Our reporter sits in The Great Room at The Manor watching basketball and sipping cold beverages with Poindexter Del Crunchy and the Man In The Hat.
Reporter: "So, Wiz, that next FNL card should be fun..."
Pointy: "No doubt about it. Beckinsale/Theron? Never thought I'd see THAT fight again..."
Man In The Hat: "And, it's nice to see Cuthbert get back in the ring. I was sorry to see Lishy get sort of shuffled upstairs at Lookout! She was a heck of a bantam, and, my guess is, she's still got plenty left."
Reporter: "And, you've got a big announcement yourself coming on Thursday."
Man In The Hat: "We do. And, we're hopin' to start 2019 right at both Asylum and on the Queendom card."
Reporter: "Speaking of Queendom and JMDD, it's not often someone turns down a title shot. I mean, I know you had a contract and all, but, still, it's pretty rare."
Man In The Hat: "It is, but, again, I wouldn't disrespect the title or Hannah by sendin' a girl after either one on a week's recovery time. Besides, for, maybe the first time since we started here nearly nine years ago now, this year isn't likely to be ABOUT titles."
Pointy: "Says the man who always says a year isn't successful unless he wins one."
Man In The Hat: "Last year was a shot across the bow for us. Obviously, stables work hard to get their girls into positions to earn shots at various belts. And, we apparently did a good job at that, since we got six opportunities. The problem was, we only cashed the one. Add in the fact that we lost a LOT of big fights in 2018, and it leads me to believe we have a problem."
Reporter: "And, that problem is?"
Pointy: "He just TOLD you, lad! He doesn't think Front Street is doing well enough in big fights."
Man In The Hat: "Correct. We are NOT. So, 2019 isn't going to be about trying to get a bunch of shots at titles so we can spit more bits. It's going to be about finding out who CAN and who can NOT win big fights. And, it's going to be about finding out what we, as a stable, do well. Almost nine years now and we've never won the flyweight belts. Only two shots, even, in all that time. Almost nine years and we've never won the welter titles. Maybe you get to the point where you concentrate on what you do well. Maybe, like Hawk, you become a two-division stable. Maybe you just work at bantam and light, where you've had success, and maybe keep a couple of other girls around to concentrate on JMD/D if that works out."
Pointy: "Maybe you DON'T do something like that and you stay the course..."
Man In The Hat: "Maybe..."
Reporter: "You could always make roster changes at those two weights..."
Man In The Hat: "We could. And we might. And not just at those two. But, that's something we've done many times before at fly and welter to no result. So, here we are. And that's why 2019 is about figuring out what we're about and where we want to be when we hit our tenth anniversary in 2020. This might be a very different place when we cut that cake. Very, very different. Now. Let's watch some ball."
