BEFORE:
American and South African Madelaine Petsch is looking to upset the record tonight in this next match-up. Can she put away the illustrious former Flyweight champion that is Lily Collins, or at least cause her enough trouble to make some noise for her own name?
To hear her tell it, yes she can.
“I’ll blow her off her f*cking feet,” Madelaine says with a cocky nod. We’re the same height but I’m packing a lot more power in these guns. Lily won’t know what hit her.”
Of course, Lily is seen smirking and rolling her eyes at the sound of that tall boast. “She and what record? She’s only won one fight in her entire career, and it was against someone called Vanessa Morgan. Do you know who that is? Cos’ I freakin’ don’t.”
Ladies square up at the podium and it’s a brunette versus redhead match-up for our second fight on tonight’s card. Madelaine is five years younger and definitely looks more well-built in terms of her bulk, whereas Lily looks lean and mean as always. They stare each other down but nothing else happens, thankfully, and both women are led back to their respective backstage areas.
Hours later, Madelaine is all geared up and ready to go in one corner of the ring, sporting a red loose blouse that’s tied off just below her chest, with white bikini strings visible underneath, similar bikini bottoms showing off her toned tummy. She’s in white gloves for tonight’s contest. Lily not giving her the time of day, striding up the ring steps with similar confidence before disrobing to reveal a black bikini and red gloves underneath.
Referee calls for the start of this contest and gets the nod from both corners. There’s the wave of the hand and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!
ROUND 1:
Lily goes to work immediately, aiming jabs at Maddy’s body, a right hand sailing in and under her guard… straight into her gut in the very first exchange of the evening - and we’re barely ten seconds in! Madeleine's face contorts in pain as the stiff blow catches her completely off guard… the redhead was busy protecting her face with both hands instead. She lets out a gruff UGHH as Lily buries another two gloves into her paunch before managing to scamper backwards in a hurry. The American actress ain’t getting away that easily, however, with Collins rushing in after her and mixing in more attacks high and low, playing with her prey as those combos hound and harass. Madelaine doesn’t know what hit her this round when she’s already being backed into the ropes and doing her best to bury her head in both arms, whilst Collins is busy burying more lefts and rights into her tummy, working the paunch repeatedly before Petsch manages to clinch up and negate the Vixen’s movements. Not a good opening round for the redhead, who finds herself constantly pressured and wailed upon throughout!
ROUND 2:
Madelaine already looks a little winded but her face is still filled with a certain malice as she marches out of the corner at the bell, intending payback. Lily’s flying forth again, hands up and ready to resume her pounding. Redhead’s front guard taking a beating again as Collins predicts the easiest win of her career in a while, and the American shrieks out loud and grunts as her tummy takes several stiff shots to open. Meanwhile, Lily’s able to duck and weave around some of Petsch’s incoming fire, the bigger woman doing her best to swing back with wild and wide hooks, but to little effect. Suddenly, however, Lily’s moved in far too close, and a little too slowly, as a right hand connects with the side of the head, Madelaine letting out a shout of triumph as another hook hits home in quick succession - BLAM!! Collins is in sudden trouble as she goes staggering off to one side! AND HERE COMES PETSCH, with fire in her eyes!! Lily gets shocked to the arms with a third glancing hook before Petsch gets in even closer to bury her mitts and return uppercuts into the midsection. Lily’s struggling to get away, but no dice, as the fiery redhead hammers another hook clean across the forehead, and DOWN LILY GOES!! Good heavens! It’s one hell of an early KNOCKDOWN in the second minute of the second round! Not a good sign for the veteran indeed! Petsch looks pleased as punch with herself, grinning as she saunters back to her corner with her head held high. Lily, meanwhile, is slowly pushing herself off the ground, groaning as she takes it one knee and one foot at a time on the way back up to the count of 8. A big shock to her system indeed, but at least she makes it out of that melee alive, but not well. This fight just got a little more interesting!
ROUND 3:
Madelaine’s looking more emboldened, coming in hot and ready from the get go, jab jab jabing at Collins’ head from the opening bell. Collins is still holding onto her lunch, skirting the ropes and trying to evade most of the punches, but her arms are taking a beating as Madelaine pushes her way around with a cocky smile etched on her face. Collins has to work with whatever ammunition she has, the occasional counter-jab sunk back into Petsch’s face and body, but not without suffering damage of her own, as Petsch shows plenty of heart and fighting spirit. Both girls working each other over in the middle minute, planting leather along the curve of the waistline and knocking each other’s heads backwards and to the side with mutual gruntwork. Madelaine shows off her superior punching power closer to the end, rocking the Brit with another hook to the arms to send her packing, and Collins has to contend with another round lost to the wind. At least she’s still standing at the end of this one!
ROUND 4:
Lily opts for a clean, defensive posture from the get go, hanging back and making jab attempts at Petsch’s head to dissuade another rush-advance. Petsch on the other hand is busy catching her breath, and the first minute sees little action from both fighters, who circle and stalk each other warily. Collins finally decides to strike when the iron is hot, wading inwards and peppering the guard with some firepower. Madelaine’s offensive capability has suddenly evaporated, and she’s busy protecting her face from incoming fire and constantly moving backwards instead of forward. She just couldn’t keep her own momentum up, and is now paying the price, with Lily’s stamina taking over and full control. Towards the end of the round, Madelaine takes another one-two combo to the arms, then gets her head snapped back by a cross that nails her on the chin. She’s stunned badly, but still standing, narrowly driven into the ropes before Lily gets a chance to put her away for good, but not without a couple of lasting shots to her sternum and ribcage. Bell rings and Collins looks equally tired but back to grinning widely, an arm raised high to acknowledge an incredible comeback performance.
ROUND 5:
Some surprising resilience from Madelaine Petsch thus far, who looks battered but still eager to brawl with the older girl. Lily tries to resume her earlier assault, but the redhead is having none of that, easily dealing with early pressure with several bobs and weaves, then stunning the Brit back with a return hook off the side of the head, which draws a loud grunt of surprise from Lily’s lips. Before the Vixen can recover, Petsch follows up with a hard SWIPE across the face, which sends poor Collins reeling off into the ropes! AND HERE COMES PETSCH: a one-two hup hup to the midsection leaving the brunette covering up and turtled on the ropes! Madelaine busy BULLYING her way inside, putting more power behind chopping uppercuts that rock Lily to her midsection, and fold her over in half! The air gets driven from Lily’s lungs as she desperately attempts to clinch up to save her skin, managing to subdue Maddy’s swings long enough by keeping their bodies glued together for the remainder of the round. Things NOT going well for poor Collins, who’s left bleating and breathing on her opponent’s shoulder until the referee pries himself in, separates and ushers them back to their corners.
ROUND 6:
Lily took a big hit in that last round, but the saving grace is it’s left Madelaine winded, making both ladies circle warily to begin the sixth. Petsch leans a little forward, hunched over and heaving, watching Lily’s hands closely as they fire fast towards her head. She’s trying to stay focused and attentive, dodging or blocking Collins’ jabs, as the Vixen tries to keep her at bay this time. Petsch gets a little complacent, however, when a right cross sails past her arms and lands direct on her nose, as Lily takes the opportunity to break her down from afar, mixing her attacks with a flurry to the face here and then another smacking into her tummy flesh. Madelaine’s advantage begins to slip away once more, and the redhead ends the round by taking several blasts to her arms but they’re mostly hitting the air. She’s just having trouble putting Collins into the ground for good!
ROUND 7:
Another drawn out first minute as both girls circle, with hesitancy Lily’s lost some of that confidence as this fight goes on much longer than she’d expected, now pestering Madelaine from afar and worried about the redhead’s firepower punching back. The Vixen knows she needs to dig deeper and push herself if she wants to make up for that earlier knockdown attempt, and some early shots to Petsch’s face bear some promise, with the American beauty barely responding when she takes several grunting shots straight to her nose and lips, which push her backwards several steps. Petsch has heart and power, but needs to do more with her stamina and pacing. She takes several desperate swings at Collins as the Brit advances, but they’re either ignored or avoided. Collins instead punting that head and chin back with another precise right cross, which sends Madelaine reeling into the ropes, looking groggy! HERE COMES COLLINS, with vengeance on her mind! The Vixen leaps in and smashes another hook off the chin, and ANOTHER off the forehead, which sends Madelaine CRASHING down to her side by the ropes!! This might be it!?! Madelaine looks stunned and breathing hard, one hand holding onto the bottom rope and trying desperately to pull herself off the ground, to no avail! Lily calmly strides back to the neutral corner as the referee takes over the fate of this fight! Unfortunately for one woman, he reaches the count of 10 and WAVES it off! It’s OVER!
Official Decision: Lily Collins defeats Madelaine Petsch via KO7!
AFTER:
Lily points and gestures to the crowd, strutting about all four corners of the ring with her head held high.
“That was too easy,” she exclaims to reporters later. “Now, I get to sit back and watch dear Emma make a fool of herself in the main event” she says, referencing Emma Watson’s
upcoming fight against an old rival and local favourite Saoirse Ronan.
Meanwhile, Petsch shows plenty of promise in her early career, looking red-faced and nodding to the medic’s questions in the post-fight.
“I had her on the ropes a couple of times back there,” Madelaine says, fighting back tears. “One thing I know: if Nell could almost beat her, I almost did the same back there. When we meet again, the result is going to be very different.”
