TESS VALMORE
The January PPV was the biggest card in the FCBA history with fifty four bouts including all four of the titles being up for grabs. Vanessa Hudgens successfully defended the flyweight title beating Jessica Lowndes. Now we know why Demi Rose kept ducking Elizabeth Olsen. It’s a good thing that Olsen took the title. I would have had a lot of egg on my face had she lost. Mary Elizabeth Winstead retained the lightweight title by beating Katy Perry. It was Perry’s fifth straight loss in a title fight. Of those five title fight losses three have been to Winstead. To nobodies surprise, Amanda Righetti retained her welter title in a tough fight against Karen Gillan.
The welter division remains a private club. There are eight fighters who dominate the division. You might say it’s those eight and then there is cannon fodder. As to
Upcoming title fights, Righetti has recently beaten Ferguson. Rhoda and Gillan. The last top welter who beat her was Kate Upton and that fight was over a year ago. To me Upton is a choice. Kostek would be another choice. Righetti hasn’t faced her since August 2019. Of course, what I think doesn’t matter as a champion can choose her opponent. Robyn Lawley is on a roll, but I am not quite ready to put her in the top ten
In the lightweights, Kendall Jenner and Emily DiDonato both made big moves towards a possible title fight. Jenner beat Taylor Swift, but Winstead took the title from Jenner last September. I think the two have fought six times with Winstead having a 4-2 lead. DiDonato had a big win over Brooklyn Decker. I think she would be a good choice particularly since the two have never fought. Alexis Ren could be another choice. She has won eight of her last twelve but three of those losses were to Taylor Swift. The two have fought twice with each winning one. She is no longer in title chases, but Charlize Theron added to her reputation as the greatest of all time by notching her 300th win at the age of 46.
Elizabeth Olsen has been on a two year rampage. Since the beginning of 2020 the has gone 25-5. In that last year, the only fighters to beat her were Kosarin and Larson. Larson has won six of her last seven and has faced Olsen twice winning once. Kosarin has taken two of three from Olsen, but she had two title shots last year and failed in both. She also shouldn’t ignore Nina Dobrev although she beat Dobrev at the beginning of last year. Anya Taylor-Joy suffered a setback in her loss to Chopra. The bantam division has a wealth of talent so there is a number of suitable title matches. Olsen might have difficulty in choosing her next opponent because of the wealth in talent
The flyweight division is similar to the bantam is the depth of talent. I think the biggest move were made by Chloe Grace Moretz in her win over Emma Roberts.
Cree Cicchino ran her record to 17-3 with a win over Madison Beer. I’m not sure she is ready to challenge Vanessa Hudgens. Dove Cameron has a career record of 14-14 but has won ten of her last twelve against decent competition They all would be suitable choices but Hudgens has a wide range from which to choose.
There was a positive development in this PPV. Out of 54 fights there was only one JMD/D fight. That’s what I call progress
