Intro:
A home coming for Eiza Gonzalez as she heads to the Mexico City Arena, taking on Cara Delevingne tonight, will be prove to be a fairy tale ending for Eiza or will Cara put a dark cloud over Gonzalez?
Their form coming into the fight has been polar opposites, Eiza has struggled to get a win this year, while Cara has only lost once though that was to Miranda Kerr last month in the BBU for the lightweight title there.
Coming into the bout they were both interviewed by Alicia Atout on the way into the arena, Eiza being stopped as she carries her bags, looking at Alicia with a roll of her eyes before she stays to talk to her.
"Look Alicia no offence but I have things to do, this fight means so much to me, I get to fight in front of not just my fellow country men and women, my friends and family will be ringside willing me on" says Eiza as she narrows her eyes while looking at the interviewer.
"Once I deal with Cara you and the people in the crowd will hear from me" adds the local lass, who then storms past Atout so she can head off to her locker room to get ready.
While when Cara arrives, she looks in a much more friendly mood with her best friend Suki Waterhouse beside her, both have an arm around the others waist as they stop to talk to Alicia.
"Hey Alicia, it is so beautiful here, though I know that I am not going to be made welcome in the ring tonight, what's new?" Says Cara as she smiles at Suki, both giggle as they seem to have an inside joke.
Looking back at Alicia, Cara continues "I have to say I don't understand Eiza, she tests herself against some real elite fighters, never once does she really test them though, so if I make light work of her then surely I've finally found that next level" adds the English model as Suki nods in agreement with her best friend.
"Totally right Cara, I mean hell I'd fancy beating her and my career isn't quite as good as yours" Suki says as Cara looks to be biting her tongue on that matter, Suki still looking for a win herself, instead both kiss Alicia on each cheek at the same time before leaving with a giggle.
Fighting time; out first comes Eiza with her coach Kelly Carlson beside her, she raises her fists into the air as the crowd chants her name, heading down to the ring, Eiza high fives several people in the front row before hugging them as they are her family.
Eiza is wearing a Mexican flag bikini top, green bottoms to match her gloves, her hair is tied back into a ponytail, stepping into the ring she blows kisses to the crowd, heading to her corner so she can warm up after taking a deep breath.
Cara now heads out with her coach and Suki behind her, the crowd understandably are booing her as she heads down the aisle, a more serious looking Cara as she jogs down to the ring.
She is wearing a st George's cross pattern bikini top, a white bikini bottom, red gloves, while her hair is also tied back into a ponytail too as she gets into the ring, eyeing up her opponent as she stretches in her corner.
Brought to the ring center by the referee, the fighters eye each other up as Eiza tells Cara "this is my house bytch" Cara not replying as she just stares daggers back at her as the referee stays between them.
Banging their gloves into their opponent's set, they turn back to their corners, the referee is happy everything is set, orders the bell to be rung to start 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Round 1:
Trading single punches to start off as the crowd are yelling for their hero to knock Cara's block off, she though seems to realise that might not be the smartest thing to do out the gates with Cara's counter punching style.
An opening presents itself when Eiza feints with a jab before stepping to the left of her opponent to throw a right hook around her guard, slamming into the cheek of the English lass to turn her head.
Suddenly the floodgates open as Gonzalez tries to give the crowd what they want, slamming another three punches right into the face of Delevingne, knocking her towards the ropes to a loud roar of approval from her fans.
Herded along the ropes, Cara is struggling to do much more then protect herself, most punches landing on her forearms as Eiza tries to break her way through to her face, swinging in more hooks when going up the middle doesn't work.
Giving Eiza a quick shove to the chest, Cara comes firing back with a right cross to the jaw of the Mexican fighter, a left hook turns Gonzalez's head as she finds herself being driven back now across the ring to boos.
The round ends soon after with Cara thudding her gloves together, angry at herself for starting so slowly, Suki sponges her brow as her coach tells her to be more proactive before they have to pick her off the canvas.
Round 2:
Doing as told by her coach, Cara is throwing more punches to try to keep from being swarmed as easily, the fighters slam shots into the others beautiful faces, knocking back heads as they go toe to toe.
The extra power seems to be on the side of Eiza as she starts to win the exchanges, knocking back Cara with a jab/right cross combo that has Kelly applauding her and heard saying "that's it" about her fighter.
But when Eiza tries to land a big right cross, Cara dips under it to land an overhand left to the jaw, followed by an uppercut that sends Gonzalez reeling backwards, Delevingne quick to now start crowding the crowd favourite.
Who now finds herself muscled to the ropes, Cara mixing up her punches to keep Eiza from easily protecting herself, getting grunts and groans from the Odds & Ends fighter as she looks furious at the tables being turned on her.
Spotting an opening to fire back, Eiza lands a straight onto the nose of Cara, landing a left cross after to force Delevingne to back off, leading to a heated exchange of fists at the center of the ring as Eiza shows she is here to go full on and not hold back.
The round comes to an end with both women holding their hands up to show they won't sneak in a quick one, eyes locked as they seem to be driven to win this fight more then they normally would.
Round 3:
Bouncing on her toes again after getting in a solid round, Cara is throwing more straight punches at the head of her opponent, moving back when Eiza comes looking to take the fight to her.
Deflecting a jab allows Eiza to step inside with a left cross to the cheek of Cara, a straight of her own pushes back the English model as she takes the ring center, helping her to cut off avenues for Delevingne to escape into.
Both women trade hard punches into face, it is Gonzalez though controlling the tempo as she keeps drilling Delevingne into her face to knock her back a step, soon busting the bottom lip of Cara.
Who after two minutes of being kept near the ropes, is able to duck a left hook then counter with an uppercut that knocks back Eiza to her heels, momentum switches around as Cara backs up the Latin blooded fighter across the ring.
Ending up clinched up in the final moments of the round, they are digging punches into each others kidneys, trying to power their opponent back as the referee has to pull them apart.
After they are separated it isn't long till the bell rings to end the round, the fighters jog back to their corners with both women locking eyes across the ring, Kelly telling Eiza to keep on top of things, Eiza nodding as she thuds her gloves together.
Round 4:
Letting Eiza come at her, Cara shows off more of her counter punching skills in the early going, slipping punches aimed at her head to land her own to the cheeks of Gonzalez to make her look annoyed.
Eiza lands a hard straight to the mouth of Cara to slow her down, pressing her backwards with another jab/straight combo as she looks to take control of this round, the crowd firmly chanting her name.
But it isn't long till she misses with a left hook as Cara slips under it, an uppercut snaps back the head of Eiza, who now finds herself being driven back as punches slam through her mitts into her face.
Ending up in a corner, Eiza finds her abs being worked over as she tries to block punches up top, grunting with each clean hit till she can start trying to fight her way back out, landing some hard punches out her guard.
Cara though is firmly controlling things, using nudges with her left forearm to stop her opponent getting off the ropes, while bashing her with cross punches when the opening presents itself.
When the bell rings the fighters share a hard look before they turn to their corners, things seem to be evened up again as nobody can seem to keep their foothold in the fight, coaches working hard to keep their fighters on top as they patch them up.
Round 5:
Sticking to her game plan, Cara is like a matador in the early going, frustrating Eiza with her movement before countering her with cross punches and uppercuts that are knocking the head around of the tough Eiza.
Sending Eiza back onto the ropes with an uppercut/left cross combo, Cara looks to be back firm in control again, hooking the body of Gonzalez to make her hiss out, a grimace on the Mexican fighters face.
Trying to slug her way back into this allows Eiza to get off the ropes, the hooks to the cheeks of Cara make her retreat to range as on comes Eiza, it isn't long till she makes another mistake though with a missed right cross.
That ends up costing Eiza as two piston like body shots are followed with an overhand right to her face, Eiza's left cheek is starting to swell as she is backed up to the ropes, shielding herself from the onslaught coming from Cara.
Pulling Cara into a clinch, Eiza can be seem gritting her gumshield to not scream out in fury at what is happening, the referee needed to break them apart as they grind bodies while digging their feet into the canvas.
The final moments of the round sees Eiza being kept at range till the bell rings, Kelly gives Eiza a firm talking to as she returns to her corner, asking where her pride is, making Eiza stare down at the canvas before looking up angry at the assertion.
Across the ring Cara is getting a shoulder rub from Suki, her coach is praising her but reminding her not to sleep on Eiza, Cara nods as she stands up ready to get back to work.
Round 6:
Looking more determined not to make a mistake, Eiza is throwing more probing punches to get the range down, causing a slower start to this round that has the fans wanting more from their hero.
Cara goes to dip down to land an uppercut, Eiza beats her to the punch with a right cross that smacks her on the temple, making Delevingne stumble a step to the right, her eyes go wide as she knows something isn't quite right.
It is noticed by Eiza as she piles the pressure onto Cara, bashing her with straight punches to her face, knocking back the Brit towards a corner as Cara's guard isn't what it was.
Pulling desperately Eiza into a clinch, Cara is blinking to try to clear the cobwebs, Eiza digging in her right into the kidneys of Cara till the referee can forcefully break them apart, Cara moving to range as she looks to reestablish her counter punching.
Instead she is still eating punches more then she'd like to the face, being knocked around by the older fighter as the chants ring out for Gonzalez, blood runs down the chin of Cara onto her boobs as she is being pounded.
The round comes to a close with a shutout for Eiza, who raises her bloodstained gloves to the crowd to a loud roar, Cara shaking her head as she returns to her corner, assuring Suki she'll be OK as her coach patches her up.
Round 7:
Cara doesn't look right still as she heads out, not much spring to her step as Eiza closes the distance on her fast, both letting their hands go as they look to hurt the other quickly, sweat and blood flying into the air.
A right hook turns Cara's head, a left then sends her reeling backwards as her legs are starting to go under her, AN UPPERCUT LANDS FLUSH ON CARA'S CHIN, THAT SEEMS TO BE THE TRIGGER AS CARA FALLS FACE DOWN!
Eiza raises her arms in the air as she stares down at Cara with contempt, then jogs to the neutral corner, 1...2...3...4.. Cara is groaning but not moving, 5...6...7.. Suki has covered her eyes as she can't watch, 8...9...10 Delevingne is counted out!
Winner Eiza Gonzalez KO Round 7
After:
This might be the highlight of Eiza's career, she looks to the heavens as she pumps her arms into the air, the crowd erupting in loud cheers as she wins in front of her countrymen and women, along with her family.
Kelly rushes into the ring with a Mexico flag, draping it over the shoulders of Eiza as she blows kisses to her fans, tears running down her face as this win was more important then just improving her record, tonight was about proving herself to her country.
Someone else crying is Suki as she steps into the ring, kneeling next to the coach of Cara as the beaten fighter is safely turned to her side, with help Cara sits up rubbing her jaw as she admits she got hit with a peach of a punch.
Suki helps Cara up with the coach, all of them look over to see Eiza mounting her corner with the flag over her head, Suki can be seen mouthing "bytch" towards the winner as Cara looks down disappointed she couldn't get the win tonight.
Getting a drink and a towel to wipe her tears away, Eiza thanks Kelly for giving her the kick up her backside she firmly needed to win this fight, that extra motivation giving her the extra charge to go for it.
Out the ring heads Cara with Suki's help, the head of Cara is down as this will be a result that will sting for a while it seems, Cara did well through the middle rounds but couldn't keep on top of her opponent tonight.
In the ring the party starts as Eiza is handed a champagne bottle that she takes a drink from, jokingly she pours some over the head of Kelly, who takes it in good spirits now but might have a word later judging how her top looks ruined.
Getting handed a microphone, Eiza tells the crowd in her native language "I want to tell you all thank you for your support tonight, I love everyone of you and tonight was a taste of what is to come from me, I'm going to the top!" That gets a chant for her to be the champion.
Maybe too early for that talk, tonight was a great win for Eiza over one of the hottest fighters in the lightweight division, that streak is done though thanks to Eiza, who looks like she'll be partying the night away as she leaves the ring with Kelly, the flag and the champagne bottle.
