While Rachel Nichols was challenging Adriana Lima for Mistress of the Body Saddle, these two put on one of the highlights of 2016!
Before: Alexandra is eager to fight Bar: "She's one of the biggest names in beach fighting and I need to beat her to prove I belong on the sand, too. I know it won't be easy--but I am determined to take her down and walk her. It’s not personal, but I’ve arrived and soon everybody else will have to admit it!"
Bar dismissive: “She’s been flailing away in JMD all this time. I don’t fight that way, and I’ll cut her to pieces if she tries to. But just to make sure she’s on familiar territory, I do promise to smother her out once I’m done with her!,” leaning forward to emphasize her point by putting her more-than-capable rack on display.
Bar in her pink triangle-cut Stacy-busting bikini, white gloves, hair wet and wind-blown stringy. Alexandra debuting her new Baywatch togs, a blue & black sporty-top and boyshort bottoms (is that a dig at Rachel or just marketing? Why not both?) Black gloves, hair pulled back in a battle-pony.
R1: Bar coming forward in that crouch, right hand set, snapping the left with authority as she keeps Alexandra outside in the first minute. Daddario pounces midway through, gambling on overhand rights and wide lefts that miss as Refaeli falls back to the ropes, but, ultimately pays off when a clouting left hook flush drops Bar’s hands as her head lolls on her chest and Alex POURS it on! Squaring up, Daddario pumps lefts and rights to the chest, then the face of her foe, Refaeli slumping sideways, but keeping her feet. And, in the final minute, Bar starts punching back! Refaeli starts to beat Daddario to the punch as the girls trade lefts and rights, Alexandra giving ground step by step as Bar hammers her back to midring. Bell sounds, both girls slugging flat footed as the ref is forced to intercede.
R2: Bar snapping the jab off her belly, right hand at her chin, angling her left shoulder at Alex. Daddario slidestepping back, crossing to her right, tactical opening moments as the girls feel each other out. Midway through, Alexandra times blonde stick, rolls the jab with her left shoulder and slings in a whistling right on the mouth. Bar stepping funky, nearly pitches to her face, then stagger-steps sideways with a wounded look. All Daddario the rest of the way, walking Refaeli down, gets after her waist left/right/left, finishes up with a clouting right on the eye that spills her blonde ropeside. Bar covers up, takes a mule-kicking to her ribcage as Alex has her way at the bell.
R3: Alexandra uptempos this round, bashing a series of short, overhand rights to Bar’s temple and eye, bludgeoning her to the ropes and busting open an ugly gash on the left side of her forehead. Refaeli swooning, bending mechanically, but too slowly to make Daddario miss. Accurate, snapping combinations buffet Bar’s face left and right, but Alex doesn’t ignore the body. Refaeli’s body cringes from vicious left hand digs, Daddario twisting her hips and arching her back to rip the punches home. Alexandra won’t let up after the bell, piling on a few more cudgeling lefts and rights in close as Bar soaks it up in a stupor, ref jumps in and escorts her back to her corner.
R4: Bar using the fade-away, drawing Alex’s right hand that comes up short, then rocking forward to bash a vicious right hand counter off the sternum--DADDARIO IS ROCKED! Alexandra wobbly butt, stumbles forward to clinch, and Bar has a field day. Keeping her hands low up front, letting Daddario grapple up around her neck but moving her fists back and forth into the brunette’s torso. Early Refaeli advantage evolves into give and take, toe to toe struggle as Alex stubbornly refuses to wilt. Hard fought round goes to Bar on early power--both girls looking shopworn with so much further to go.
R5: Alex opens rough, coming in hard with her head to re-open the cut over Bar’s left eye and taking over as she tries to shake off the flagrant butt. Hammer and tongs, back and forth as the girls grind forehead to forehead, touching one another with clubbing hooks to the body and head, little right uppercuts or chopping right hands on the cheekbones in close quarters. This is brutal take no prisoners stuff--and very tough to score. Fought in a phone booth, both girls getting off in turn and laying waste to another in a series of brutal exchanges. Crowd roaring at the bell--neither girl wants to let the other get the last punch in with predictable results, Both warned for extra curricular activity this round.
R6: Bar crosses her arms and lets Alex get off for a solid minute, brunette groggy, but moving her arms, swatting and clubbing at her blonde with hard, but mostly blocked leather. Refaeli takes over at the halfway mark and never looks back--HER punches are straighter, harder, more selective, breaking Daddario down with every impact. Round drifts lazily to the ropes, Alexandra covered up or clinching, Bar working methodically, just sticking her heavy fists into the brunette’s taut body, or bashing at Daddario’s skull with crude hacks. Refaeli collapses forward at the bell, pulled off a battered Alex, groggily taking in the sight with her one good eye.
R7: Alex showing terrific resiliency, hanging back with a high, disciplined guard, pre-empting Bar with a sticking jab between the eyes, stepping to the left to keep the blonde turning. Whenever Refaeli tries to close, Daddario gives ground in good order, ringing her up with baited hooks until blonde stops her advance--then it's back on with the punishing stick up the middle. Alexandra keeping her right hand high and tight, taking no chances as Bar bends and sets to counter with hooks, but cant get off this round
R8: Neither girl has much left below the waist, they lay in together, forehead-to-forehead, and take turns working one another to the midsection. Slower, but still ruinous pace as the girls try to get everything on each punch, holding one another about the waist or shoulders as they heave in the free hand. Tumbling along the ropes, lead changes every few seconds as each feeds off the other’s fatigue. Close round called for Refaeli as she seems the stronger girl down the stretch.
R9: Bar jabbing from a flat footed stance, squashes that left mitt hard against Alex’s willing face, leaves center ring with hands down at her chest. Refaeli putting ponderous combinations together and it’s all connecting flush--the jab, the hook, the right uppercut and short right cross. Daddario beaten back to the Stone Age, arms crossed useless against her body as she staggers forward, backward, to the side. Bar blasting away with everything she has left, routinely crushes Alexandra’s head back but can’t put her down. Final minute has the crowd roaring half in frenzy, half in horror as Refaeli beats the other woman down at the ropes. Heartbreaking stuff, Daddario beaten beyond recognition, out on her feet, but refusing to go down as an exhausted Bar, left hand don, finishes up with scrubbing right uppercuts in close as she leans on her foe.
R10: Alex shuffling sand as she comes out, Bar sticking the jab from her hip in the opening moments but the fight turns on a go-home right that clocks the blonde’s head violently to the side, Refaeli wobbly butt and hurt, gloves at her lips, covers up as Daddario comes alive, ripping consecutive hooks to the body then the head and BAR IS HURT! Blonde girl shaken up, crossing her arms and swaying right in front as Alexandra gets off with clubbing lefts and rights. Double lefts followed by jolting single right hands pile up on Refaeli’s available jaw and BAR GOES DOWN! Blonde shellshocked, gets to her feet and reels back to the ropes as the ref checks her glassy eyes. Alex wades in and launches a barbaric assault, going left/right to the waist, then straightening to bang the hook off Bar’s drooping head. Looking to finish. Daddario squaring up, digs to the right side with sledgehammer hook as Refaeli bends forward, Exhaustion and punishment, on full display over the last ninety seconds, Alexandra's leaning down on her blonde, rack pressing on top of Bar's rack, thumping uppercuts into her bikini top while Refaeli basically paws at the brunette's flanks. Alexandra can’t get enough to put Bar away, but Refaeli can’t get off the ropes, forced to take weight. Bell sounds, Alexandra doesn’t back off an inch, keeping up the punishment until the ref tackles her away. Daddario on all fours, panting into the sand, Refaeli throat bared, chest heaving as she leans back on the strands. Both fighters have to be practically carried to their corners, judges ringside checking and rechecking the scores epic Fight of the Year candidate comes back…..A DRAW? Nobody bothers to even think of OT, this one’s gonna stay a Tractorpull special!
After: Both girls showing signs of the bitter struggle, eyes swollen, lips cracked and puffy. Scorecards come down to the 5th: All three judges called it a draw, either woman breaks through, and they take the win. Alex refusing to accept the verdict demands a rematch. “She knows I won the fight. If you have any scrap of integrity you’ll do this again.” Negotiations pending on the rematch, but the words “body paint” are already being bandied about
