Jack Gordon: Hello folks, Jack Gordon here with another edition of Free Punchers Round-Up, the only station for Free Punchers news and analysis. I'm joined this time by flyweight Abigail Breslin, Head of Scouting Rhea Seehorn, and Communications Director Cara Buono. Abigail let's start with you... 2021 was a really good year for you. You went 5-1 on the year and 4-0 with Free Punchers. How much did a fresh start help?
Abigail Breslin: It was everything. To be given a chance with a stable after listlessly drifting around the league as a free agent for years... it was honestly a little emotional to get that call. And I just didn't want to disappoint Jennifer, Claire, or Amy. They put their faith in me and I had a really successful year because of their guidance. It's not easy to pick up the phone and call someone who had a gap of two years between their fighting career. But they did... and I just want to make them proud.
Jack: You somewhat uncharacteristically called out an opponent... Billie Eilish. Why her and why now?
Abigail: Well Jack, as it's been heavily reported and stated Front Street has been going through a lot of changes. I think we'd all be shocked if Billie wasn't on that roster heading into this new year. She's an unbeaten twenty-year old with some of the best power in the division. So, I thought it was a good idea to put my name in her ear now that the dust is settling over there. I think we're a great matchup. I think our respective power will give one another a tough time and I only hope Front Street sees that. I know my stable wants to see us in the ring together... so let's make it happen this year.
Jack: Congratulations again on a wonderful year. Now Rhea, you're the Head of Scouting and Free Punchers just announced two new additions to the roster. Tell me how this came about and what you can tell me about them as fighters overall.
Rhea Seehorn: Well Jack, with Margot Robbie that came about... pretty quickly. I mean, we didn't know she was going to be available until what, a couple weeks ago maybe? The timeline on that one was short and things moved very fast. Honestly, we were split between two bantamweights to add... but our evaluations favored Robbie.
Jack: Sources indicate that other boxer was Scarlett Johansson... care to confirm that?
Cara Buono: No Jack, she will not and neither will anyone else at Free Punchers. We've signed Margot and we're happy with that. Anyone else we were previously considering at the Bantamweight division we no longer are considering. Let's leave it at that.
Jack: Fair enough. Now Kiernan Shipka... very young fighter there, what stood out about her?
Rhea: Well, we go through an... extensive... evaluation program. And let's just say she showed a determination to win that I-er... I mean we at Free Punchers weren't initially sure she had. She has the heart to be a champion. Under Claire's coaching we think she can attain the skill.
Jack: And finally Cara, it's been an up and down year for some of your boxers. Obviously Abigail and Iskra didn't lose once with your stable. But Elyse went 2-3 with frankly embarrassing losses to Milana Vayntrub and Miranda Cosgrove. Laura started out with two wins, but those were against borderline bantam/lightweights. When she faced two true lightweights she seemed to struggle with the uptick in power. So, how do you balance the good and the bad?
Cara: Let's make it clear... this was a successful year for Free Punchers. We went 12-5 as a stable in a few short months. That can't be discounted. As far as Elyse and Laura go, look... we are standing by them and going to give them opportunities to succeed. But it's also true that they need to seize those opportunities. We're adding another flyweight in the room... if that doesn't wake some people up then I don't know what to tell you. Laura is still very new at this and we think we have a really good opponent to help her adjust to the power element of her weight class. We expect big things from both of those fighters this upcoming year. So we'll see if they meet our expectations or not.
Jack: Well that's about all we have left for this edition of Free Punchers Round-Up. This is Jack Gordon, signing off!
