Intro:
We kick off tonights action with the debut of a young singer who has taken the charts by storm, Olivia Rodrigo steps into an FCBA ring for the first time, she hasn't picked an easy first opponent as she takes on Rita Ora here on Copacabana Beach.
The fight came about as Olivia announced on her social media "big news guys! I have just signed up to fight on the next Fight Night Live card on Copacabana Beach, only issue is who do I fight? 😁" along with a photo showing off her bikini body ready for a fight.
Rita promptly replied "so I hear you want an opponent kid, I hope you pick me because I am so sick of your song (Drivers License) playing all the time, it was cute at first but like you has already over stayed it's welcome" Rita never one to turn down a chance to flaunt her own body in a bikini, added a photo of her own.
Which caused Olivia to respond "Rita do you actually still sing? I thought you had retired the amount of times I see you on a beach, guess you are used to laying in the sand, I'll happily help you out having a snooze on the beach, just need to bring your boxing gloves 😂 #challengeaccepted" both left the social media sparring to go training afterwards judging by the videos they both posed of them working out on beaches, hitting the punch bags at their gyms, anything to show their opponent what awaits them.
Fighting time on the beach, there's bleachers surrounding the ring, with the ring posts themselves stuck into the beach, judges tables set up on one side of the ring with the time keeper near them as everything is set up.
First to get sand between their toes is the debutante Olivia, she is beaming as she walks to the ring wearing her navy blue bikini with matching gloves, her hair tied into a ponytail as she walks around the ring itself to make sure she can get everyone on side judging by her blowing kisses at the fans, then she steps into the ring to a loud cheer.
Now here comes Rita wearing a silver string bikini with matching gloves, hair in a ponytail too as she wears a pair of sunglasses, getting her coach to take them off as she giggles looking over at her opponent, yelling "still in kids sizes I see" cupping her own breasts to get into her opponents head, she steps into the ring looking confident she is going to give her rookie opponent a not so welcoming debut.
Both fighters step to the middle of the ring, chesting up as they exchange insults, referee needing to nudge them apart, no touch of gloves here as no respect shown, jogging to their corners, they get final words of wisdom from their coaches, then the bell rings to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1:
At the bell both bounce on their toes as they come out to fight, Rita leading the charge by stepping in with her jabs, trying to show Olivia the ropes as she swings in a straight but finds the youngster has impressive footwork to dodge then land a counter left to the jaw of the British star.
Rita looking annoyed early on as Olivia seems to have a good set of basics down, landing a good crisp jab along with moving out the way of Rita's punches that are loaded up, then smacking counters left where Rita has gaps in her guard.
After a strong opening minute Olivia now steps in with a good left cross/straight to knock back Rita a step, as she looks pleased with herself, Ora slams a right across her cheek to remind her not to lose focus, dancing back to range as Rita steps inside with a left hook that lands to the body, the right hook up top doesn't.
After a good solid opening two minutes for Rodrigo, Ora is starting to use her experience to find some gaps in her defences, drilling in several punches around the chest of the rookie, something clearly Olivia hasn't had happen before as her eyes go wide when she is hit there and forced to back off.
At the bell it's the first round on the scoreboard in most peoples eyes for Rodrigo, who looks to be buzzing when jogging to her corner, fist bumping her coach who seems to love her infectious personality, needing to remind her to keep calm and focused.
Round 2:
Kicking up sand as they box around the middle of the ring, Rita needing to move her own head more as she looks to outbox the rookie, getting clipped to her cheeks as Olivia seems to have good hand speed, though maybe not as much power behind them as she'd hope for.
Dipping under a jab to fire in a straight to the abs of Olivia, Rita gets in close to land an overhand left that cracks the American to the side of her head, an uppercut doesn't land flush but it does enough to make Olivia go into her shell, Rita using the opening to power back Rodrigo onto the ropes.
Needing to give Rita a shove to move away from the ropes, Olivia is learning that boxing isn't all fun and games, with Rita keeping in close range, forcing the issue as this is gut check time for Olivia, she has to try to fight her way into this, right now she is closing up the shop, focused on protecting herself more then slugging it out.
Rita now looks to be enjoying herself, bullying around the youngster near the ropes, still taking some pot shots into her face, mostly though on the attack up until the bell rings, a strong response from the veteran as she jogs back to her corner, Olivia chatting away to her coach about what happened as she looks more serious.
Round 3:
As expected Rita is flowing with confidence as she doubles up her jab, switching targets as some of the wind seems to have been taken out the sails of Olivia, with mostly single punches coming back her way after an energetic start from the rookie.
Rita slips a jab to move in closer to test the body of her opponent, feasting on it with short hooks as Olivia gets to see why body punching might be Ora's biggest strength, getting driven into a corner, Rodrigo has to pull her opponent into a clinch, forcing the referee to split them up.
Out of the corner again, Olivia maybe realising she can't let Rita have it all her own way is opening back up again, slamming in a one-two flush into the face of Rita, then taking a right across her ribs as Ora doesn't look ready to relinquish her control so easily on the action.
As they enter the last minute though it is becoming clearer that Olivia is ready to fight back, spiking a counter right onto the nose of Ora after the older fight misses with a left cross, a double jab followed by a straight snaps back the head of Rita as Olivia stands her ground more.
At the bell it's another solid round for Ora, Rodrigo though is nodding as her coach tells her "see what happens when you don't let fear dictate your actions, you can do this honey!" Tapping her left shoulder, Rita staring daggers at Olivia from her corner, wanting to kill off any hype for the prospect now.
Round 4:
Jabbing away to start the round, Olivia is back up on her toes, while Rita manages to get in close with a left to the body, she eats a short right to the jaw to show her she isn't going to have such an easy time staying on the inside like before.
Boxing around the ring with Olivia happy to give up some real estate to Rita, she is landing some beautiful counter shots as Rita keeps trying to pin her to the ropes, a small cut opens under Rita's left eye from one of those counter rights as Ora touches it, seeing the blood makes her grit her mouthpiece in anger.
Rita managing to close the gap in the second minute, Olivia missing with a short right this time as Rita ducks it, muscling Olivia to the ropes as she lands three short digging punches into the body near the waistband of her opponent's bikini bottoms, referee telling her to watch where she is landing as Olivia tries to wrestle Rita off her.
Managing to do so with a two handed shove, as Rita comes at her Olivia feints with a right towards that cut, then dips under a right cross to pound in a right of her own to the solar plexus of Ora, landing a hard overhand left as she turns the head of her opponent to the side.
Knocking Rita back into a neutral corner with a four punch straight combo, the bell rings with Olivia looking back to having a spring in her step, Rita slaps the top turnbuckle downwards when she gets back to her own corner, furious this kid as she sees Olivia is keeping up with her.
Round 5:
Stepping back out their corners knowing the fight is tied up to this point, Rita trying to be more proactive, she can't seem to pin down the almost fly like Olivia, who is landing some snipe like punches through the mitts of Ora to her marked up face, reopening the cut under the left eye again pretty early on.
Throwing in a right cross that finds nothing but air, Rita takes a left on her temple, Rita stumbles forwards two steps, AS SHE TURNS AROUND OLIVIA SMOKES HER WITH A LEFT UPPERCUT FOLLOWED BY A RIGHT HOOK, DOWN GOES RITA TO HER BACK!
Crowd go wild as the rookie jumps up and down, referee needing to remind Olivia to go to the neutral corner, 1...2...3...4... Rita lifts her head up blinking, blood running down her cheek from her cut, 5...6...7.. Rita's head goes back down as she stares up at the sky, 8...9...10 that's it!
Winner Olivia Rodrigo KO Round 5
After:
That's win number one for Olivia, who understandably jumps for joy as she looks out to the crowd, who stand to applaud the young woman, who spits out her gumshield to yell "come on!" So happy with her win, her coach rushes into the ring to give her a hug as they look so proud that the months of training paid off to early success.
Rita on the other hand sits up with help from her coach, she shakes her head from nearly as much disbelief as well as to clear her head, she looks at the overjoyed Olivia and punches the sand in annoyed, believing it should be her celebrating.
Both women return to their corners, Rita needing to be helped to hers as she is still shaken up, gloves are taken off along with them getting a drink, Rita has her head down stewing over this loss, she leaves the ring when she feels able to, some booing her as she storms off.
Olivia doesn't seem to care as she shrugs her shoulders when she comes to the middle of the ring, left hand being raised as she gives the peace sign with her right hand, blowing kisses to the cameras as they step in the ring to capture her first victory.
Leaving the ring herself with her coach, Olivia seems to have a massive future as a singer, is this just the beginning of a successful FCBA career? She jogs off the beach waving to fans as she goes, certainly seeming to win them over already.
