Lily James vs Erin Willerton
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)
Lily James
(31, 5’7, FCBA Debut, 2-0 BBU, League of Mighty Women)
Erin Willerton
(23, 5’10, 0-1 FCBA, Free Agent)
Pre-Fight: We have an interesting match-up next as the League of Mighty Women’s Lily James will be fighting against her stablemate Amy Willerton’s younger sister, Erin Willerton! Lily dealt with taller models in her previous matches, but this one could also involve family drama as Erin would like to double up on Willerton victories tonight.
FCBA Network’s Layla Anna-Lee is with Erin first, as she asks Erin’s opinion on appearing on the same card with her older sister Amy for the first time. “It is an exciting night for sure. I didn’t get to watch her match as I was focused on my own preparations, but I’m very happy to hear that she won and I would like to turn this into a Willerton winning streak. I’m grateful for this opportunity that was provided by the LMW and who knows, maybe I can follow my big sister’s footsteps with their residency program too. I just hope that they won’t be angry with me when I knock Lily out!” and with that Erin concludes her interview with a wink to the camera.
Layla is with Lily now and she asks her about fighting against her stablemate’s sister. “I like the Willerton sisters, they are nice. I have been training with Amy for over a month now and Erin visited last week to tour our facility and have a sparring session with her sister, so we met briefly then. I can tell you that we all have been getting along well, but of course it is strictly about the competition once we enter the ring. As far as the match-up goes, she has the height and the reach advantage, but I know how to deal with it given that my previous two matches were also against taller models and I ended up winning both. I respect Erin and I think it will be a good match, but I’m confident.” Lily does look confident as she finishes her interview.
Before the fighters come out, Amy can be seen taking a seat at the ringside, within the portion that is reserved for her stable. She now wears a white tracksuit with light pink stripes on the side.
Lily comes out first to a big cheer from the crowd and she waves at them as she walks towards the ring. Angelica Bridges is right behind her as she takes over the coaching duties once again tonight. It will be a bit interesting for her too as she coached a Willerton earlier tonight and now she is coaching against one.
Lily is wearing a black sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, gloves and shoes while her hair is pulled back into a ponytail.
As she enters the ring, she blows a kiss towards the still cheering crowd and as she walks towards her corner, she exchanges a quick, respectful nod with Amy.
Erin comes out with her coach besides her. She might not be the crowd favorite in this one, but they are still supportive of her, which she responds with a nice smile and a wave with both of her gloved hands.
She is wearing a red sports bra with white trim, matching trunks, gloves and shoes with her hair also in a ponytail.
Once in the ring, Erin waves to her sister, who waves back at her and wishes her good luck. Both fighters now come to the center to listen to the referee’s instructions. They touch gloves afterwards in a respectful manner and we are now ready for 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Fight: Round 1: Both fighters circle around the center of the ring, looking cautious early in the fight as they measure each other up. Lily tests the waters by taking a couple of steps closer to Erin, who immediately reacts with a jab, which she is not necessarily looking to land, but uses more as a warning for Lily not to come close. After attempting this little dance a couple of times, Lily commits to going inside after Erin’s cautionary jab, probably thinking that she wouldn’t follow it up. However, she soon realizes that it isn’t the case as Erin is ready for her advancement and punishes her with a right cross, which immediately stops Lily on her tracks.
After the failed attempt by Lily to get inside, most of the round is fought on the outside, which favors Erin’s style and she ends up landing more clean shots with jabs and straights. As we are entering the final 30 seconds of the round Lily finally gets inside, where she lands a couple of hooks to the body, but Erin blocks the following attempts. It is too little too late from Lily as Erin clearly takes the opening round.
Erin looks happy with how things are going and as she walks back to her corner, she looks over to her sister in the front row, who gives her an approving nod with a slight smile.
Round 2: Both fighters seem to be continuing with their respective game plans as Erin wants to keep it as a long distance affair, while Lily wants to get up close. As Lily tries to get inside, Erin tags her with a jab, which worked well for her last round. However, Lily is more assertive with her advancement this time as she ducks below the follow-up straight and lands a solid right hand to Erin’s solar plexus. She follows that up with a left hook that catches Erin on the ribs, which makes her wince and take a few steps back to get out of Lily’s range. She is not off the hook yet though, as Lily steps forward and hits another straight right to the solar plexus that puts Erin in a full defensive mode as she retreats.
The taller model uses her defensive jab to slow her opponent down, but her legs do the heavy lifting for the rest of the round as she backs away and circles the ring whenever Lily gets inside to land a few body shots that do damage.
It is Lily’s turn to win a big round to even things up on the scorecard. Angelica encourages her fighter to continue like that in the next round.
Round 3: Having seen what their opponents are capable of in the previous two rounds, they both make some adjustments in this one. Erin starts doubling up her jabs, not only to keep Lily at bay, but also to increase her work rate to leave a better impression with the judges. Lily responds by not always trying to get inside and instead sidestepping Erin’s double jabs to land single body shots and disengaging afterwards.
It ends up being a much closer round, but Lily just about edges her opponent to take the lead. While Angelica tells Lily to keep it up, Erin’s coach tells her to show a bit more urgency with her offense.
Round 4: Erin comes out with her mind set on attacking in this round as she pushes the tempo and comes forward with two and three-punch combos. However, Lily finds continuous success with sidestepping these attacks and tagging the model with body punches before stepping away.
Looks like Erin is starting to get frustrated with her opponent’s evade-hit-run strategy as we are getting close to the final minute of the round. Erin goes for another jab and Lily sidesteps once again as she looks for an uppercut to the body, but she ends up walking into a nasty right hook. Erin set her up! Down goes Lily! As Erin walks to the neutral corner with a smile on her face, she looks over to her sister once again, who gives her a thumbs up but otherwise refrains from showing her emotions. 1…2…3… Lily slowly gets on to all fours 4…5…6… she is getting up to her feet as she rubs the side of her face with her glove 7…8… she is up and ready, so the referee wipes her gloves and we are back to fighting!
Lily is on the defensive now as she tries to survive the rest of the round, while Erin bombards her guard with jabs and straights. However, she doesn’t land many clean shots and nothing that puts Lily in danger again in this round.
Between the rounds, Angelica lectures Lily about not walking into punches, telling her to cut back on sidestepping and to focus her efforts on getting inside.
Round 5: Erin starts the round with a confident look as she immediately goes on the offense, wanting to finish what she started last round. Lily is more careful with her movement and has her guard tight. Erin throws some punches from the outside in the first minute, but they don’t really bother Lily as she keeps her guard up.
As we are entering the second minute, Lily works her way to the inside and lands a few body shots that force the model to take a few steps back. Erin tries to move around, but Lily cuts her angle and as she dips under a jab, she lands a massive overhand punch that catches Erin by surprise. Lily presses on with a double jab up top to drive Erin back and trap her in the corner. Clearly hurt, she keeps her guard tightly in front of her face. This provides the perfect opportunity for Lily to go back to the body, which she does with a barrage of punches that ends with a big shot to the liver! Erin’s body tenses up and then she falls down to her knees! Lily quickly steps away and walks over to the neutral corner as Amy watches on with a worried look on her face. 1…2…3… Erin is still on her knees, looking down to the canvas with her arms covering her midsection 4…5…6… still looking down, she shakes her head as if to signal that she can’t get up 7…8… she finally raises her head and a few tears can be seen streaming down her face 9…10 she cannot get up as the count passes her by!
Official Result: Winner via KO5, Lily James!
Post-Fight: Lily celebrates with a fist pump as she is clearly happy and relieved with her comeback victory. She keeps her celebration short and tame though, as she goes over to check on Erin, who needs a moment before she is ready to get back up. When she is ready, Lily and Angelica, who also arrived at the scene, help Erin back to her feet. They both tell her that she fought well and encourage her to keep working hard. As the younger Willerton steps down from the ring, her older sister comes over and gives her a long hug as she consoles her.
After getting her hand raised, Lily takes the microphone for her post-fight remarks. “It was a great fight and Erin showed that she is not a pushover. She even demonstrated that stopping power behind her punches, but I’m glad that I was able to come back from that knock down and win it in the next round. It is not always easy to deal with these models and their reach, but I think I’m getting pretty good at it. That being said, there is still a lot of room for improvement and I’ll work hard to keep getting better.”
Lily James’ comeback victory keeps the League of Mighty Women’s winning streak alive on their opening night, which comes at the expense of a double victory for the Willerton sisters.
