TESS VALMORE
Disclosure: This review will mention two of my personal friends, The GOAT and the Queen. The October PPV was huge card that featured three official title matches and both JMD/D. All three title holders retained their titles as Megan Fox defended the Unified Flyweight title, Mary Elizabeth Winstead retained the lightweight title and Hannah Ferguson remained the welter champ. Demi Rose did not defend the bantam title as she was successfully defend her JMD title The only title holder to lost was Emily DiDonato who lost the JMDD title to Kate, The Queen, Upton The main event featured the long awaited McCarthy/Theron showdown. Theron won the bout by an eleventh round KO, but many pundits think McCarthy actually won the fight from a morale standpoint. Many didn’t think she would last three rounds. Almost no one thought she would last seven. In the end of ten it was so close that if one judge would have changed his card by one point, McCarthy would have won The fight was a draw and the eleventh round was McCarthy’s downfall. She should have never fired Scrubby. The fight was a big boost for McCarthy even though she lost.
There were only six welter fights. The “usual suspects” (Casablanca) I loved that movie but I digress. I think the favorites for a title bout should be Karen Gillan who is 8-1 for the year and has never had a title bout. Other candidates, Righetti, Decker and Upton have all held the title is the last twenty months
The lightweights got their share of the PPV action. Amy Willerton and Wallis Day won their fights and bear watching. Emily DiDonato lost her JMDD title but remains a prime candidate for a title fight as does Alexis Ren. To me the next title fight should be between Taylor Swift and Winstead. The two have a long history and are presently fighting for the Mistress Of The Body Saddle. Make the fight for both titles.
In the bantams, I wonder how long Elizabeth Olsen is going to be ducked by the champions. She has won twenty of twenty-five since the beginning of last year yet bantams, when the get to be champion of a sudden pretend she isn’t around. The another main title contender is Brie Larson who also deserves a title shot. Don’t overlook Anya Taylor-Joy who is now 12-1 after beating Nina Dobrev
The flyweights have a number of contenders. Selena Gomez, Cheryl Cole, Dove Cameron are all good choices. Another who shouldn’t be overlooked is Cree Cicchino. Is she as good as she thinks she is?
The insanity of adding new fighter to the Association continues. In the last two weeks, two more were added bringing the total to seventy-four. Yes, I know we need new blood but how many of the seventy four will have two fights in a year. Most serve as cannon-fodder. I think we should have a rule. A manager who brings a new fighter into the Association must guarantee her four fights in the first year.
