TESS VALMORE
GARDNER/N.SCOTT As the pre-fight publicity points out, Gardner has lost her last two after winning four straight. To get Gardner back on track Electra made a match with Scott. Scott is one of those losers from the New Blood tournaments. She has a 2-1 record and beat Fonseca in her only bout this year, but beating Fonseca is no big deal. Gardner is quite a bit younger, has more experience and is two inches taller. Gardner will win
MAYBERRY/R.L.COOK Mayberry is on a six fight win streak however her list of opponents is less than impressive, however we can excuse that since she has had only ten fights and is still in the learning stage. At 39, Cook is at the end of the line. The pre-fight publicity from the Dollhouse makes a big deal out of her 2015-16 record. It fails to mention that her last win was the last fight of that year. That she has had only three fights since and lost all of them That said, this is probably not going to be a walk in the park for Mayberry. I think she will win
B.THORNE/REN As the publicity points out Thorne mainly fights at bantam and Ren at lightweight. Thorne has had a rough start to the year losing two of three conventional bouts not counting an ill chosen JMD bout. Ren has been busy since losing the title fight opportunity to Sagra. If she has any hope of a title shot in the near future, she simply cannot afford to lose this fight, I have to go with Ren
LAVIGNE/E.WATSON While she may not be the best fighter in the stable, she certainly appears to be management’s favorite. Last year she had more bouts than Mayberry, Gardner and Chastain combined. While she is getting a lot of fights, I certainly can’t complain about her opponents. She has fought a tough schedule and done well. She was ranked at twelve in Boxing World’s last rankings and I think she will up that standing in the next rankings. Watson is 2-2 for the year after losing to Stewart and Hudgens. Lavigne has fought to better competition recently. The kicker. however, is that Watson is almost four inches taller. I have to go with the height. I favor Watson, but I’m not betting any hard earned coin of the realm on it.
WINNICK/S.CARTER Carter is 2-1 for the year after losing a title fight in the April PPV. She was recently elected to the Hall Of Fame. She is another who is approaching the end of the line, yet she is four years younger than Winnick. Winnick, however, hasn’t had the wear and tear of over 100 bouts. Some, including the Wiz and I think she should get a title fight. Winnick has to win this bout or kiss a title chance goodbye. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is going to happen after this bout, as I think Carter will be too much
