Our reporter sits in The Great Room at The Manor watching basketball and sipping cold beverages with the Man In The Hat and Poindexter Del Crunchy.
Pointy: "Those rankings of yours were interesting, lad..."
Reporter: "Well, I haven't gotten many complaints so far, so I'll call them a 'win'..."
Pointy: "I imagine a couple of Wizardo's flyweights might not be happy..."
Man In The Hat (smiling): "Which is what Smackeroo was referring to the other day."
Reporter: "I figured ranking Levy being ranked highest among your flys might have ruffled a feather or two..."
Man In The Hat: "Oh, I'm sure everyone will get over it. Besides, you could argue that Jane's our top flyweight right now and not be wrong. The girl's beaten good fighters like Song, Henstridge, and Holt and her only career loss is Mendes...and there's certainly no shame in that."
Reporter (smiling): "So, what's the flyweight pecking order look like right now?"
Man In The Hat: "Well. Obviously, Ariel would have jumped to the top with a win over Mishy...and Kristen would have solidified her spot with a win over Watson. And, Jennette would have gotten into the discussion had she beaten Roberts. None of that happened, however, so I'd say it's pretty fluid. And, again, you could argue Jane should be right at the top. We'll see how it all works out."
Reporter: "Any more thoughts on 2019?"
Man In The Hat: "LOTS of 'em. Lots of 'em."
Reporter: "And, you're still thinking things are going to look somewhat different?"
Man In The Hat: "Son, do you know what the difference is between Andy Reid and Mike McCarthy?"
Reporter: "One still has a job?"
Man In The Hat: "Correct. And the REASON is the real difference. Reid and McCarthy are both offensive guys who use the same concepts, the Bill Walsh concepts erroneously referred to as the 'West Coast Offense'. The REAL West Coast Offense was invented by Sid Gillman and was a deep passing offense like the one Don Coryell used in San Diego. Walsh's offense was invented in Cincinnati where Walsh was an assistant. The team was running a version of the REAL West Coast Offense until its quarterback, Greg Cook, got hurt. Cook had a cannon, but the team's other QBs were weak-armed guys. Walsh and the other assistants adjusted, and the offense Walsh used in San Francisco was born..."
Reporter: "What does this have to do with the FCBA..."
Man In The Hat: "Both McCarthy and Reid use the same offensive concepts and have for years. The difference is, Reid adjusted. He's added in pieces of the college Air Raid offenses, like many other teams have, things like jet sweeps and rubs and picks and stacking receivers, all in efforts to get his guys open. The result is that Kansas City has one of the most dynamic offenses in the league. McCarthy didn't do that. And, the result was that his offense stagnated despite having a Hall of Fame QB running it, the team didn't win, and he got fired. Again, the concepts he was using still work. But. He needed to adjust, like Reid did. Well. We aren't going to be Mike McCarthy. Our concepts work, too. But, we're going to adjust. Now. Let's watch some ball."
