BEFORE:
"It's nice to be back," says Anna with a smile. "Especially when no one expects anything out of me. I'll just go in there and have fun. And, maybe surprise a whole lot of folks."
"Look, she's no one to mess around with. She gave problems to Jane and Jennette, and they both have a lot more experience than me. I've got to be on my game. And, I will be."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Bad Things' by Jace Everett, and here comes the star of 'True Blood', Anna Paquin..."
McCarthy: "Who remains the Dancing Hookerest of all Typical Dancing Hooker opponents! They trot her out here to rent a win, especially when one of their failed flyweights NEEDS one. Like the LAST one she fought here, who got kicked to the curb!"
Cassie: "Meg isn't getting kicked ANYWHERE, as Uncle Wiz has stated repeatedly..."
McCarthy: "Shouldn't you be getting ready for Snow?"
Cassie: "Shouldn't YOU be getting ready for Mac The Knife?"
McCarthy: "I DON'T HAVE TO GET READY FOR MAC THE KNIFE BECAUSE I AM MAC THE KNIFE AND SHE IS A FRAUD AND I AM GOING TO KNOCK HER INTO NEXT WEEK!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Now, calm DOWN, Mac and let's keep our eyes on the ring where Anna is helped off with the robe to reveal that blue and white checked number we've seen before and that's 'BAAM' you hear banging through the arena and that can only mean the singer of that tune, 'The Peapack Punisher', Meg Donnelly is heading to the ring..."
Tess: "Donnelly coming off her first loss as a member of Front Street, but still definitely has the confidence of management."
Cassie: "No doubt about it."
O'Dell: "Meg into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that yellow number we've seen before, and the ladies are about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Meg. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Dancing Hookerest! Donnelly!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Unanimous to start the night. Ladies quickly set up to do some boxing. Both blondes getting the hands out and back quickly, both showing some skill. No surprise there, as we've seen it before from both fighters and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND FROM ANNA AND MEG IS HURT!"
McCarthy: "What a maroon! She walked right INTO that..."
O'Dell: "More like Anna set that up perfectly, but either way, Meg is hurt and in big trouble as Paquin gets off with both hands, backing the younger blonde into the ropes and letting her have it. Ref looking in, Donnelly taking some serious fire and GOING DOWN AFTER A RIGHT HOOK!"
McCarthy: "This is a DISASTER for Weirdo! This girl is going to go down in history like Jamie Lynn Spears!"
O'Dell: "Anna to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Six. Meg to her feet at seven. Going to take the mandatory..."
Cassie: "Not sure the ref is going to let this continue..."
Tess: "Not sure he SHOULD let it continue..."
O'Dell: "He's going to. He waives on Anna, who's again letting the hands go, backing up Meg, landing some hard shot, but, there's the bell. Huge opener for Paquin, who takes a 10-8 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second starts with Anna backing up Meg, who's still wobbly-legged from the last round. Paquin working hard but smart right now, not getting sloppy, setting up hard right hands with good left jabs. Donnelly giving ground, covering up, playing for time right now."
McCarthy: "Just a DISASTER for Weirdo! If he were smart, he'd clear out this entire flyweight division and just push Stewart!"
Tess: "WATCH it..."
Cassie: "Let her TALK, BFF. Might be she won't be ABLE to before the night's over..."
McCarthy: "THE ONLY ONE WHO'LL BE SHUTTING MOUTHS AROUND HERE WILL BE ME!"
O'Dell: "No, calm DOWN Mac and let's keep our eyes on the ring. Donnelly countering in spots now. Legs still iffy, but she's got enough under her to get a little offense going, anyway. Anna, though, calling the tune right now, no doubt about that. She's pressing the advantage."
Cassie: "And continuing to be sound doing so."
O'Dell: "Down to the final seconds in the second. It's been mostly Paquin in this stanza, and it doesn't look like that's going to change. Meg tying up the older woman now. Ref going to get in there and break them apart and there's the bell. No doubt about this one. Paquin and wide."
Tess: "And, Anna out to a big 20-17 lead."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Anna in control as we start the third. Paquin has been, pretty much, cleaning up since that hard right hand in the first. Donnelly still a little unsure of the legs. She's jabbing back here and there, even landing in combination once in a while, but she's mostly on the defensive as she has been almost the entire fight..."
Tess: "I'm frankly surprised she's made it this far. Didn't look like she'd get out of the first..."
McCarthy: "Oh, Weirdo has bought and paid for this referee. You're never going to get a break against one of HIS girls in Philly!"
O'Dell: "Sharp exchange there and Meg landed a good right, which was her best punch of the fight by far, but Paquin quickly gets her back on the defensive. Donnelly tying up again in there, still playing for time. She's recovering, it seems like, but still not all the way back."
Cassie: "As Tess said, Meg's done well to survive this. She's got time to get back in the fight..."
O'Dell: "Not a lot of time left in the third, though. Anna's had the better of it the entire way. Meg showing some fight. landing the odd good punch, but unable to do much more than that. Another sharp exchange there, and there's the bell. No doubt about it. Paquin wide again."
McCarthy: "30-26, Paquin. If this mythical comeback is going to happen, it had better start soon!"
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Paquin pressing the issue early. Again, Meg giving ground. She's countering more now, getting some good leather home, but still not stabilizing her front and stopping the Canadian's offensive, and, as long as she's not able to do that, it's going to be difficult to win rounds..."
Cassie: "Definitely going to have to stick her foot in the ground at some point."
O'Dell: "And, right on cue, Donnelly starting to do that. She's banging back hard now, holding her canvas. Paquin keeping up the pressure briefly, but now going to go back to range and box. No sense in pushing too hard at this point, I would suspect. What do you think, Mac?"
McCarthy: "I think you're exactly right. She's in command of the fight. Box with now."
O'Dell: "And, that's what Anna's doing. Thing is, Meg's doing pretty well on these terms. She's beating the older woman to punches right now, getting off in combination, and generally looking the best she has the entire fight as the bell rings ending the fourth. Very close. Anna early. Meg late. Nothing in it. Even round."
Tess: "And, Paquin still has that big four-point lead, 40-36."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Back to boxing in the fifth. Blondes at range. Both, again, showing plenty of skill on these terms. Younger blonde a little quicker, but Paquin maybe a little slicker here, slipping punches better, setting things up a little better. Result is some pretty good two-way stuff..."
McCarthy: "Problem is, the Dancing Hooker can't afford to be fighting on even terms, because she's down four points!"
O'Dell: "Meg looking unhurried, though. She's not pressing the issue. She IS, however, getting into a rhythm for the first time tonight, and she's starting to get the better of things despite the best efforts of the Canadian blonde. Anna still getting work done, mind, but Meg getting a bit MORE done..."
Tess: "Donnelly looking pretty relaxed right now. Taking what Anna gives her and what she can create."
O'Dell: "Definitely not forcing a thing. We're coming down the stretch in the fifth. Donnelly a good combination. Anna fires back with one of her own. Not a ton in it, but it's the younger blonde who has the edge and she'll take that right to the bell. Close, but Meg finally on the board."
Cassie: "But, still down 49-46."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "More two-way boxing as we start the second half of this one. Blondes both looking comfortable and confident on these terms. GOOD right hand there from Meg and a nice rejoinder from Anna. Paquin is, frankly, looking as good as we've seen her in this one..."
McCarthy: "Put that down to the level of opposition. A typical failed Front Street flyweight. If it weren't for Stewart, Weirdo would have probably quit on that division like he did welter!"
Cassie: "I'm SO going to enjoy Kennedy kicking your..."
O'Dell: "ANNNNNNDDDD there's a nice exchange with both ladies landing sharp right hands. Plenty of aggression going on in there, but nobody getting sloppy, nobody pressing the issue. Instead, both fighters boxing smartly, scoring points, putting punches together well..."
Tess: "At some point, Donnelly might have to show some urgency. But, not yet."
O'Dell: "Not at the moment. Instead, ladies content to box and doing so well. ANOTHER nice exchange there, with both blondes landing some good shot. Again, not a lot in it as we approach the bell. One more exchange and there it is. Close again to Donnelly, and she's cut Anna's lead to 58-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Pattern set in this one. Ladies want to box at range, and that's exactly what they're doing. And, once again, both blondes doing very well on these terms, which is almost certainly why both are content with them. Nice exchange there, both women scoring with right hands."
Tess: "Nobody rushing anything, but both women working hard."
O'Dell: "No question about it. Lots of leather being exchanged, everybody busy, nobody coasting. Good right hand from Anna right there, follows up with a quick flurry and Meg responds and HURTS ANNA WITH A RIGHT HAND! Paquin staggered and DROPPED WITH A RIGHT HOOK!"
McCarthy: "LUCKY PUNCH!"
O'Dell: "Paquin down on her right side as Meg heads to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Anna rolling to her belly, reaching for the bottom rope. Six. Seven. Eight. Paquin trying to pull herself up, but the legs can't support her! Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO2 is 'The Peapack Punisher', Meg Donnelly!"
Cassie: "Nice comeback. Nice comeback."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Meg Donnelly, and, Meg, not a good start tonight..."
Meg (shaking her head): "Just got caught with one. She surprised me with it. Good stuff on her part, but my fault, too."
Tess: "But, you came back strong, worked back into the fight, and got the win..."
Meg (nodding): "Yeah. Jewel kept telling me it wasn't over, that if I just went out and executed the fight plan, I'd win. So, that's what I did."
