BEFORE
Alex Curran comes to the podium “I’m told that Charlize hardly ever comes to these pre-fight activities. She is doesn’t want to say the wrong thing. That’s smart, but most to you don’t know me. This is my first FCBA fight. When word got around that Charlize was looking for BBU fighters in her age group to fight, lot of us jumped at the chance. I’m told our names were placed in a jar and the next name drawn is the next opponent. Charlize doesn’t care who it is. Of course, I know who Charlize is and I know her reputation, but I have never talked to her or seen her fight. We asked her management if would send us film of her fights. They generously sent us three fights. Her last two against Jovovich and Krupa and last month’s fight against Upton. I watched her get savagely beaten and knocked out cold in all three. I was horrified. I thought why are they letting this woman fight. She’s too old, too many fights, too beaten up and she is going to get seriously hurt. They need to ban her. Then it occurred to me that maybe there is something wrong here ,so I call Nicola McLean who had just fought her. She said I was being played. Theron had a brief let down in the first two and in the last one she was just too old and too small to fight one of the three or four top fighters in the FCBA these days. She told me that Theron is still a great fighter and very dangerous. She said just when you think you have her ready for a knockout, you find yourself on your back whiffing smelling salts
THE FIGHT.
Alex is in the ring. She’s wearing a pretty lavender bikini with black gloves and boots. Her hair is cut a little short. As she waits for Charlize, the arena is suddenly filled with raucous music as the Dropkick Murphys’ “Blood” blast out “You better watch out, you better beware….If you want blood, We’ll give you some” Alex asks her corner what’s going on Her corner reply “I’ve been told it announces the Greatest of all Time has arrived” Alex watches the Nascar team come down the aisle surrounding Charlize. She asks her cornerman “is that Upton with her? Her replies it is. She says she has never seen or been involved in anything like this. He says “It’s the Americans. They took some of our laws and they took some of our customs, but the one thing they forgot to take was our class They are basically crude savages” Charlize enters the ring and Alex locks eyes with Charlize who is wearing a black Bikini with black gloves and boots, Her hair is still in those dreadlocks, Charlize smiles and gives her a friendly nod
Round 1. Curran has been told she’s not a big hitter like Upton. To win, she is going to have to kill the body, take Theron’s legs away and then pour on the punishment. She is also told that Theron always opens the fight with a right jab so be prepared. The two meet in the center of the ring. Just as forecast, there is that Theron right jab. Alex takes it and drops down a little and pumps a left-right-left to Theron’s the midsection. Charlize backs off. but Curran is inside her guard and lands a couple more hooks to the blonde’s midsection. Charlize’s legs take over as she whirls away. Curran is on the hunt and she doesn’t back off, but presses her attack. She takes a couple more jabs to her face but manages to land a couple punches to Theron’s solar plexus and hears Theron grunt. Charlize lands another jab and then lets go with a right cross, which Curran luckily manages to avoid and she lands a pair of hooks to Charlize’s bra. Alex is just a tad slow and Theron’s legs get her away from trouble. Alex is determined to keep up the attack and as Theron expects her to go back to the body, she comes up with an uppercut that sends Charlize back into the ropes. Curran is not slow this time and goes back to the body turning Theron’s midsection a light pink at the bell. In Theron’s corner Kate Upton gets in her face. “What was that? You do know that was the first round.? She did well, you sucked. You realize she is going to your body. You just going let her make mush out of that old decrepit midsection. You know those extensions below your hips, they are called legs. You have two. They may be old, but use them, let her chase you for a couple rounds. When she tries get in close, use that right hand. You do remember, that right hand is good for more than jabs or waving goodbye”
In Curran’s corner she is told she had a good round. She should stay low, get inside Theron’s guard and work that body
Round 2. Curran comes out low, bobbing and weaving. She going to go back to the body and forcing Charlize to punch down on her, losing some power. She manages to get inside Theron’s guard again and starts punching away at Theron’s body. Charlize drops her hands to push Curran away and Curran comes up with a right uppercut and snaps Charlize’s head back. A right cross lands, sending Charlize to her left and into a corner. Charlize looks hurt and Curran abandons the body attack and goes for the head. She starts punching Charlizes away at the older blonde’s head. Left and right as crosses land. Suddenly she’s shocked and staggered asTheron right uppercut lands flush on her jaw. It’s now Theron on the attack. She drives Curran to the ropes punching away. Left and right crosses land on Alex’s head. Two overhand blows sink into her bra. A right to her solar plexus, then a left. Alex’s hands are dropping. Theron is now punching away at will. Nothing is coming back from her opponent. Curran is getting beaten into a stupor. The referee is watching. He’s on the verge of stopping the fight when Curran manages a right to Theron’s chin as the bell rings. In Theron’s corner, Upton says, “that was more like it. You got her hurt. Go ahead and finish it. You know a person your age runs out of energy pretty quickly” Theron smiles and sticks her tongue out at Kate. In Curran’s corner it’s a different tune. “Stay away, play for time for time to recover”
Round 3. Curran comes out moving parallel to the ropes Theron is also on the move. She is not following Curran. She is pressing Curran as she moves. Theron is cutting down the ring. Alex soon finds herself trapped in a corner. She’s going to have to slug her way out, but she doesn’t have much punching room. Charlize goes to work. A right to the left ear, left to the right ear , uppercut to the tummy, left, right to the chest and a body twisting uppercut to the chin. Charlize steps back as Curran staggers out of the corner. Charlize waits and then that right hand comes off her hip landing flush on Curran’s chin. She collapses onto her back, It’s obvious that she is not going to get up. Charlize looks down on her and then turns and goes to her corner where Upton gives her a high five. The referee doesn’t bother to count. He rolls her over onto her back and removes her mouthpiece as her corner comes in to bring her around. The referee come overs to hold up her right hand, but she refuses and waits until she see Alex start to come around. Then she heads to the dressing room.
AFTER. Alex and Charlize are both at the table. Charlize is the first to talk “I want to thank Alex for taking this fight. She gave me a really bad time in the first round. She did a job on my body. After that, I had to listen Upton run her mouth” Quite frankly I don’t know what was worse, but my midsection is really sore.
Alex speaks up. I got what I wanted, a fight with Charlize. Unfortunately It didn’t go as I wanted.. I heard that her legs were shot and her right hand had gone soft. McLean warned me. I should have paid more attention to her. Let you tell you, Charlize’s legs are not gone, I don’t know what they were like ten years ago but if they were any better I'm happy I waited till now to fight her. Don’t even talk about that right hand. It’s still there. The next time Upton fights her, she better watch out. She doesn’t realize what she has awakened.
