Charlize Theron vs. Katie Holmes (Cougar Bout)
BEFORE:
The GOAT making her debut in the Cougar ranks against a girl who's also been in the FCBA since that first year, Katie Holmes. Big difference between the pair is in the results, of course, with Theron now and forever the Greatest of All Time and Holmes having lost 40 of her 70 bouts. Still, Katie's showing no lack of confidence coming in. "Look," says the brunette, "We fought before and I took her the distance. And, she's had a lot of hard miles put on her since then. I can get her this time. And, I'm going to."
"Holmes is who she's always been, a disappointment," says Charlize. "There were always tools. There was always potential. She just never lived up to it. And, if she has any illusions of making some kind of statement tonight, well. I'll burst that bubble."
ROUND ONE:
Theron getting busy early. She has some reach and she's using it. She's getting that beautiful, long left jab in Katie's face, then following on with sharp right hands, tossing the brunette immediately to the defensive. Holmes quickly in retreat, and Theron gobbling up all the canvas Holmes is giving away. Brunette definitely surprised by the amount of early aggression here. She's been made uncomfortable, and the GOAT is not exactly breaking out the pillows and blankies in response. Instead, she's doubling down on the work effort, touching up the brunette to head and body, then touching a little rack, which puts some fire into Katie's eyes. Holmes begins winging back and actually catches the blonde a good one late in the round, but, when the bell rings, Theron's got it wide to lead 10-9.
ROUND TWO:
Holmes builds on the late aggression, angling forward and taking the fight to a surprised Charlize. Blonde trying to hold canvas, but instead EATING A RIGHT HAND! Theron staggered and Holmes all in! Brunette hammering away with both hands, looking to make the GOAT's Cougar debut an absolute disaster. She backs the blonde up, pins her to the ropes, then POUNDS away to head and body, digging shot into the midsection before buffeting the rack with a combination that forces the blonde to tie up. Katie stacks her and then RACKS her with another flurry to the bra cups! Theron now showing eyes of fire, grabs Holmes, wrestles around with her before the referee breaks. Staredown! Then bell and the ref leaps in between the fighters. Second round over. Holmes. Wide. And, we're even at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Both fighters, surprisingly, cautious to start the third. Charlize perhaps still dealing with somewhat balky legs. Holmes dealing with the knowledge that now might be a VERY bad time to give the blonde an opening. So. The brunette doesn't. She sets up at range and gets her box on. Theron is slow to respond, again, still dealing with those legs, but, eventually, she comes around and begins firing back. The boxing continues on even terms for a time, but, as we reach the late stages of the round, the blonde gets rolling, landing some nice combinations that throw Katie to the defensive. Theron now fighting lead. Holmes scoring in the counter. Blonde has too much ground to make up, though. Holmes' early efforts more than offset what CT can do late, so, when the bell rings, Katie's got the round close and is in the lead 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
More boxing. Holmes clever now, tucking the head, keeping the gloves high, looking to pick off Theron's jab then score in the counter. It's effective. To a point. Katie is able to land some nice, accurate shot off the blonde's offense. But. The GOAT didn't get to BE GOAT by not being able to find ways to get leather on target. She creates openings and wastes no time filling them with punches. She's not dominating Holmes by any stretch of the imagination, but she IS getting the better of things, slowly building up a lead, despite the brunette's work in counter. Down the stretch, Charlize keeps working, determined to make sure of the points. Holmes not taking chances, remaining on the counter to the bell. When it rings, the blonde has the stanza and we're even at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
Theron gets rolling. It happens all of a sudden. For half a minute, it's two-way boxing. Then, it isn't. The blonde begins putting things together...and then just keeps doing it. Brunette's quickly on the back foot, and covering up. And, then she's backing up. And, then she's trapped on the ropes with Theron having at her in a major way. Katie's not hurt, she's just being well and truly suppressed, as we get yet another demonstration of just what it is that made the GOAT the GOAT. It's both beautiful and frightening to behold, a fighter with the experience of Holmes being reduced to the kind of offense a tyro might be able to muster, tossing an odd jab out here and there, between big girl rallies by the blonde. When the bell, mercifully, rings, Holmes has blood trickling from the nose and Theron has the points wide and a 48-47 lead.
ROUND SIX:
Theron still rolling. It's all about the accuracy of, well, EVERYthing. Literally NOTHING is missing. Oh, Katie's blocking some stuff, but everything else? Landing. Solidly. Holmes looking almost helpless, to the point that the referee needs to think about doing something here, despite the fact that the brunette is not hur...BOOM! Straight right, Theron and DOWN GOES HOLMES! An absolute HEAT-SEEKER of a right hand DETONATES on Holmes jaw and Katie ragdolls to the canvas, crashing to her back and bouncing once before coming to rest. Oh. My. Charlize to a neutral corner to watch and wait, that familiar half-smile on her face. Holmes not moving at all as the numbers mount. It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 in devastating fashion is Charlize Theron!
AFTER:
CT all smiles in the post-fight. "Not sure if I'm at the point of doing ALL Cougar bouts," the blonde beauty says with a smile. "Because, I think I can still teach some of these kids some lessons. But. I think having some outings against girls closer to my own age might be fun. Tonight certainly was."
