Cassie Scerbo versus Rachael Leigh Cook
(Words: Bazz / Results: Lookout!)
Before: “Well, well, I finally get my shot at the Sharkando girl. I had hoped to hook up with her back when it was a real event to fight her. I mean today we’re watching a pretty decent slide down a pretty steep roller coaster. Sharkie’s just not what she used to be but still, when I get by her there’s still some cache left to not just be a weekend in the Poconos fighting a 60 year old ex-starlet. So with that being said I’m going to have some fun pushing this pugnacious bully around the ring for a while and then putting the notch in my belt. Cass I heard that this was the last Shark deal but who knows maybe you can get some work at Sea World.” Rachael Lee Cook goes all in on Cassie Scerbo taking shots at her fighting, acting and, if she had time, probably would have gone after her hair style.
“That’s real nice coming from the gal who brought us “Josie and the Pussycats”! I mean I’m having some fun making some TV movies and Josie goes after me with her Academy Award worthy performance as a pussy cat?” Scerbo starts shoveling it back as quick as it was unloaded on her. “So I’m just not sure that Josie should be hammering any of the fighters in this league on a quality of work basis. As for fighting in this league I’ve got a championship in this league with defenses to boot. Josie, you’ve just got to calm down because I’m going to bop you around the ring for a while and then put you down and when you finally wake up from getting lullabied your one pussycat that’s going to be in serious need of a veterinarian.”
Cassie Scerbo finishes her rebuke of Rachael Lee Cook without one reference to her real name and then marches off the podium. As with so many flyweight tilts the prefight comments end with a phalanx of burly security personnel forming a wall between the two fighters as they make their way to the ring, hurling insults for the entire walk.
Rachael looking taut and toned in a lime green bikini white gloves and boxing shoes. Cassie wearing a black bikini with black gloves and boxing boots. Both girls have their hair loose and tangly letting it go wild.
Rd 1 Both girls known for their quickness come out fast and begin hunting and pecking for any openings and weaknesses in their opponent’s defenses. Cassie moving from side to side using her jab to ward off Cook and scoring with a number of her early punching. Rachael throws a couple of combinations hitting up Scerbo to the body and working her way up to a head shot to finish the combo. Both girls are finding that they can score early and often. Cassie switches to a more aggressive mode of lunging in and out on Cook planting her left leg and jabbing and then occasionally surprising Rachael launching a right hand to the head or body. Rach is counter punching throwing rapid fire roundhouse right hands after dodging the Scerbo jabs. Cook breaks off for a second and calculates an angle on Scerbo finding a seam where she can score with her right hand. Cook scores several times bringing the crowd to her feet. She’s smart enough to stay away from Scerbo’s dangerous punching and take her turns at Cassie only when she sees a good opening. A good conservative approach and effective counter punching Win the round for Cook.
Rd 2 Scerbo, undeterred stays with her strategy of darting in on Cook, unleashing a flurry of damaging punches and slipping back out into space where Cook is just not quick enough to chase her. Cook has settled back waiting for Scerbo to move and slapping her with a jab and as many right hands as she can land. Scerbo skips in seeing a slight opening after Cook’s last counter punch. She lands a stiff arm left hand jab that knocks Rachael back and follows up with a right hand cross that whistles across Cook’s face just catching her chin. A stunned Cook chases Scerbo to try and land her own punches but Cassie is gone, back out to center ring to regroup. Cook can’t help but go on the offensive. She tries to corner Scerbo against the ropes slashing in with a blur of of lefts and rights. The Bazz girl reacts with a juke to the left and then sliding out sideways to her right. Cook continues her hunt. She’s looking for the angle she found in the first round where she found success against Scerbo’s speed. Cassie not giving Rach a whiff of fresh air. She’s backing up as Cook advances but momentarily stalling her retreat and throwing combinations to slow Rachael’s attack. The round ends with Scerbo taking control of the fight.
Rd 3 Neither fighter looks as if she has been hurt yet. They are at center ring jabbing away looking for openings, thinking of what to do next. Suddenly, in a blur Scerbo skips in planting her left leg and sends a short right cross connecting with Rachael’s chin. Crowd on its feet as Cassie bobs and weaves her way into Cook pushing her back against the ropes with a flurry of lefts and rights. Rach lands against the ropes with her dukes up around her face. Scerbo is in full attack mode. She goes to the body with a series of uppercuts. Cook, still in shock from the initial right hand is twisting and turning to avoid the punishment that Scerbo is dealing out. Cassie going for the kill but can’t quite close the door. Rach starts throwing some defensive punches countering the hard working Scerbo. The round ends with Cassie continuing to dominate the action.
Rd 4 The fight continues to go Cassie’s way. She’s finding a way to get right up into Rachael’s grill and then step away unharmed. The Bazzgirl seems to be just too quick for Rach. Cook doing her best to throw some counter punches but is just a step behind. Cassie tap dances just out of range and pushes her way in like a rude guest in a buffet line and touches up Rachael with a two punch combination and then steps back. The pesky flyweight doesn’t let up she steps right back and connects with a jab to the face but Rach is waiting with a right hand hook to the body catching Cassie in her side. Bazzgirl lets out a gulp of air and limps away. Cook knowing that this may reverse the flow of the fight jumps in with a series of rights and lefts that send Cassie back onto her heels. She’s covering up as best she can while Cook is expertly picking her defense apart with some surprisingly well timed punching. Scerbo staying afloat by using her legs, moving away from Rach’s assault and not getting trapped against the ropes. Still Rachel keeps up the pressure chasing a dinged up Scerbo around until the bell rings and dominating the round.
After: “That was a good fight. Rache is a tough cookie and we knew it going in. She’s got speed and she knows how to use it. So I’m looking for what’s next. I’ve told Pointy and Lissy that I want to pour it on. Every PPV until I’m back on top. I’m real excited about our new training techniques and how we’re integrating them in our fights. You were seeing it here tonight. There’s no way I could have put away Rachael this early without the changes that we’ve been putting in place over the past year or so.” When the clamoring press surges in with questions as to what’s up at Bazz Cassie just beams and states “Come to the next presser at Bazz and you’ll see my new pudding offerings. As for what we’re doing to beat back the resto of the FCBA, well the first reporter that can take down the big man gets to learn our secrets!”
