Intro:
It's rare to see two fighters from the same stable fight, well we get an interstable battle tonight as Copacabana Beach sees two Lioness club fighters unleash their claws on each other.
Karolina Kurkova and Sandra Kubicka meet for the first time in the ring, though it is funny how things change in a month, only on the FNL card both got to the semi finals of the first ever European Cup tournament.
In said tournament Sandra was so close to beating Doutzen Kroes, while Karolina nearly stopped the eventual tournament winner Cara Delevingne but couldn't land that knockout punch, arguably this is a third place bout that has waited a month.
To add more intrigue thanks to the tournament Sandra's performance was so good that the Lioness Club signed her the next morning after the card, Karolina wasn't supposed to be happy about that.
With the Czech model telling interviewer Alicia Atout before the fight at the private gym the Lionesses have hired for the week "this is my welcoming party for Sandra, I know she has been on my stables radar awhile, the thing is though I hope she understands on the European wing of our stable, I am the top bytch, seeing her strut around the gym the Monday after the tournament made me realise I need to give her a reality check"
When asked does she feel threatened by Sandra being added to the stable, Karolina gives Alicia a look that could kill, replying "no I don't feel threatened by her, I told Melanie and Mr V that I wanted to fight her, if I felt threatened by her trust me this fight wouldn't be happening here, I'd have challenged Sandra in the stable locker room with the other girls around, Sandra would have been photographed running out the gym in just torn underwear with her clothes in her hand" that gives Karolina an evil grin at the thought.
She finishes by saying "no this us simply about pecking orders, you know the Lionesses run by the code of if you are not the alpha then you are not worth being the face of the stable, I've been the alpha since day one, Sandra will know what that means very soon"
Sandra looks in a good mood when the microphone is put in front of her as she sits on her bed with Joy Corrigan and Ewelina Lisowska in her hotel room where she is getting her hands wrapped by Ewelina.
Asked about her feelings towards Karolina, Sandra answers "I wouldn't say I dislike her" with Joy butting in with "you are not best friends either" getting a laugh from the young trio.
"I can't disagree with that, Karolina has been defensive around me since we joined, hell our first sparring session we had to be pulled apart because she took liberties on me" says the Polish stunner as the other two nod.
Joy butts in again to tell Alicia "you have to understand Karolina is one of the old school Lionesses, when she stepped into that stable she was the fresh faced fighter, hell when I joined the stable she slapped me after our first sparring because she felt I was trying to show her up, it's all about respect with her and Sandra will need to beat it into Karolina"
Now it's Ewelina's turn to say something, she tells Alicia "Joy is right but I have full faith in Sandra, don't think this will be sparring, if Karolina tries to sneak in a low blow or some cheap shot I can promise you she will get hurt by Sandra's fists" with Sandra fist bumping her friend, while Joy gives her the thumbs up.
As with all fights tonight there is no outside crowd, though for this fight there are two special guests, Melanie Brown and Kate Garraway are both sitting on chairs opposite each other, not that the coach and director of communications of the Lioness Club have fallen out, it seems they don't want to show bias to either fighter and maybe for once get a good scouting on both fighters to see what needs to be improved.
The ring posts are set into the beach itself, with a judges table nearby and cameras on top of each post to give the fans around the world an up close few of the fighters in the corners, while two cameramen will record the footage around the ring.
Out first comes Karolina, she has stalwart of the stable Christine Bleakley beside her, Karolina nods to Melanie and Kate before she steps through the ropes.
The Czech fighter is wearing a yellow bikini with red trim, her gloves are red as her hair is tied back into a ponytail for tonight, Christine tells Karolina to show Sandra whose the alpha of the group.
Sandra now heads onto the beach with Ewelina working her corner, both Poles stare hard into the ring at their opposite numbers, stepping through the ropes with tension clear for everyone to see.
Sandra is wearing a white bikini with black trim, black gloves, while her hair is tied back into a braid, Ewelina is giving her friend a pep talk as Sandra gives her a fist bump in reply.
The referee brings the two fighters together at the center of the ring, straight away they bump chests as the referee has to break them apart, Karolina telling Sandra "I'm going to take your bikini after I knock you out bytch, put it on my locker door at the gym to remind you..." Sandra interrupts with a slap with her right glove.
All hell is about to break loose if not for Mel standing up and yelling at both to calm down, her commending voice stops the gloves coming off and this descending into anarchy.
Instead they sneer at their rival before returning to their corners, no touch of gloves showing this won't be a friendly sparring kind of fight, once back in their corners, the bell rings to stand 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Round 1:
Kicking off the fight exchanging jabs in the first twenty seconds, it isn't long till both swing a big hook in that the other just about steps out the way of.
Karolina tries to go for a left hook that Sandra leans out the way of, the younger fighter hammering a jab/straight back into the face of the Czech to back her up.
It seems that Sandra has come out the blocks the faster, while she takes a few punches to her beautiful face, Sandra is landing more punches in bunches as she moves around Kurkova.
The veteran trying to cut off the ring, Sandra keeps slipping under her hooks though to get back into space when it looks like she is in trouble, making Karolina bang her gloves together to show her annoyance.
In the final moments of the round Karolina switches things up a little, using her left shoulder to bump back Kubicka, she pounds two rights across the face of the younger woman.
Backing Sandra towards the ropes as both let their hands go on the inside, the bell rings and both break apart, though the look they give each other is cold.
Round 2:
Realising she needs to be more proactive, Karolina comes hunting after Sandra with her jab doubled up, while she doesn't always land with the jab, Karolina is starting to get her right into play more now.
Forcing Sandra around the outside of the ring, Karolina is looking more comfortable, though she still takes several two or three punch combos into her face, Karolina for the most part is keeping the range where she wants it.
Especially when she steps back to dodge a left cross, Karolina pounds a right into the mouth of Sandra, followed by a left hook to her jaw to turn the head of her stunning fellow model.
Going more into her shell, Sandra is only really pumping out single punches as she moves side to side, Karolina doing a good job boxing her in near the ropes.
With just under thirty seconds to go, Karolina misses with a straight and pays for it with an uppercut that knocks her head back, Sandra switches on her power punching to drive back the veteran across the ring.
The bell rings not long after though to end proceedings for now, Sandra nods to Ewelina as her fellow Pole tells her what she needs to improve upon, across the ring Christine simply praises the work of Karolina.
Round 3:
Moving more side to side to start, Sandra jabs the cheeks of Karolina, she almost looks like a matador when she starts dodging shots and lands counters.
Karolina lands a crisp double jab to the left cheek of Sandra, just missing with a right hook as the younger fighter leans out the way in time before hammering her right into the mouth of Kurkova.
When Sandra can find room she is boxing beautifully, smacking Karolina square into her face to give her fellow beauty a hard time, she even switches to the body when she gets the openings.
The problems are when Karolina can crowd her into a corner or against the ropes, the stronger fighter seems to be Karolina, with her digging away at the body of Kubicka, trying to take the spring out of her step.
Late in the round Sandra lands a double jab into the mouth of Karolina, then sidesteps her when she swings in a right cross, landing one of her own to the left ear of the Czech fighter to knock some sweat off her.
Soon enough the round comes to an end, Sandra gets a high five from Ewelina, who tells her that was beautiful work in there this round.
Across the ring Karolina takes a sip of water as Christine tells her to keep her cool, Karolina nods as she stands back up for the next round, her eyes locked firmly on her opponent as she looks really up for this.
Round 4:
Letting their hands go more as they move around the ring, Sandra continues early on to rely on her speed with her head movement to give the veteran problems.
Karolina starts to read Sandra's movements, leading to a straight smacking Sandra on her nose, followed by a left hook to the side of her head go knock back Sandra.
The powerful Czech now begins backing up Sandra to the ropes, hammering in hooks under the ribs of Kubicka to make her hiss out, Sandra clinching up with Karolina to force the referee to break them apart.
But Sandra can't keep Karolina too far off her, Kurkova now pushing the tempo of the fight, leading to more slugging exchanges that sees sweat flying off both women.
After a left/right cross smacks Sandra firmly across her face, Sandra covers up as she finds herself backed into a corner, Karolina doing nicely to switch up her punches, giving Sandra a headache of where to block the shots.
The round ends with Karolina jogging to her corner, Christine all smiles as she gives Karolina a thumbs up, though both know they need to keep on top of Sandra or let the dynamo get going.
Round 5:
Keeping on the front foot, Karolina catches Sandra to her nose with a straight early on, a left cross following to knock back the Polish fighter a step.
Controlling that center of the ring, Karolina is drilling punches into the cheeks of Sandra when she can get past her guard, keeping the younger fighter in front of her as she turns with Kubicka.
Who slips under a straight to bang in two left hooks to the body, Sandra grazes the chin of Karolina with an uppercut, it makes Kurkova take a step back though, giving Sandra an opening to step in closer to work.
Nudging back Sandra with her left shoulder, Karolina lands a left/right cross combo to the cheeks of Sandra, before she can push her advantage though she takes a straight onto her nose.
Back and forth goes the action as both let their fists go, nearly clashing heads when they go for a right cross at the same time, the bell rings to end the round with both stepping back with a hard look to their stablemate.
Once back to their corners both are sponged down, Karolina should be the happier as she seems to have had slightly more control of the fight, yet she can't seem to keep Sandra back off her for too long.
Round 6:
Boxing around the center of the ring, Karolina tries to get back control of that center with a jab/straight into the face of her opponent, she gets caught with a right across her face when she tries to push forwards.
The next time Karolina tries to push forwards, Sandra slips a jab before landing a right across the brow of Karolina, who grimaces as a small cut opens up where she was hit.
Throwing more punches into that cut, Sandra forces Karolina to try to shield it, but that opens up the veteran to left cross and hooks across her face to the joy of Ewelina jumping in her corner.
Throwing a double jab back into the face of Sandra, Karolina just misses with an uppercut as Sandra just steps out the way, the wounded Kurkova trying to fight her way back into contention in this round.
While Karolina lands some nice cross punches to make Sandra think about her attacks, when Kubicka finds a way to that cut it stops the older fighter in her tracks.
At the end of the round, Karolina looks to the sky and curses her luck, Christine having to work hard to patch up the cut, the ringside doctor comes to check on how it is looking.
Across the ring Ewelina is telling Sandra to keep the pain on Karolina, Sandra's expression says she doesn't need to be told that twice, her eyes locked coldly on Kurkova.
Round 7:
Trying to shield that cut as she comes out, Karolina is throwing more straights as she is trying to rely on counters, problem is Sandra is using more feints to open up the Czech fighter.
After landing a left hook to the ribs of Karolina, Sandra buries an uppercut through the guard of Kurkova to her chin, then quickly throws a right hook to that cut.
More blood flows from it as the referee is watching to see whether they should stop the action to let the doctor have a look at it, with Karolina being knocked back to the ropes.
A right hook slams into the ear of Karolina, who misses with a wild right hook as Sandra leans out the way, A RIGHT TO THE CHIN OPENS UP KAROLINA TO A LEFT/RIGHT HOOK COMBO, DOWN TO HER KNEES THEN ALL FOURS GOES KURKOVA!
Sandra smiles over at Ewelina as she jogs to the neutral corner, 1...2...3.. Some blood drips onto the sand from Karolina's cut, 4...5...6...7... When Karolina tries to get up, her legs look rubbery as she stumbles back down to her right side, 8...9...10 Kurkova is counted out!
Winner Sandra Kubicka KO Round 7
After:
What a year this is turning out to be for Sandra! She gets another win on the board and has proven that maybe she is the top European lightweight in the Lioness Club stable.
The winner staring at Karolina with a grin, Ewelina rushes in to hug her friend, with Sandra thanking her for having her back throughout this fight.
While Christine helps Karolina sit up, she works on patching that cut up, then washes down the face or the beaten fighter of sand and blood, Karolina looking gutted she lost this battle of stable superiority.
Mel and Kate both stand to applaud the effort of both fighters, a big smile on their faces as they clearly saw plenty they enjoyed from both fighters.
Though when they see that the girls still have a hard look for each other, Mel steps into the ring and waves the fighters to her, Karolina looks like she wants to say something before she realises looking at Mel's face this might not be the time for what's on her mind.
Instead Mel tells both to take their gloves off, their seconds help them do so, Mel continuing "OK we let you both fight it out to settle this grudge you both had, now when we return to the gym on Monday, I don't want this petty squabble to start again, shake hands now and let's bury this right here"
The former opponents look at each other with a hard stare, Mel again orders them to shake hands, Karolina is the one to raise her hand first, with Sandra grasping the offered hand, they shake but there is still a tenseness to it.
Karolina leaves the ring with Christine, Kate follows them off the beach as she talks to Karolina about the fight, full of praise for her even though Kurkova didn't get the win this time.
Back in the ring Mel fist bumps Sandra, telling her "now that's the fire we want from you in all your fights, you did great kid" getting a beaming smile from Sandra, who looks proud as punch she got praise from her new coach.
They leave together with Sandra heard telling Ewelina "I brought our favourite vodka to celebrate, drinks on me" making Ewelina look excited to rush back to the hotel.
