BERRY GETS HURT! Halle stepping in fence post holes - eyes a-glaze - hands extended. Bell patient, loads up and BASHES a gutwrenching right to the left flank, drawing a boozy shout of hurt from the champ. Halle drooping forward to clinch - Cat stacks her up with the left shoulder, then digs that murderous right hand up into the sternum - Berry mute with punishment as her butt scoots back, leaving her badly overextended. Bell crowds her girl, reaching under Halle's arms, walking her in a semicircle, then shouldering her off and CLOCKING home a whistling right cross! Halle out on her feet, staggers sideways, picking up momentum until she crashes into the ropes. ON COMES CAT BELL! Now the fists open up - bludgeoning rain of leather smashes down upon Halle's glistening shoulders and beautiful face and the REF JUMPS IN! It's OVER - Cat Bell rips the belts away from a stunned and broken Halle Berry KO6!
After: Berry swaying in the ref's arms, dimly staring over the man's shoulder at Cat's strutting celebration in the ring. Bell surprisingly emotional with the triumph, wiping away tears, kissing cheeks - good to see her release now and again. "Halle will never know how badly she had me hurt in the second," admits Cat, still wearing the shine of that beating, "but that's the difference between champions and, well, losers. I hate to say it, but it just feels right taking things away from Halle. I just don't think she's got what it takes to threaten me." Top it off, Cat confronts a slapped-up Berry in her corner, proudly displaying the belts over both shoulders, forcing eye contact as Halle demures. Yep - play it cool in pre-fight, heap it on in the aftermath - you gotta love Ms. Cat Bell.

Ch Cat Bell vs Catherine Zeta Jones title bout
(Unified Lightweight Title)
Posted by simguy on 6/15/2002, 8:59 am
(Thanks to FightFan for this repost)
Before: All brunette superfight comes together in a thunderclap as Bell names Zeta Jones job number one. "She's proven herself," says Cat, "I think Theron looked a little sluggish against her, but the Jenny O'Dell fight really made me look at Catherine as a legitimate threat for the first time." Jones less than charitable when it comes to the champ: "I'm going to expose Bell the same way I did Charlize. They're taller than most lightweights - that's it. Frankly, I don't expect the level of competition to be as high. I think Bell is more durable than Charlize at this stage of her career, but she's not got the class it takes to share a ring with me." Rumours abound that the two arch nemeses Theron and Bell have shared several telephone conversations in the weeks leading up to this fight - rumours denied by TE spokespeople if not Bell herself. Zeta J in red bikini, Cat Bell in electric blue.
During R1,2: Tactical, high quality rounds with very similar results. Jones pressing early, right hand at her cheek, left crooked at her side - she's parrying the jab, trying to roll with Bell's right hand and slip inside to hook stomach. Cat with right at her cheek, left hand shooting hard up the middle takes over after the first minute, establishes control of the center of the ring. Bell boxing beautifully, using her length, keeping Jones outside just the way they drew it up in the gym.
R3: Jones issuing her own jab, thumping it between Bell's breasts, then jumping in to clip her hook to the chin. Cat getting caught, backed up - Jones able to snap off combinations in close, step around Bell's left shoulder and keep the big brunette from setting her feet. Midway through - Jones fitting tight punches onto Bell's jaw, fighting off Cat's chest - a clanging hook buckles Bell's knees and puts her back to the ropes. Final minute - Jones dives in behind a scorching right, blasting Bell's head back and the champ goes wobbly butt! Cat Bell swooning on locked legs, reaching to clinch but Jones won't have it. Catherine Zeta Jones POUNDS away with chopping strokes, working inside Bell's broad shoulders, swabbing those bulging jugs, tagging that chin, squirming and ducking under the taller girl's grasping limbs. At the bell, Jones nails Cat with a series of sweet little hooks on the teeth in close - Zeta J just twisting her torso, laying in with Bell after each slamming connect as the big girl sags limp against the ropes.
R4: Bell guts up - gets back to working the jab, fading back whenever Jones coils to load up a hook, stepping to the left to force adjustments on the shorter woman. Middle minute - Jones able to jab her way in close, fighting off Bell's chest, working with scrubbing action to the belly, but Cat's not discouraged. Bell laying in, tightening up her strokes, getting beefy spank out of Jones' waist as the brunettes lick it up mouth on shoulder.
R5: Bell got some respect last round - Zeta Jones hesitant on the outside, ranging more than usual from side to side, looking to dart inside the jab. Cat using distance exquisitely, content to stand off and pick away, and she's fade-stepping a little as Jones commits in, looking to pick the shorter woman up with the counter right uppercut. Shutout Bell as Jones can't find her range this round.
R6: Shoe's on the other foot. Jones able to get inside the jab, hook the tits or chin, then cuddle up before Bell can get off. Cat walked back, Jones holding her for breaks - it's effective punch n' clutch from a crafty veteran. Jones palming the hips, pushing off Bell's stomach, getting low to shoulder the taller girl around - slick, patient stuff from the challenger this round - Bell not active enough and hears it in her corner.
R7: Zeta Jones with some nice slip-moves inside, sudden jerking hooks to the solar plexus - has Bell stepping out to take deep breaths and regroup early. Midway through, Jones slips, dips inside and EATS a brilliant counter right uppercut - punch Bell's been sitting on all night and it has Jones toppling forward in trouble! Bell stepping back to clout and clang away with wide lefts and rights under the chin of her stumbling foe - Jones stomping forward wobbly butt as her mouthpiece gets swatted clear of teeth. Catherine finally clinching and tackling her girl to the ropes - messy holding and hitting gives way to a nice recovery for Jones as she works off her jab, punishing that left tit of Bell's as Cat reaches with her own stick in response.
R8: Bell the boss with three crashing right hands in the first minute - nailing Jones flush on the side of the head and finally forcing her to back away all tingly. Cat stalking, getting her jab on the retreating woman - the shoulder, the top of the head, anything available as Jones shies away around the ring. Demonstrative round for Bell - Zeta Jones on the run, just looking to avoid serious exchanges.
R9: Banging shutout Cat Bell - Zeta Jones looking harried, beaten down for the first time in the fight. Jones legs starting to fail - she can't keep turning Bell and when she tries to punch Cat off her, Bell's hammering her with crashing right crosses and that vicious, curling uppercut. Zeta Jones pulling all her tricks - block and roll, bump and shoot - Bell's straight hard punching and fine footwork just too good. Down the stretch, Jones sits in the ropes, bending at the waist - Bell palming the girl's sweaty forehead with the right hand and REEFING at the waist with monster left hooks! Big, booming swings - Cat getting her long lean body in behind withering cranks - Jones screaming as she struggles to keep her feet. At the bell - Catherine Zeta Jones with tears streaming down her cheek, crippled in the strands as a smoldering Cat Bell takes a moment to drink in the sight.
R10: Jones with some desultory jabs early, retreating, finally hemmed into a corner and it's all Cat Bell the rest of the way. Cat punishing Jones with piledriver jabs - sickeningly loud blasts off Jones skull and chest have her frozen, right hands starting to plow past her weak left mitt have her tilting forward in stupor. Bell landing hard, then palming the shoulders, propping her girl, lifting in that heartless hook up underneath, but never letting Jones fall. Bad beating has Catherine Zeta J all dressed up and ready to go - but she makes it to the bell - eyes half closed, legs unsteady as Cat presses her flat against the strands. Comes back UD10 Cat Bell.
After: Even fight through 6 - bigger, stronger Bell able to assert herself in closing out the last four rounds and by the end - she's well on her way to beating Jones to a pulp. Zeta Jones with swollen, downcast eyes, punished midsection, uncertain legs - she hasn't taken a sustained beating like this in a long time. "Absolutely not," says Cat Bell when asked if she carried a devastated Zeta Jones to the finish line, "She hung in and took her beating - I'll give her that. But I don't want to hear any more nonsense out of Catherine Zeta Jones. That last four rounds clearly separates us in my mind. I'm better than she is - end of story." Ashen faced BSE executives ringside getting used to seeing Cat Bell pounding her way past expensive corporate assets - champ's been a one-woman wrecking crew against BSE lightweights.

Cat Bell vs Mira Sorvino
Posted by simguy on 8/30/2002, 6:40 am
(Thanks to FightFan for this repost)
Before: "I think it's going to be important to stay mentally strong," says Mira in prefight, "I'm in with the best fighter in boxing, I just have to stay composed, work my gameplan, use my size and good things will happen. I know this: if I can stroke her chin with this (holds up right duke) she won't be the same fighter." Bell in dark tinted leopard print push up style bikini, Sorvino in chocolate push up and tan suede panties, low ponytail.
During R1: Sorvino: strong orthodox stance, trading stiff stick with Cat through much of the round. Bell surprised at the length and power on Mira's jab - blonde sets and spears pretty effectively. Bell working underneath late with wide right hands on the abdomen, coming up top with the hook to take the round on well placed blows to the bell. R2: Mira undaunted, coming forward behind the double jab, banging back Cat's face, then surprising her with the follow up poke - Bell giving ground. Cat with the right hand at her cheek, trying to weave in close and dig hooks to the belly - Mira with her dukes up, elbows in, takes the shots well, answers back sharp with clubbing hooks up top. Scrappy Sorvino persistence has Bell in retreat, coughing up points in the second.
R3: Sorvino doing nice things with a basic, but crunching jab - Bell forced to compensate, step out to regroup. Mira walking Cat down, forcing battle - girls flat footed, setting and banging away with harsh hooks to body and guard up top - nice batting exchanges as ribcages get glossy with leather. Down the stretch, girls tucked into hooking postures - Mira clips the angle, half uppercutting the chin and BELL GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Cat straightening up hurt, eyes in shock, nearly pitches sideways, rights herself to stumble chest first into the ropes. Sorvino swooping on with a monster overhand right, barely blocked and blonde piles on with a bludgeoning series of wide swinging lefts and rights as Bell covers up. Mira pumped, drinking in the sight - Cat in shock, all tremble-bodied.
R4: Shutout Cat Bell. Nice recovery from a hard shot - Bell finally adding in a little lateral movement, forcing Sorvino to move her feet. Cat not all that active, but placing firm shots in precise combinations, then swivelling to her left to avoid receipts. Picturesque combo midway through: right hand on the hip, biting hook in the belly, jerking left uppercut on the chin leaves Sorvino blinking as Bell pivots away.
R5: Sorvino staying composed - knows she let a dangerous woman off the hook, gets right back to the business of breaking Cat down. Slamming jab from Sorvino positions Cat for level right crosses on the chin - brunette taking a solid shot this round as Mira gets good extension. Sorvino closing distance with a stuffing right hand to the pit of the belly, then bodying up - blonde doing a good job of using her size and muscling Bell off balance. Girls trading late - flat footed, right hands at cheeks, trading compact lefts - Mira's getting the better of the toe to toe.
R6: Cat circling left around her jab - Sorvino not as effective when Bell doesn't use the front door. Methodical brunette - touch her with the jab, weave in to hook the body, leave a forget-me-not on the chin on the way out.
R7: Shutout Cat Bell. Cat asserting herself at last - energy level's up, movement sharp, punching crisp and baseball bat loud against Sorvino's body. Bell placing her shots economically - body, body, chin - Sorvino sopping it up, unable to get off. Sorvino looking glum at the bell: nothing worked that round. Cat tells her corner during the break, "she's tipping the jab," raising her left elbow to show how Mira's telegraphing.
R8: Cat taking Mira apart. Bell reading Mira's jab like a book now - slipping and countering with clanging right hands over top, or moving away to leave Sorvino out over her feet. Bell keeping the same steady rhythm, not anxious, just getting good leverage, mixing it up body and head, turning Mira around the ring. Sorvino back to her corner lumped up, fighting despair through 8.
R9: Cat's done the groundwork, now she steps it up. Bell going right at Sorvino, backing the blonde up with shivering right/lefts on the waist, always finishing up with a jab-poke on the mouth. Sorvino back to the ropes, eyes wide as she tries to punch her way out of the jam. Bell with the right tight to her cheek - dips in, jerks her torso into three pumping hooks to brisket - Sorvino open mouthed in agony as she juts forward - Bell with the classic bobbing left uppercut on the chin drops blonde to all fours. Kodak moment knockdown - Sorvino breathless, shook up, she beats the count like a trooper, but she's shabby. Bell mopping up the rest of the way - shoving and slugging big blonde at the ropes - Sorvino shipping shots at the bell.
R10: Cold fury of Cat Bell. Bell with humming lead right hands on the mouth, puts Sorvino wobbly butt - blonde's legs gone as she topples aimlessly around the ring. Bell jabbing her girl to the ropes, spends the second minute dipping and ripping to body - heartless, ruthless pursuit of paunch as she gets her hips and shoulders behind the waist-work. Sorvino sobbing aloud, dazed, not fighting back - Bell starts waving the ref in to stop this thing but he won't do it. Cat keeps pouring it on, propping Sorvino with the left, leaning in on right hands to the chin - devastating blows draping the helpless blonde sideways over the top rope - she wilts back into position for more, gloves at her stomach. Mira won't go down - Ref won't act - Bell grits her teeth and keeps punching, beating a defenceless Sorvino ragged as the crowd roars it's approval. FINALLY the official steps in, Sorvino puddling in the man's arms - Bell outraged and heaping abuse on the man for his handling of a dangerous finale. TKO10 Cat Bell.
After: Bell marked up, showing how competitive Mira was early in this fight - Cat still worked up in post fight, "I could have killed Mira tonight, she didn't deserve that kind of beating," says Bell, "what the hell was that guy thinking? She was out, helpless, she was screaming from my body shots and the ref's right THERE, I mean, what's it supposed to take? I really hope Mira sticks with it - she showed me plenty in this fight that we really weren't expecting and I had to find that extra gear to outclass her - exactly what I needed. I just hope she'll be allright." Days later, Sorvino sees it somewhat differently, "I'd heard through the grapevine that TE fighters like to pour on, but I still believed Cat Bell was different, you know, a real sports woman. I know what to expect now; I didn't come in hungry enough. With Cat Bell, it's eat or be eaten. I hope she had fun, I really do, because if I ever get her hurt again, I'm finishing what I start the next time."

Cat Bell vs Jeri Ryan Posted by simguy on 10/26/2002, 7:59 am
(Thanks to FightFan) Before: Special commentator Debbe Dunning sizes 'em up: "To me, this is such a close fight. Breaking it down, I'd have to say Jeri's more durable - I was life and death with her before beating her and I don't think there's a tougher blonde in boxing. Cat isn't taking the shot she did even 5 years ago - of all us more mature gals, she's been in the most wars and I'd say it's taking a toll. Bell does have the big fight experience however and if anyone can find a way to neutralize Jeri's right hand, it's Cat. My pick? It's going to be a close, hard fought struggle and I think Cat wins that kind of fight. I KNOW Ryan can knock her out, but I think Bell's too smart for her. Bell in 10, but I'm hoping Jeri catches her!" Cat in electric blue bikini, Jeri in red bikini - breathtaking stare down as Ryan invades Cat's personal space, looks her over with disdain.
During R1: Ryan starting slow, just trying to find her rhythm, Cat takes the initiative. Bell with hands up, palms out, drilling the jab to the middle of Jeri's forehead, sliding to the left. Ryan with the right at her chin, left slung low, turning midring, looking to edge in close. Tactical shutout for Bell as she establishes her range, timing with the left hand.
R2: Jeri moving forward, jabbing Cat to the center of the chest, moving her back and snapping off short right hands that are turning the brunette's head. Cat stepping out, circling away, using the ring, but Jeri's relentless, walking her girl down. Girls get to hooking one another's jugs, then turning on right hands - Ryan getting the better of these concussive trades, Bell backing away. Set piece, flat footed battles being fought - Jeri's getting the better of the exchanges, moving into ground vacated by Cat as Bell retreats.
R3: They're fighting Jeri's fight. Ryan moving well, cutting off the ring, forcing Cat to trade, beating the brunette up in shattering exchanges then walking her down. Ryan's been landing right hands up the middle - Cat tightens up her guard, bringing her hands closer to her face, moving her head better to roll with the cross. Jeri putting punches together, hook/right hands up top, then dropping down to hook at ribs or tits with savage snap - Bell grunting on impact and backing away. Ryan showing she's a two handed fighter - Cat's defending the short right well, but getting eaten up by hooks through 3.
R4: Bell makes changes. She's getting the jab out first, landing it hard: that's HER punch. She's also victimizing Ryan's low left, repeatedly dropping in the right over top, bouncing her fist off Jeri's rock solid jaw time and again. Ryan backing up more this round, loading up her right but rarely pulling the trigger - brunette able to outwork blonde to draw even.
R5: Bell continues to add components. She's got Jeri on her heels from one-twos up top, now she goes to the waistline with stroking glee, licking rights and lefts against the ribs and stomach. Jeri turns her shoulders to the right, hunches forward to protect - Cat able to step to the right and sling hooks into the overhanging bulge of Ryan's jugs with delicious spank. Ryan beaten to the ropes, huddled up nearly double as Cat unleashes bashing combinations to the bell.
R6: Jeri reacting, getting punished, but standing stubborn. Cat pounding right hands against Ryan's available left eye. Brunette's hook upstairs is blocked by Jeri's high right hand, but Cat's throwing it anyway to keep Ryan on the defensive. Bell palming shoulders big-girl style, moving Ryan back, ducking to come in low with a swinging right hand to the breadbasket, straightening to pull that wide left hook across Jeri's swollen cleavage. Ryan sullen in retreat, stiffens as her back touches the ropes and turns on whistling right hands as fight heats up down the stretch. Girls pounding away toe to toe, Bell standing right there, trying to use Jeri up as jugs and chin are clobbered all around. Bitter slugging continues after the bell - Ryan's temper flaring as she wants Cat off her.
R7: Bell slamming that jab between the eyes, stepping out - Jeri steps in and EATS that short right counter on the jaw. Ryan's legs buckle - she topples forward slightly - Cat smart to the right, hooking tits, hooking tits, setting down on another jaw-breaker right hand to get Jeri tilting backwards. Ryan not effective in reverse, right hand crossed against her chest, left hand at her stomach - Cat's walking her down behind zesty criss-cross punches and battering the blonde to the ropes. All Cat Bell: she's putting it all together, lanky strokes to the body setting up whalloping cuffs to either ear, then rigid uppercuts as Jeri folds forward in the earmuff guard. Ryan going sullen with punishment, not punching back - she's stubbornly standing in, refusing to go down but soaking up a thumping. Bell takes what she wants and down the stretch - a stunning right uppercut sits Ryan dazed in the ropes, brunette goes to jug with pumping malice from both fists, pounding Jeri's proud chest as woozy blonde stares in groggy protest. Bell hauled back at the break - Jeri humming with punishment, wobbly butt to her corner.
R8: Ryan all shiny, left eye closing, but comes out determined to back Cat up early. Bell cagey in retreat, absorbing Jeri's momentum with tactical clinches, bogging the blonde down, getting the referee's breaks. End of the first minute, Cat's spearing Jeri on the way in again with the jab, keeping Ryan at arm's length, then dropping crisp right hands over Ryan's low left. Ryan really getting clocked now - she's taking Cat's hardest right hands on her chin, jerking a quarter turn to her right, then squaring up again for the next blow. Bell banging her girl in stages to the ropes, then settles in for the systematic beat down. Ugly to watch - Cat's fists hammering at Jeri's vitals downstairs, crippling the blonde, then cashing in on her jaw with crisp, curling combinations, then maliciously clouting the unprotected jugs as Jeri wilts defenceless in the strands. Jeri defiant at the bell, beaten stupid, but proud, hand on the top rope as she picks up her chin.
R9: Shutout Cat Bell. Cat methodically breaking Jeri down, taking the blonde's heart. Bell not fancy with her feet, but economical, stepping to the right or left, getting queasy angles for hooks and right hands and crushing leverage as she lands at will. Ryan in constant, shuffling, stubborn retreat, finally hits the ropes, dukes at her chest, face available. Another brutal siege as Bell sets up, dips to the right with her left hand stabilizing Jeri in the chest, then hammers three, four right hands to the blonde's stomach. Bell comes up the middle the right uppercut, then dips to the left to work the other flank. Ryan being shellacked, refusing to go down, occasionally palming Cat's shoulders lightly as the blows pound home. Cat standing in frank awe at the bell, shaking her head as Ryan wanders away woozy.
R10: Bell keeps ladling it out, Ryan keeps taking it. Bell just reaching with a left to stabilize then slamming in a short right cross, series of these blows drives Ryan to the ropes, blonde all slumping and hurt, hands at her chest as she wills herself to go on. Cat taking it all - the belly, ribs, tits and chin, palming and bodying on to avoid spending herself, just pounding away at Jeri. Ryan won't go - she's helpless, defenceless, but too proud to pool at Cat's feet - she lolls forward, hands on Cat's shoulders or around her waist, forcing the brunette to shove her back, deal with the weight. Round ends with Cat baring her teeth, pulling slinging right roundhouses over and over into Jeri's left ear as the blonde slumps to her right - ref jumps in at the bell, it's over. UD10 Cat Bell leaves Ryan in stupor.
After: Bell wanting to shake hands, but a shellshocked Jeri Ryan refuses, turning her back on Cat as her people bar the way. Dunning shaking her head, "that's SO Cat Bell. She didn't have to beat Jeri's jugs the way she did, all those little extras on the ropes Cat loves so much. She beats you and beats you then wants to be friends afterwards. At least Charlize takes you for a walk and you know where you stand. I feel bad for Jeri - she's got to be hurting. I expected more out of her tonight - Ryan looks shot to me." Touch and go fight through 4, then Cat earns separation with 4 shutout rounds over the remaining 6, disasterous power shots sprinkled throughout, earning that number 1 slot with a soul-searing beating of a very tough lightweight. "I knew if I could get my distance, I could land the right hand," says Cat afterwards. "There are very few lightweights who are stronger than me - Jeri could be one of them. I had to keep on her, out work and out execute her to win."

Ch. Cat Bell vs Jamie Luner title bout
(Unified Lightweight Title)
Posted by simguy on 11/17/2002, 3:25 pm
(Thanks to FightFan for this repost)
Before: The champ speaks: "Charlize Theron expects to get title fights on name recognition alone - always has. Fact is, I'd love to fight her - I think she's the best money for the least risk - but Jamie Luner is the more compelling bout for me based on merit. People don't know for sure that I can beat Jamie - that's a challenge for me. They know I can handle Charlize if I'm right. Luner's got a people's champ reputation which can really undermine a legitimate titlist like myself until she's dealt with. I don't feel I can call myself undisputed when Luner's out there beating up the likes of Jennifer Garner." Gutsy match up for TE, Luner as quick and athletic as an lightweight out there - Bell will need every intangible in her book to compete tonight. Jamie in black push up, and panties, hair back - Bell in dark tinted leopard print underwire bikini (bra style).
During R1: Cat trying to establish herself methodically - Luner catching the champ flat footed with high intensity attack from the get go. Luner attacking Bell's defense with feints, double-stabbing jabs, sharp steps to either side - Cat looks surprised to get hit, not seeing the punches, backing off with a spanked expression. Midway through, Luner slips inside the Bell jab, rings Cat up the counter hook on the chops. Bell staggered backwards - Luner pounces with a slashing overhand right on the face, rising left on the chin - Bell wide-eyed, unravelling to the ropes as she ships leather. Luner patient on follow up, eyes bright - she creeps forward, double taps that hook behind the elbow, jabs to step right, greases that right hand past Cat's guard to clock the jaw, finishes up with a showy hook square in the gut. Cat SOAKING it up - she's hurt, unresponsive, gloves at her temples as she tilts forward off the ropes. Bell shaken, boozy after classy, sustained work from challenger.
R2: Bell grim as she comes out dukes at her cheeks - wary. Luner nimble outside, turning either Bell flank, outjabbing her, outboxing mid ring. Where Bell is dutiful, trying to bank body shots, firm up her stick - Luner is electrifying - crowd constantly reacting to the redhead's flush, hard head shots and cozy rib work. Down the stretch, Luner weaves low to the outside of Bell's jab, rockets back with a thunderous right counter on the cheek - Bell wobbly butt, staring in shock. Luner twisting her body around into a gorgeous follow up hook in the breadbasket, spills Bell glassy-eyed to the ropes and PILES ON! Bell dazed, stooping forward behind her mitts, just gutting it out as once again a brazen challenger has her way to the break.
R3: Bell busted up, bleeding from the nose, left eye swelling - she stubbornly tries to get on track behind her jab. Luner tagged and rejected early, but she's hungry, intense, always circling back to menace Bell from a fresh angle. Midway through, Jamie slips inside the stick again, hooks the sternum, hooks the tits - Bell bunches up and takes a slashing right along her jaw which unhinges her knees. Cat clattering backwards, nailed as Jamie jumps in with overhand rights and rising lefts, stampeding her girl ramshackle to the ropes. ANOTHER bruising beat down - Cat just numb, shopworn, covering up and taking it - Luner baseball-batting the flanks, then palming, pushing to free up the uppercut through the middle. Jamie mixing it up nice, punishing those prize sacks of Cat's, hooking the waistline and rocking back Bell's head up out of her mitts with sickening frequency.
R4: Cat Bell keeps coming. Luner's not tired, but her best leather hasn't gotten champ off her feet - redhead tentative in the opening moments. Bell adjusting, punching with Jamie then shamelessly clinching - Bell taking this thing to the ropes in a writhing, lanky tangle. Cat roughing Luner up at the ropes, getting the left elbow up into Jamie's jaw, turning over a tight right hand inside, rubbing and scuffing with her head, following through with forearms and shoulders. Luner on her heels, smeared up against the ropes - she's gritting her teeth with effort but can't open up the ring. Bell with a smothering, grinding shutout, keeps punching after the break - no let up until ref physically pulls her off.
R5: Luner thinking more, cautious rather than attacking - Bell has the time to work her tactics to perfection. Cat tieing up on the inside, mauling Jamie until the break. Outside, Cat's outjabbing Luner, thumping chest and mouth to drive the redhead backwards. Cat able to hook the body - Luner pushing off, looking pained instead of slugging back - champ getting the little things she wasn't getting early on. Patient pressure from Bell, just wearing her girl down, moving her around the ring. Final moments, Bell stroking Jamie with a batting hook, backhand jab, suddenly unleashes a screaming right cross through the middle. Head snap Jamie, hands at her chest as she droops forward - Bell stepping back to give redhead room and LUNER GOES DOWN! Sudden monster shot on the chin - picture perfect placement and it's OVER! KO5 Cat Bell in spectacular fashion.
After: Jamie Luner distraught, sobbing with the loss - classy champ consoling, hugging the KO victim as she sits shaking on her stool. Bell beaten almost unrecognizable had to dig deep for this one. "She was outboxing me - pure and simple," admits a weary champ. "Not too many girls counter my jab - this girl took my jab apart tonight - I couldn't fight with her outside. With the punishment I was taking, I knew the ref might stop it if Jamie kept having moments - I knew I had to stop her, even though it was early." Resounding title defence a crusher for Jamie Luner - title shots don't come her way very often.

Thank you for alerting us to the broken link. I have gone back and re-linked the fight story under the Catherine Bell, Charlize Theron, and 2002 Lightweight Title. I have also added photos as well. Broken links is a headache and we always appreciate it when someone tells us it has happened. If you don't want to wait around for the repair job I would suggest first checking the other fighter's record and the yearly Index. (Mysteriously the link to the fight under the July 20, 2002 card remained intact, but this is not always the case.) If all else fails go NAVIGATOR BOX on the front page. You will likely have to hit the left-pointing error., Scroll down to FCBA FIGHT REPORTS for the year you want. This is where we place the files for linking. Call up the file and then in the search box enter the date (20 July 2002 in this case) and hit SEARCH. The file for that fight should then appear.; Click on it and read. Thank you for using the Archive and we will do our best to fix any problems you find. (You can post Broken Link Alerts under BLASTS FROM THE PAST if you would like) Archer 20 July 2002 Ch Catherine Bell vs Charlize Theron
