Intro:
Second bout of tonight sees Ireland's Saoirse Ronan step up to the plate for team Rest of the World, across from her is Leven Rambin hoping to increase her teams lead after Debby Ryan got Team USA off the mark with a win, we are in Nebraska's Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Before this clash both women were asked to put their views on camera, Saoirse was first up wearing a green satin dress, sitting smiling as she brushes her hair back behind her ears, maybe a few butterflies in her stomach, especially considering she has been struggling for wins lately after a run of great results before.
"This is amazing for me, I don't know how much I really deserve being in the team considering my recent results, I am here and ready to turn my fortunes around, Leven is a great person but she isn't stopping me in that ring" says Saoirse, looking more fired up as she speaks, keeping her message short and sweet as she stands up to leave.
Leven meanwhile steps into her teams camera room wearing a white dress, she sits down looking serious, telling the camera "I am proud to be part of this great team, looking around at young fighters like Debby and having a great captain like Lily Aldridge has me so excited to come train for the first time in awhile" Leven hasn't had great form herself since she was cut by Front Street Boxing, maybe the motivation hasn't been there for her.
Leven continues "to Saoirse, well I have plenty of respect for you, I know you are a class act in and outside the ring, this is strictly business and I look forwards to finding out how good I am right now" nodding to the camera as she stands up.
Fight night, first through the curtain comes Saoirse with her team coach Davina McCall beside her, she looks focused after taking a breath at the top of the aisle, she was actually born in New York so this has to be a strange feeling for her, she is wearing a blue sports bra with an Irish flag design on her trunks, blue gloves and boots, hair tied into a ponytail as she gets into the ring, getting a pat on her back from Davina to reassure her she will win this.
Leven now steps out onto the aisle with her eyes locked onto the ring, she walks down the aisle with Claudia Schiffer following behind her, she is wearing a red sports bra, boots and gloves, American flag design trunks, hair is in a ponytail too as she steps into the ring, tapping her gloves together as she dances on her toes.
Referee waves the fighters to the center of the ring, eyes locked as they both know the importance of a win for the team and themselves, they respectfully touch gloves as they nod to each other, jogging back to their corners with the crowd behind Leven, the bell rings to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1:
Off they go at the bell, Saoirse the one more up on her toes as Leven is already trying to catch her with hard straights behind her jab, maybe hoping Saoirse is under pressure due to the team scorecard, Saoirse though showing off good defensive movement to dodge and land good counters, mostly taking only glancing shots in the opening minute.
Leven showing her experience though to land a good double jab into the abs of her opponent, moving back when Saoirse swings in an overhand right that finds air, a straight then smacking the Irish star into her lips, knocking her head back as Leven looks to have found her target now, driving Saoirse back towards the outside part of the ring.
As they enter the final minute of the round, Leven loads up too much on a right hook, Saoirse dipping under it as she steps inside, thudding in two short body shots, then an overhand left smacks Rambin to the side of her head, that unsettles the American enough for Ronan to power her onto the ropes, Leven needing to soak up the assault on her guard as she shells up, still several good punches land around her guard till the bell rings, where that Kate charge by Ronan looks to have won her the first competitive round of the fight.
Round 2:
Now they have a taste for each others skills they are opening up more, combination punching coming from both, Saoirse looks to be getting the better of the early exchanges again, slipping several punches to dig away on the inside.
But Saoirse walks into a right cross as Leven feints with a jab to make her crouch, a jab does follow to push back the smaller fighter, Leven powering forwards as she has Saoirse near the ropes, targeting more the torso of Ronan, Rambin is starting to dictate the action, with Saoirse able to land only a few good combos in return.
A one-two combo though knocks back Saoirse's head, a left cross turns it as she is driven into a neutral corner, Saoirse tries to fight back at first before realising she needs to cover up as her opponent is landing the cleaner and harder strikes, the round soon ends with Leven soon evening the scorecard, both fighters looking serious as they listen to their coaches, knowing they are facing a good opponent.
Round 3:
Again Saoirse comes off the blocks the faster of the fighters, Leven maybe carrying a little ring rust as it's taking her some time to catch Saoirse with a real solid shot, though she does manage too at the fifty second mark with a straight into the forehead of the Irish lass to knock her back a step.
When Rambin holds the center of the ring is when she looks more dangerous, she is doing that now as Saoirse hasn't as much room to slip punches, though Saoirse hasn't given up by any means, still landing several good single punches, she is being outworked by the increasing more confident Leven as the fight is going on.
Less then fifty five seconds to go, Leven does miss with a left cross as Saoirse times her counter attack perfectly, deflecting the punch with her right glove before landing a stiff jab into the chin of Leven, a right cross then turns the head of the bigger fighter, Leven now finding herself in a phonebooth style battle as Saoirse let's her hands go, the round ends with both taking a step back and locking eyes, letting their opponent know they are here to win before returning to their corners, the crowd cheering Leven on as they sense she is able to bully back her opponent, giving them confidence in her.
Round 4:
Trading stiffer shots now as Saoirse plants her feet a little more, the Irish fighter maybe realising she needs to stand her ground more to win this fight, Leven catching her a little more then the past few rounds early on, though she isn't bullying Saoirse back yet.
Ducking under a left hook, Saoirse comes up with an overhand right to turn Leven's head, then lands a double jab as she steps in with it, Leven finding herself being crowded back into a neutral corner as Ronan starts switch hitting, showing her hand speed off as it makes it hard for Leven to block, she grabs onto Saoirse to slow her down, both women push apart when the referee orders them to break.
Saoirse gets a little overzealous when they resume, Leven catching her with a left cross to her cheek followed by a straight, Saoirse now fighting off the back foot as they head into the final moments of the round, Leven landing a one-two square into the face of Ronan just before the bell rings to end the round, jogging back to their corners with an intense look on their faces.
Round 5:
Both are trying to force the other back early in the round, leading to a little more scruffy again as a missed right cross by Saoirse nearly leads to her crashing her head into Leven's chin if not for the taller woman being able to shove her back in time, Rambin then catching her with a left/right cross combo around her jaw.
A straight sends Saoirse back onto her heels as Leven now starts to follow up with a few more harder shots, Saoirse trying to fight back but a jab knocks her head back, AN UPPERCUT LANDS ONTO THE CHIN OF SAOIRSE TO SEND HER ONTO HER BACKSIDE!
That gets the crowd going as Leven jogs over to a neutral corner, 1...2...3.. Saoirse shakes her head to clear her head, 4...5... Pushing to her right knee, watching the count as blinks, 6...7...8.. Pushing up to her feet, still around a minute to go, as she raises her arms in the air, nodding that she wants to fight on.
Of course Leven is on the front foot, not quite as sharp now she is swinging in power punches, Saoirse smartly holding when she gets a chance, both grappling as Leven tries to break free to work over Saoirse, instead as they resume it's Ronan who catches her out with an uppercut to the body and an overhand left as Leven misses with a right hook, the bell rings with Leven getting a big knockdown but Saoirse's fighting spirit hasn't left her yet.
Round 6:
Coming back out their corners with hard looks being exchanged, Leven looking to close out the show as she steps in with her punches, she misses with a left hook as Saoirse dips under it, a left slams into Leven's solar plexus, then an uppercut knocks back the American onto her heels.
A follow up miss by Leven leaves her open to another clean shot to the body, she looks to be getting worried as Saoirse starts to catch her more cleanly, a right hook turns Rambin's head as Saoirse now starts to land her punches in bunches with two more straights smacking her to the face, A LEFT HOOK ON THE CHIN BUCKLES THE LEGS OF LEVEN BEFORE A RIGHT HOOK SENDS LEVEN ONTO HER BACK!
Saoirse bangs her gloves together as she heads to the neutral corner, crowd stunned silent, 1...2...3... Leven groans as she rolls to her front, 4...5...6.. Some of the crowd yell at Leven to get up, she crawls to the nearest set of ropes, 7...8... Grabbing the ropes, Leven tries to pull herself but slips as she falls back to all four, 9...10 it's over! Leven couldn't beat the count!
Winner Saoirse Ronan KO Round 6
After:
Saoirse jogs over to her corner smiling, evening the score for her team and getting her first win in over a year, Davina hugs her as they share a moment, Davina telling her how proud she is of her performance, coming back to win this hard fought fight.
Leven on the other hand needs help to stand by her coach Claudia, shaking her head in as much disbelief as well as clearing her vision, sitting on her stool with her eyes shut as she tilts her head back, taking a long breath to stop herself cursing the situation, Claudia having to console her as she kneels in front of her.
Over comes Saoirse once she has her gloves off and is cleaned up, she puts out a hand to Leven, who looks at her before taking the hand and shaking it, showing they have respect as Leven nods to her, nothing else said as Saoirse retreats back to her own corner, Leven pushes to her feet off the stool to leave the ring moments later.
A few applaud Leven for her effort, most ignore her as she heads to the back, Leven shaking her head as she can't believe she lost, she is performing well but maybe needs to find that killer instinct again that made her a dangerous fighter in the past.
In the ring Saoirse gets her left hand raised by the referee, she nods to the cameras before going back over to Davina, thanking her for her support before they step out the ring together, a weight looks to have been lifted from the shoulders of Saoirse now she has a win on her record again.
