Amy Willerton vs Dakota Johnson
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)
Amy Willerton
(28, 5’9, FCBA Debut, 4-5 BBU, League of Mighty Women)
Dakota Johnson
(31, 5’7 ½, 4-12 FCBA, Free Agent)
Pre-Fight: Next up, the League of Mighty Women’s “resident fighter” Amy Willerton will be entering the ring to show what she is capable of against free agent Dakota Johnson. The clock is ticking for Amy to impress the management of her stable during her residency to secure a permanent place in the roster. This match will be very important for her to make a good first impression. On the other hand, this will be Dakota’s first match back as a free agent after she failed to get a contract renewal from the Global Boxing Syndicate. An impressive performance here could attract interest for her, so it will also be an important match for her to find a potential roster spot with one of the stables.
FCBA Network’s Layla Anna-Lee is with Amy first to discuss her first match as LMW’s resident fighter. “I’m very excited to be here and I’m grateful to the League of Mighty Women for giving me this opportunity. Last few of my matches didn’t end up going the way I would have wanted them to, but this program here is all about making a fresh start and improving yourself as a fighter and I’m looking forward to doing that. Of course, I would like to start this journey with a win here. So, good luck in our fight Dakota, but I will knock you out!” Amy finishes her statement with a smile and a wink towards the camera.
Layla goes over to Dakota’s locker room for a quick chat about her chances going into the match. “I don’t have anything against Amy, but she has also been a free agent and she didn’t see much action lately, so I like my chances going into this one. It is not fun being a free agent waiting for a stable to pick you up, so I hope I can catch someone’s eye with a win here. Who knows, maybe I can show the League of Mighty Women that I would have been the better choice for their residency program and they can remedy the situation next time” says Dakota with a chuckle.
Amy comes out with Angelica Bridges at her side. She walks down the aisle with a smile on her face and waves at the crowd as they cheer for her.
She is wearing a light pink sports bra and matching trunks with white gloves and shoes, while her hair is tied back into a braid.
Dakota makes her entrance with her coach beside her and it sounds like the crowd is generally supportive of her as well, which catches her by surprise considering the look on her face. She gives the fans a quick wave in response as she enters the ring.
She is wearing a black sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, gloves and shoes, while her hair is in a ponytail.
They come to the center of the ring for the final instructions and touch gloves as they wish good luck to each other before heading back to their respective corners. We are now ready for 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Fight: Round 1: It feels like a race to the center of the ring and as both Amy and Dakota rushes it as soon as the bell rings. Now, they are just standing there and trading leather with hooks and straights going to the body and the head, left and right. It is a crazy start, which must be exciting for the fans, but surely these two cannot keep this pace going forward. Another big right hook from Amy finds its target and Dakota finally backs off as it looks like Amy got the better of that wild exchange.
Dakota is on the back foot now and it looks like Amy won’t give her a chance to recover as she pushes forward. A couple of wild swings from Amy are off the mark, but they force Dakota to take another step back. Realizing that her opponent is close to the ropes, Amy works her way inside with a blast to the body and then gives a little shoulder bump to push Dakota back to the ropes. Once on the ropes, Amy starts with an uppercut to the midsection and follows it with a couple of nasty looking hooks to Dakota’s ribs before going for another hook, this time hitting the side of the head. As things are starting to look dire for Dakota, she is able to lean back over the ropes to avoid a cross and then counters with a cross of her own. This gives her the much needed opening to move away from the ropes.
Dakota survives the rest of the round and even lands a few more counters, but Amy easily takes this exciting opening round.
During the break, Dakota’s coach is explaining to her that she cannot just go out attacking like that and that she has to stick to the game plan.
Round 2: Amy comes out attacking again, looking to pick up where she left off, while Dakota starts with a more defensive approach this time, listening to her coach’s advice. The first minute of the round passes with Amy chasing Dakota and landing a few clean shots, while Dakota tries to establish a defensive jab without much success in stopping her opponent’s advance.
Towards the middle of the round, Amy once again comes forward with a hook, but Dakota ducks under it and then comes up with two uppercuts, one to the body and one to the chin. Amy takes two steps back after this counterattack, but Dakota doesn’t follow, instead goes back to her defensive stance.
Dakota stays patient and keeps looking for those openings until the bell rings. Amy was the aggressor, but Dakota ended up landing more clean shots than her opponent, which should help her to even things up on the scorecard.
Round 3: After finding success with this approach last round, Dakota starts with a defensive stance again, while Amy keeps on attacking. Dakota finds more and more success with her counter punches as she focuses more on her opponent’s body this time, while Amy is having trouble landing clean shots in this round.
As we are coming towards the end of the round, Amy looks like she doesn’t want to fall behind on the scorecard as she pursues Dakota more aggressively. Hoping to trap her opponent at the corner, Amy steps forward and swings with hook, but she overextends and gives an opening for Dakota, who sidesteps and lands a big hook instead. This little maneuver turns Amy’s back to the corner instead and Dakota now drives her back with body shots and traps her there. The Brit cannot get out of there, but the bell comes to her help as it signals the end of the round.
A big round for Dakota as Amy’s famous leaky defense makes its own debut in FCBA.
Now it’s Amy’s turn to hear it from her coach. Angelica puts it simply by saying “You can’t keep attacking so recklessly, she is picking you apart. You have to keep your guard up and choose when to attack wisely.”
Round 4: Amy has a more controlled approach at the start of the round, but it is not yet clear if it’s because of Angelica’s instructions or those blows to her body last round. Dakota might be guessing it’s the latter as she is on the attack now.
Listening to her coach and being patient pays off immediately for Amy as she lands a cross right on Dakota’s left eye, who was trying to get inside. Dakota takes a few steps back and immediately raises her glow towards her eye as she blinks. That might cause her some problems as the fight continues. Amy remains focused and patient as she keeps on landing combinations or single crosses from the outside throughout the round and none of those wild swings that got her into trouble last round.
It ends up being a complete turn of events as it was all Amy this round. Dakota has to make some quick adjustments if she wants to stay in this fight. She can’t afford to have another round like that.
Round 5: They were working on it during the break, but that swelling on Dakota’s left eye is getting to the point that it will make it harder for her to see attacks from that side, so she is keeping her guard up tight. Amy continues with her more patient attacking style as she now focuses on her opponent’s body seeing that she has her guard up high. She blasts Dakota’s midsection with hooks and then goes up top with one-two combos as the round continues.
As we are going into the final minute of the round, Amy goes back to the body with a big right hook to the ribs and a lead uppercut to the midsection that forces Dakota to drop her guard. Amy switches her focus up top and lands a brutal right hook. Dakota fails to see it coming with her swollen eye and she falls down face first to the canvas!! 1…2…3…4… Dakota tries to push herself off the canvas and shakes her head to get her bearings back 5…6…7… she is on all fours now, but she needs to act faster if she wants to beat the count 8…9…10 she can’t find the strength to get up as the count passes by!
Official Result: Winner via KO5, Amy Willerton!
Post-Fight: Amy jumps up and down with a huge smile on her face. After a brief celebration, she realizes that they are still checking up on Dakota, so she goes over as her smile is replaced with a worried look. However, Dakota is fine and after a moment Amy helps get back to her feet and they congratulate each other for a good match as they hug.
Dakota is up first to comment after the fight. “She hits hard, I can tell you that. I tried to exploit her defensive openings and it was working well for a while, but I came up short in the end. Congratulations to Amy and back to the drawing board for me!” Dakota concludes her night with a tired look.
Amy is back to being exuberant as she gives her post-fight comments. “I feel fantastic! It was so important for me to start with a win here and I’m so happy that I did! Dakota is a tough girl and she didn’t make it easy. I wish her luck in the future, as I know things can be hard as a free agent. I know there are things that I still need to improve on, but I’m confident that I will grow as a fighter here at the LMW. Now if you’ll excuse me, I only have time for a quick break before my sister’s fight comes up. Good luck sis!”
