Our reporter and his blonde companion sit in the Man In The Hat's office at Front Street.
Reporter: "Well, it looks like some stables are going dark again...it's that time of the year..."
Man In The Hat (nodding): "Yeah, it is. And, I'm always sorry to see that. But, as I always say at this time of the year, our current commissioner has done a great job of addressing a problem the FCBA had for several years. And, while nobody likes to see stables go dark..."
Tess: "It's better than the alternative."
Man In The Hat: "It absolutely is. It's far better than having fighters, basically, taken off the board because they're under contract to stables that, for whatever reason, are no longer able to operate effectively. I can remember when we first opened up, there were three or four stables like that. You'd try to contact them to get fights and you got, figuratively, sent straight to voicemail. And, there were good fighters in those stables, ones you could have made excellent fights with..."
Tess: "But, you couldn't, because they were under contract."
Man In The Hat: "Exactly. And, that kind of thing...it's not good for the FCBA or for the fighter. The FCBA loses the draw and the fighter loses time and opportunities, gets lost. It's tough to be an indie in the FCBA, as everyone knows, but it's even worse being in a stable that's not functioning. So, the Commissioner has the right idea."
Reporter: "The good news is, the list is smaller this year..."
Man In The Hat: "I noticed that. And, I think one reason for that is that the Commissioner has already cleared out a lot of dead wood. Most of the stables we've got now are active, so, the issue isn't as big as in past years. But. It's still an issue and it's important that the FCBA continues to address it. And, you know what ELSE is important? That you don't miss Chef's stuffed burgers..."
Tess: "Let's GO!"
