(Free Agent vs Free Agent)
Intro:
Two debuting fighters now take the stage here in the Barclay's Center, New York, Mia Yim and Eve Torres do battle here at Boxermania.
Mia is 29 years old; she stands 5'7 and as stated this is her debut, she is from California and is a former TNA knockouts champion.
Eve is 34 years old; she stands 5'8 and this is also her debut, she is from Boston, a former 3 time WWE Divas champion and is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, while being married to Rener Gracie.
Alicia Atout got a few words from the fighters in their locker rooms, with Mia finishing working the punch pads, nodding at Alicia to come in as she looks focused.
She is asked about her feelings on tonight, Mia replies "I have been doing Thai boxing for training for years, so this isn't anything new to me, tonight is just another journey for me in a life that has seen me start with volleyball, become a champion wrestler and now maybe a boxing champion"
The subject turns to Eve, Mia answers "I respect her; she has done a lot to help women as I hope I have with telling my let's say bad past to the world"
She finishes with "but once that bell rings; it will be survival of the fittest and I aim to take her head off her shoulders" with Alicia nodding as she backs out the locker room.
Eve meanwhile is getting her hands tapped by her husband, who gives her a kiss as Alicia stands in the doorway waiting to do her job.
When asked how she is feeling; Eve replies "this is my chance to show the world what I can really do, I have heard snipes about me getting my belt in BJJ because of my husband, I worked my ass off for it and I have worked hard to get here"
Next she is asked about Mia; Eve says "if we were not going to war tonight we could be friends, we have similar opinions on matters but tonight is no about any of that, it is me and her deciding whose better, that is something I relish finding out"
Alicia thanks Eve for her time, as Eve gives her a pat on the back before turning back to her husband to get her gloves put on.
Fighting time; Mia is out first with "Night Owl" playing, she is wearing a blue hoodie as she bows to the crowd at the top of the aisle, then makes her way down to the ring.
After getting down to ringside, her coach helps her take her hoodie off to reveal a light blue sports bra, matching trunks with a white waistband, blue shoes with black socks peering out the top, blue gloves, her hair is up in two pigtails.
Now she is in the ring; Mia gives the crowd a quick wave on the way to her corner, before getting into fight mode as she shadow boxes in her corner.
Eve is out next with "She looks good to me" playing, she blows the crowd kisses on the way down the aisle, looking excited to be back in a ring.
She is wearing a bronze coloured sports bra, matching trunks, shoes and gloves, while her hair is braided back for the battle ahead.
Getting into the ring; Eve jogs over to her corner to mount the bottom ropes, raising her arms in the air to a loud cheer, before hoping down so she can begin warming up.
Soon enough the fighters come face to face at the center of the ring, eyes locked together as the referee goes through the final instructions.
When they are told to touch gloves, they surprise the referee by stepping back to bow to each other, then touching gloves as they smile, before heading back to their corners for the bell to ring to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1:
It shows both women truly respect each other judging by the way they are feeling each other out in the beginning of the round.
They are exchanging single punches as Mia looks to have the faster hands, allowing her to score with the cleaner shots of the two.
Though Eve isn't a sitting duck; she is showing a good defence to block punches aimed at her head, she is just finding it hard to catch Mia with more then clipping punches.
When Eve tries to throw a left hook; Mia slips under it to counter with punches to the body, before moving back to the outside when she takes two punches to the top of her head.
It looks like the younger fighter is getting the better of the exchanges, landing more crisper punches and more volume to force Eve back.
As the round comes to a close; Eva does manage to parry a right to counter with one of her own on the lips of Yim.
The round ends with both women exchanging smiles, though as they sit on their stools; they are fully focused on what their coaches are advising them to do now they roughly know what they are against.
Round 2:
Mia starts off the faster of the two; her footwork from her Thai boxing training looks better then Eve's, who is continuing to focus on defensive style boxing it seems.
That allows Mia the range to stick and move, with Eve only landing some shots across the top of the younger fighters head as she moves in close.
Till Mia comes in close to land a straight; Eve deflects it before landing a right cleanly across the face of Mia, which allows Eve to step inside to work the body.
Mia steps back with a nod to Eve, who shows a bit more aggression now she has had success, leading to both standing to trade more.
Eve ends up surprising Mia again as she dodges another right with a shoulder roll, then lands an uppercut that knocks her opponent backwards.
Forcing Mia on the defensive as Eve moves onto the front foot, Mia shows a staunch defence herself to block most of the punches she is receiving her way.
The bell rings with Eve looking a little more relaxed as she jogs back to her corner, her coach tells her "great work on the counter, exactly as we did in training, keep countering her till she hesitates, then she is yours for the taking"
Round 3:
Again Mia keeps being the aggressive one to start things off; though she isn't having things her own way as Eve dodges as many punches as are landing on her.
A missed right by Mia leaves her open to an overhand right from Eve, which allows Eve to come on the inside; where she drills away to the body.
Mia needing to give Eve a little shove back, opening up space to land a double jab on the top of Torres head to open her up now to more punches clean to her face.
A stalemate is starting to form as both women work each other back around the ring, till the miss and find themselves being driven backwards.
Another shoulder roll from Eve allows her to counter with a right across the face of Mia, who gets knocked back by a left cross/straight combination.
Forced to the outside of the ring; Mia looks to be struggling to break out of her shell as Eve bullies her around, the Boston native controlling the center of the ring.
Where Eve looks to be starting to pick her punches more, allowing her to score more on Mia then her gloves as the round comes to an end.
As Mia returns to her corner; her coach is animated as they tell her to keep looking for different angles to make it hard for Eve to counter her.
Round 4:
There's a definite change to Mia's style; she is relying more on her jab as she moves side to side, making Eve stick behind her guard more.
Eve looks a little frustrated as her face is getting marked up by Mia's fists, she dips down to move inside to work the body of Mia, who ends up pulling her into a front headlock.
The referee break them apart; Mia holds out her fist with Eve bumping it to show she accepts the apology for the wrestling move she just had on her.
When the action resumes; Mia feints several times to make Eve react, the up to now patient Eve decides to move on the attack, BUT EATS A RIGHT HOOK ON HER JAW AND A LEFT THAT SENDS HER ONTO HER BACKSIDE!
The Yim fans stand to roar for their girl, who proudly raises her fists to them as she gets to the neutral corner for the count to begin.
1...2...3...4.. Eve shakes her head to clear it, 5...6...7.. Before she looks up to Mia while getting up, giving her a quick nod, 8... Finally she is up to her feet not looking too bad.
Mia wants to test that theory out quickly; charging on the front foot as Eve needs to rely on those defensive skills that have gotten her this far.
Most of the punches from Yim only clip off the gloves or side of Torres head, before a she does finally land a straight off the face of her opponent.
Eve finds herself backed towards a corner, where she pulls Mia into a clinch, the referee breaks them up, with Mia continuing to apply pressure as seconds tick away.
The round ends with Mia looking happy understandably as she jogs back to her corner, her coach saying "that's the Mia I saw in training, she is ready to go when you feel like pulling the trigger"
Round 5:
Mia is looking to pull that trigger early it seems; she lands two punches straight into the face of Eve to take the center of the ring early.
Where she proceeds to force Eve around, the former Divas champion is hiding behind her gloves for the time being, as Mia looks for gaps to exploit.
Eve times her own attack well though; slipping under a left cross to land her own uppercut to the body; followed by a left over the top that turns Mia's head.
Suddenly both have their feet planted and are letting their fists go, grunts of effort can be heard as sweat flies off them.
Ducking under a right; Eve counters after nudging Mia back with her left shoulder, slamming a right across the becoming puffy cheek of Yim.
Who retreats back but finds Eve right on her with flurries of punches coming from Torres, who starts to pick at the body of her opponent to open her up.
That leaves her open to a left across her cheek, then a straight knocks her head backwards as the momentum is switching between the two.
They end up brawling it out in the center of the ring, the crowd loving this as the fighters coaches are sweating with worry.
One rightly is after their fighter misses with a right hook; Eve catches Mia with an uppercut that puts her on her heels.
With Mia getting knocked onto the ropes as the bell rings to end an exciting round, both women show the marks from it.
Sitting on their stools; both get washed down and their puffy cheeks worked on, the crowd is split seemingly down the middle who is wants to win as the fighters look across the ring with wonder how their opponent is giving them this much trouble.
Round 6:
Both women trade stiff shots from the bell; Mia gets back on her bike to look for someway of putting Eve's lights out.
Instead Eve continues to look good with her head movement allowing her to dodge, while countering to the body of her opponent.
But Mia slams a double jab into her face, followed by a right hook that makes Eve stumble towards the ropes, making Mia's eyes light up.
She misses with a left hook though as Eve slips under it to get into space; WHEN MIA THROWS A STRAIGHT SHE MISSES AGAIN, THIS TIME TO BE PUNISHED BY AN UPPERCUT THAT SNAPS HER HEAD BACK, THE RIGHT HOOK SENDS HER CRUMBLING TO THE CANVAS!
Eve jogs over to the neutral corner with a look of hope, 1...2...3...4... Mia can be heard groaning, 5...6... But her gumshield comes out as 7...8... She is barely moving 9....10 that's it for her!
Winner Eve Torres KO Round 6
After:
Those silky smooth defensive skills got Eve through this fight, a great knockout gives the boxing world a possible taste of what Eve has to offer maybe?
Right now she pumps her right fist into the air as she jogs to her corner, thanking her coach as she gives them a kiss on the cheek.
While Mia stirs awake after getting smelling salts under her nose, she sits up with help as she says "I f***ed up" her coach quick to console her.
Over comes Eva as Mia is helped to stand, she checks on her as Mia nods her thanks, the two soon chat like old friends as Mia uses the ropes to stand up on her own.
The coach of Mia though recommends her to head to the back, Eve hugs Mia and thanks her for the fight, with the two joking about meeting up for sparring on Monday.
Mia gets cheers from her fans as she heads up the ramp, telling her coach that she even though she lost, she enjoyed the experience, so maybe we will see her back in the ring in future.
In the ring Eve is bowing to each side, showing her gratitude to the fans as she leaves the ring to a round of applause.
She showed tonight that she can win in a boxing ring to go with the badass reputation she is growing, Eve doesn't seem to care about that, just smiling as she heads to the back to celebrate.
