TESS VALMORE
I always predict FNL cards with a feeling of uneasiness I find them by far the most difficult to predict They feature the seldom seen, newbies and generally independent fighters. The main event, however generally is of significance with title match implications. There is rarely a gimme. Fighters who need a win are facing fighters with the same problem. Here’s our not so confident predictions
RAE/KUBICKA Rae is a BBU refugee who won her first FCBA in the April FNL card. Kubricka came into the FCBA via a 2017 New Blood tournament losing in the first round of the event. Since then, she has had only two more fights winning both over opponents that I don’t remember who they are. To tell the truth, this bout simply doesn’t overwhelm me. Once again, I have to admit I don’t have a clue. I’ll go with Rae since she is almost three inches taller
MORETZ/JUSTICE Moretz comes into the bout losing six of her last seven. She seems to becoming a go to if you need a win. If I remember correctly, we had some pundits being high on Justice a short time ago. I wonder what about her 2-6 record in last eight makes her seem so good. I said Moretz was go to when you needed a win. So be it. Justice wins
ROUSEY/AZALEA I don’t have much to say about Rousey since it is well known I don’t like wrestlers in the FCBA. FNL, however has a different view. Rousey has had four FCBA bouts. Every one has been on an FNL card. Azalea was doing pretty well until the middle of last year when she decided to try some top ten fighters. Needless to say, it didn’t go well. She has lost the last four and failed to finish the sixth in the last three. Azalea has fought the better competition and the kicker is, she is four inches taller than Rousey. That’s a big height advantage. I will go with Azalea
DAY/LARTER Day is 3-0 after apparently winning a New Blood tournament earlier this year. Larter is another proof that while newbies are introduced regularly, older fighters don’t go away. Larter is now 43, has had three fights in the last six years. The last one was at the Asylum last year. That should tell you something. That was her first fight in three years. She has lost her last four and her last win was in December 2011. Strangely for Day, Larter is a step up in competition. That said, Day is 19 years younger and I will go with youth
BUSH/M.KELLY Bush has been active over the last year and a half. She has had twelve bouts winning seven. Over the same period of time, Kelly has a 4-5 record. She her wins with one exception were over not so good opponents, while her losses were to good fighters. Boxing World has Minka ranked at twelve in the bantams while Bush is ranked at nineteen. I think a win here will help Bush, while a Kelly win won’t help her all that much. The two fought back in 2009 with Kelly wining. I don’t think things has changed much. Kelly will repeat.
LOWNDES/L.COLLINS This is a big flyweight bout that has title shot implications. Lowndes comes in with a 6-4 record in conventional fights since the beginning of last year She has beaten some pretty good fighters during that time and is ranked at ten in Boxing World’s flyweight rankings. Collins comes in with an 8-4 record since the beginning of last year. Boxing World has her ranked one slot below Lowndes after losing a title fight in February. This is the first bout between the two. I think this is a 50/50 bout. I will go with Collins to win
