Newest Girls Friday signing announcement!
(Melanie Sykes comes out on a stage in California with a crowd of journalists ready to hear what this press conference has been set up for.)
Melanie: thank you to everyone who has come today, I have been busy the past week of course helping prepare our fighters for the latest PPV, which was a successful night for us.
But we were also in discussions with another woman who was part of the PPV, for the past two weeks in fact we have been talking to someone about joining coaching team.
This person is a former JMD champion so has the experience of a champion and has been a friend of our stable for a while, so without further ado we are proud to announce we have signed Sophia Bush to our stable.
(Sophia comes out in a tight black dress and heels, waving to the press and getting a hug from the taller Melanie, then she heads to the podium to speak.)
Sophia: I wonder how many of you saw this happening in your crystal balls? *winks* me and Hilary (Burton) decided after a long frank discussion that if I was to have any chance long term before I retire that I need to be in a place where I'll be pushed to be my best.
I want to make clear that I love Hilary as an amazing friend and I am blessed that she helped me this past year after sadly the Alpha Boxing Club shut down.
I guess I've never had the best of luck with stables before, hopefully this will be different as I don't feel like moving any more.
OK I have a little time for questions, ask away guys.
Lucy Liu (FCBA network): Sophia; you are going to be a coach, so how does that affect your fighting career?
Sophia: I am still an active boxer for the record, this is not my retirement announcement and I am planning on being a bantamweight champion before I decide to hang the gloves up on the mantle place.
But it will be different yes, I'll be helping out coach fighters with Taryn Terrell and Lauren Berlingeri, as a group I think we will each bring something different to the table and I'll be focusing on helping with the flyweights and bantamweight fighters.
When I have a fight though I have been authorised to step out the coaching team and train with the fighters, so I guess I am a part time coach for now till I learn the ropes of that.
FCBA insider reporter: what do you say to rumours you and Hilary were fighting and that you made the first move to the Girls Friday management?
Sophia: *rolls eyes* you lot have always been the bottom of the barrel for reporting, I have seen your claims of so and so are going to fight it out.
So let me make this perfectly clear for you twitter reporters and guys who think making up stories will make them famous, me and Hilary are like family, we have never physically fought and I have not fallen out with her.
On your second statement, Melanie with my friend Ivana Baquero came to me after they had spoken to me and Hilary at a dinner, it led to them saying they might have room for me if I were willing to be a coach as well as a fighter.
It was honestly a hard decision, in terms of fun I was having with Hilary, every morning was a dream, to wake up and go running with her, to spar with her cheering me on and being frank with me when needed, it was a dream but I need to find somewhere I will be pushed harder and that's where me and Hilary agreed I needed to take this offer.
Melanie: OK we have time for one more question, I hope it's better then the last one!
Brunette magazine reporter: while of course we love you Sophia, we have to ask at 36 years old, do you seriously see yourself becoming a champion before you retire?
Sophia: I love you guys too for the record and well this is me betting on myself, I could have stayed with Hilary renting time at our local gym for the ring and sparring local talent, instead I am going to be in a room now with top fighters all wanting to be the best.
I have been told and seen it with my own eyes that this stable rewards success, if you get it they will back you, I also have seen that when a fighter is down they will do their best if that person is willing to pick them up and give them confidence to succeed.
You have to remember that I'll be sparring with Kaya Scodelario, a former FCBA bantamweight champion, one of the best in the FCBA right now and while we are friends outside the ring, we have proven we will go hard against each other in a real fight, so she won't give me any quarter like the fighters I have been sparring with have.
So I have no excuses now not to have a big push for success, I've the tools and with friends and my family behind me, I will bring home gold to show for this long hard journey I have been on.
Melanie: I just want to make one more announcement about Sophia, after the PPV we got into a discussion with Piper Perabo about fighting Sophia, that will take place on Monday 10th December right here in California!
(Melanie then heads to Sophia and raises her right hand up in the air, Sophia grins for the cameras as they take photos of this historic signing to the British based stable.)
Welcome Sophia Bush to the Girls Friday stable!
