TESS VALMORE
The November PPV was a huge 41 fight card, not including the retro bouts. There were two title fights with Lilly Collins and Taylor Hill successfully defending their titles. Jennifer Lawrence, who won her title in the September PPV, was nowhere to be seen. She did have a non-title fight in October, but that does not satisfy the rule. The Commissioner has already taken action and has stripped Lawrence of her title. The next champion is usually determined by a tournament, but we just have to wait and see how he is going to handle how the next champion will be determined
In the Welters, outside of the title fight, most of the top eight were in action, but the only fight of title fight implications was Palicki/Kostek Palicki’s win should bring her back towards the top of the contender’s list. Rhoda, Upton Decker, and Righetti had gifts of cannon-fodder that did nothing to help their standings other than they won.
The lightweights were in about the same position as the welters. The only fight that would change the standings significantly was Lipa/Peregrym. Lipa’s win should get the attention of the champ. Taylor Swift beat Huntington-Whiteley but will do nothing for her. Now, I admit I have been wrong a time or thirty, but I think Huntington-Whiteley is a flash in the pan. Two of the top relatively newcomers went down to defeat. Gerber lost to Rohrbach and Teles lost to Mary Elizabeth Winstead. There were two upsets in the lightweights. Zendaya Coleman beat Georgia Mae Gibbs and Amber Heard KOed Odette Yustman.
The big fight in the bantams that could significantly change the standings was Kosarin’s win over Dennings. Dennings, in her loss, can most probably kiss a title shot goodbye. The top young bantam Naomi Scott went down to the punching of Demi Rose, but that changes nothing as Rose was the number one contender. Rose, however, is going to have to wait. The champ, Bella Thorne will defend her title against Chloe Bennet in the December Dollhouse event
The big news in the flyweights is that Megan Fox took another big step towards the Hall Of Fame by beating Hall Of Fame member Sarah Carter. It was Fox’s ninety-third bout. I suspect she is on track to enter the Hall Of Fame in the summer of next year. She might have to wait for a title match. There nothing a champ would like more than beating a new Hall Of Fame member. Natalie Portman won in the big flyweight bout that pushes Watson to the back of the title bout line. Doesn’t help Portman as she just lost the title. Of course, this review would not be complete without acknowledging Jenny Mac’s big win. I was in Charlize’s dressing room at the time, watching on TV. Charlize commented “If she can still win, maybe I do have a couple more years”
Cougars were involved more than ever, There were four cougar fights, not including Patton/Heigl, who have not yet appeared in an official cougar fight. In all, sixteen cougars were involved in the card. Some are being used as go to opponents, but they and the likes of Theron, Garner, Landry, Ryan. Lilly or Liu built the FCBA. All the younger fighters are indebted to the fighters of 1999-2001. Without them, they would probably be making extra money as cocktail waitresses. Nothing wrong with that. Reminds me, It’s time for my Dark & Stormy
