We kick off the sixth round of this years Diamond Boxing Tournament with a battle of toned blondes, England's Gemma Atkinson (0-5) will be hoping to finally break her duck in the event, she faces the American Charlotte Flair (2-3), who has had a mixed event to say the least, both put on their best bikinis as we are on Rio De Janeiro's Ipanema Beach.
As throughout the tournament both women got a chance to speak their mind on video before the bout, with a camera set up on the beach where they are to fight twenty four hours later, a towel marks their spot as the beach is quiet at the moment as it looks early in the morning.
First standing on the towel wearing a blue bikini top with blue denim shorts is Gemma, she places her hands on her hips looking annoyed to be doing this, she tells the camera "look what is there really to say, this tournament has been awful for me, now I get to fight a fake fighter, Charlotte is about as real as her tits, last I checked they are full of plastic, let me make this clear for Charlotte and f**king Lais (Ribeiro), I am not finishing this tournament looking up at the rest of the field!" Gemma storming off the beach as clearly right now she is done with the tournament and just wants to batter someone.
Charlotte meanwhile struts onto the towel wearing black shades to go along with her black bikini, after letting out a "woo!" To the camera, she says "this beach looks fit for a queen, the same way that Gemma's face might make a good footrest for me, see Gemma I am sick of you, seeing you get chance after chance to screw up because you once were a welterweight champion, if I had been given a chance when you were champion then you wouldn't have held the belt that long, instead you live off the past" taking her sunglasses off as she stares hard at the camera.
"See Gemma I am the Queen of any ring I step in, I dominate every room I am in with my presence, you will learn to bow down as so many women have, woo!" Adds Flair, she puts her sunglasses back on as she poses with her arms out at her side, head tilted back slightly as if wanting fans to bask in her glory before she leaves.
Fighting time, the ring posts have been set into the sand, the sand itself raked flat though that will quickly change, two sets of bleachers have been set up, the judges table has the water behind them, with a DJ belting out music where the fighters are to come past to head to the ring.
First up walking to the ring is Gemma with Oasis's famous "Wonderwall" playing, she has her coach Denise Lewis in a black string bikini behind her, Gemma wearing a baby blue bikini with matching gloves, hair tied into a ponytail as she looks in a serious mood, climbing into the ring to stand in her corner, Gemma taps her gloves together three times before starting to shadow box.
A "woo!" Rings out over the sound system, here comes Charlotte Flair to her famous WWE theme song, the Queen wearing a special silver silk robe with feathers around the collar as she struts to the ring, walking around it as if she owns the place, so much so that she orders the referee to lower the middle rope for her so she can step into the ring, once inside her coach removes her robe to reveal a silver bikini with blue trim, silver gloves as her hair is braided, she let's out another "Woo!" Before heading to her corner.
The referee soon enough waves the fighters to the center of the ring, eyes locked as they stare each other down, fists clenched as they look ready to go at it now, instead when told to touch gloves a few threats are exchanged, returning to their corners, the bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Meaty jabs being exchanged early as both are keeping their feet planted in the sand when they throw, moving around the center with Flair landing the more consistent punches, it's Gemma though who finishes the opening minute the stronger as she dips under a jab to move inside, thudding in body shots as she nearly headbutts her opponent on her chin.
Driving Charlotte to the outside part of the ring, Gemma is looking good in tight, Charlotte not landing with an real force, cuffing mainly the side of her opponent's head, needing to nudge back Gemma then land a one-two combo into her face, creating space but still with the ropes towards her back as they exchange.
An overhand left smacks Charlotte across her chin, opening her up to being driven back into her own corner, Gemma looks fired up as she has Charlotte shelling up, swinging through her hips with hooks, targeting upstairs and downstairs on Charlotte, the bell soon rings with Charlotte again having a slow start to a fight, she sits down on her stool getting to watch Gemma jog back to her own corner across the ring, Denise telling her to keep this up when Gemma sits on her own stool.
Round 2:
Charlotte needing to get into gear starts to land more double jabs, wanting to keep the range where she wants it, still Gemma is still slipping her way to the inside, testing the body of the wrestler out with short body shots, Charlotte biting her mouthpiece looking annoyed by the terrier like qualities of her opponent.
Second minute sees Flair catch Atkinson to the side of her head with a short right cross, nudging her back with her left, Charlotte uses the space between them to rifle in a stiff jab/right cross combo, she looks warmed up now as she knocks back Gemma to the outside.
Less then forty five seconds to go, Gemma misses with an overhand left, getting a straight onto her nose, blood is starting to trickle from the nostrils of Gemma, who covers up more tightly as Charlotte herds her around the ropes, Gemma only really landing single punches out her guard in response, at the end of the round Charlotte gives her trademark "Woo!" To the crowd, before the Flair strut as she returns to her corner, Gemma meanwhile sees blood on her left glove after wiping her nose, mouthing "bytch" as she sits on her stool.
Round 3:
Gemma clearly wants to try to out muscle her opponent, using her left shoulder to body up to Charlotte, swinging her right around as both fight in close range to start the round, Charlotte nudging off her opponent, slamming in a short left cross and then a straight into her forehead to knock her back a step.
Before Charlotte can get too comfortable, Gemma crouches under a jab to hammer in a right hook to her ribs, an overhand left comes over the top to the cheek of Flair, opening her up for more attacks up the middle as Gemma forces her onto the ropes, cracks of leather ring out as Gemma is really not holding back, Charlotte pulls her into a clinch to slow her down.
Broken up with Charlotte moving off the ropes, both women are landing hard shots as they open up more, Charlotte isn't letting Gemma in as easily, leading to some tough midrange exchanges, crowd roaring both women on as they trade, more blood flows from Atkinson's nose as she takes a double jab square onto it late in the round, at the end of the round Gemma gets cheered as she jogs to her corner, Charlotte shakes her head, her coach needing to cool her off as she looks ready to lose it, Charlotte nods at them after taking a deep breath.
Round 4:
Trading stiff jabs to start, Gemma is sending hers into the body of Charlotte, she is getting hit over the top though into her face, Charlotte steps back as Gemma swings in an overhand right, a straight instead lands on the nose of Atkinson, she hisses as her eyes shut for a moment, a left hook smacks around the ear of the English lass to send her stumbling two steps to her left.
Gemma doesn't look as comfortable now, punches starting to slice through her mitts to her face, blood dripping off her nose to her bust as Charlotte smacks her square, a right hook to the chin rocks Gemma's head as blood with some sweat goes flying, ANOTHER RIGHT HOOK SENDS GEMMA TUMBLING DOWN TO HER RIGHT SIDE!
Charlotte heads to the neutral corner to mostly boos, she cups her ears with a cocky smirk, 1...2...3... There's blood dripping from Atkinson's nose to the sand, 4...5...6.. Gemma is groaning as she blinks, 7...8... Still on her right side as she has barely moved, 9...10 it's over! Gemma is counted out!
Winner Charlotte Flair KO Round 4
After:
While Gemma isn't the force she once was, this is still an impressive knockout from Charlotte, who can't resist to rub in her victory, marching over to the beaten woman, Charlotte nudges with her right foot Gemma to her back, then presses it firmly onto her chest as she flexes her arms for the cameras.
Denise not the slightest bit happy about that, pushing Charlotte off her as the referee gets between them, crowd intrigued if they will get a fight between a former Olympian and a WWE star, Charlotte certainly looks up for it as she tosses her gloves to the sand, insults being exchanged between them, Charlotte's coach looks to calm the situation, herding their fighter back to their corner, Denise staring daggers at Charlotte as the blonde bombshell turns her back on her and raises her arms in the air.
Soon enough Gemma is helped over to her stool, nose is cleaned up and patched up, Gemma stares at her bare feet, a look of hopelessness as this was really the first fight in the tournament where she got blasted out quickly, the others she has really pushed her opponent's, has time past her by? Denise tells her to stop feeling sorry for herself as she stares intensely at her, pushing her head up so they lock eyes, Gemma nods to her corner that she knows she needs to buck her ideas up.
Helped from the ring, Gemma heads off the beach knowing she is battling for last place, something she probably didn't expect when she signed up for this event, her best hope for a victory should come against her final opponent of the tournament, facing the winless Lais Ribeiro at Madison Square Garden, can she at least end on a high note?
While Charlotte gets her right hand raised by the referee, she grabs her blood stained gloves and shows the cameras, telling them "call me fake all you want, this is how real I am" tossing them to her coach, Charlotte flexes her arms to show off her impressive physique, sending a message to the welterweight division that she is the real deal.
As Charlotte leaves the ring, while the tournament started slowly for her, she is currently at .500 with her record within it, can she finish on a positive note against Emma Corrin? For now she walks off the beach with her usual swagger.
