TESS VALMORE
T.THOMPSON/BENNET I think that Bennet is the best fighter in the Front Street stable and is ranked as the number two bantam by Boxing World. Thompson has had only one fight, which was last year. Some brilliant mind thought it would be a good idea to challenge Vanessa Hudgens for Thompson’s debut. You can guess how that came out. Thompson won’t fair any better in this fight. She lasted five against Hudgens. That’s about how long she will last against Bennet
SALDANA/MCCURDY Saldana is 41 years old and has had one fight in each of the last five years. How many did she win during those years? Zip, nada, none. Her last win was in June 2011. As I have said before, I am not sold on McCurdy. She had a losing record before joining Front Street, but has now won eight of her last nine against not so good competition. The kicker here is that Saldana is five inches taller. That didn’t help her in her last five fights. It won’t help here either
DUNST/WINTER Dunst is now 37 and has and only two fights in the last four years. Would you be surprised to learn she lost both? Her last win was in November 2013, when she beat Portman. Winter has won eight of her last eleven, with those three losses being to top ten fighters. She has beaten some good fighters in the last two years. She will win
ROMJIN/UTGAARD Is this senior citizen night? Romjin is now 47 years old. Just proof that most fighters never retire. As my mentor, The Wiz, once put it, they just stop getting calls. She has had just one fight in the last 2 1/2 years and guess where that was. Yep, the Asylum. She has lost seven straight. She is a four time welter champ, two of those titles being unified. Utgaard has a 16-1 record in conventional fights. Her lone loss was to Kostek last year. Most of her opponents have been subpar, but in her last bout, she beat Brook who is a 40 year old over-rated welter. Romjin lost to Utgaard earlier this year. I see no reason why the result of this fight should change.
ALEXANDER/K.PERRY For once Perry draws an opponent who is not exactly a walk in the park. Alexander has beaten some pretty good competition, but is now on a five fight losing streak. Her last fight was at the Asylum which she lost to Taylor Hill. Perry did fight four top ten fighters last year and lost three of those bouts. I have no doubt Perry will win
