TESS VALMORE
There were only two title fights in the December PPV. Taylor Hill successfully defended her lightweight title, while Adrianne Palicki ended Jennifer Lawrence’s short reign at welter. The flyweight and bantam titles were defended in recent stable PPV’s
In the welters there were only two fights. Righetti beat Regan and Rhoda defeated Brook. Tahnee Atkinson and Hannah Ferguson are fighting on New Years eve. It’s the same old story. The top eight rule. Every one else is cannon-fodder.
There will be a welter “tournament’ starting in January. There will be some good fights, but I seriously doubt it will change anything. I’ll have more to say at that time
In the lightweights, Jenner should be in line for a title shot with her win over Strahovski. That ended Yvonne’s chances for now. Teles in her upset over Lipa should not only eliminate Lipa from a title shot, but possibly out of the top twenty. Swift’s win over Kroes will gain her nothing and the same goes for DiDonato’s gimme fight with Gadot. That said, Hill is going to have to deal with DiDonato, Jenner and Swift, anyone of which have the ability to end her reign. While not getting in a spot for a title shot, Lively’s win over Ambrosio will move her up in the rankings and probably hasten Ambrosio’s decision to retire.
In the bantams, Thorne has already eliminated Dobrev and Olsen in conventional fights and Kosarin at JMD. That would leave Minka Kelly and Kaya Scodelario both of whom won on the December card. Both of them however, have lost to Thorne. The big win of the night went to Naomi Scott who pulled a big upset beating Evangeline Lilly. Scott was already in the top ten. She may be the choice for Thorne. Larson was another top ten fighter who won, but she waisted her time in beating Pausini. I would be remiss if I didn’t call attention to Jenny McCarthy’s win over Beckinsale in bout two of five. That loss put a dent in Beckinsale drive to the Hall Of Fame. Every McCarthy win makes it a little harder and a little later for her in getting into the Hall.
There were six flyweight fights, but the only one of top ten importance was Lowndes/Hudgens. While the fighters and/or their managers will disagree, in the overall the others bouts were fill in fights.
There was only one cougar bout, but eight cougars were in action
