Mila Kunis vs. Camila Mendes
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)
Battle of beautiful brunettes sees rising star Camila run into another HISC member. And, while Mendes may not have handled Michelle Williams, she's confident she can deal with Mila. "Look, I had Williams on the ropes, literally and figuratively," says Camila. "And, this girl isn't at that level. She's not beating me tonight."
"I'm supposed to be impressed?", asks a hard-eyed Mila. "Impressed because she managed to make it into the eighth before Michelle disposed of her? Well. I'm not. And, I'm not impressed with her beating girls like Kane and Lavigne, either. Tonight, she gets a REAL fighter. And, she'll find out once again that she doesn't have what it takes when that happens."
Despite the bad blood in the pre-fight, this one starts slowly. Nobody's letting the built-up anger make them get sloppy. Instead, we see some recon in the first round. The younger Mendes wants to stick and move, and she has the legs for it, no question of that. Kunis wants to create exchanges and get her box on, and, while she's not quite as quick as her younger rival, she's got plenty of leg and the skill to cut the ring and force the kinds of trades she wants. Result is that both fighters get some of what they want, but not nearly as much of it as they want. And, as always when that happens, you get a competitive, two-way round. It's close from the beginning right until the final seconds. And, that's where the veteran steals it, cutting the ring, stepping to, and letting the hands go. She tosses Camila onto the defensive for the final 15 seconds, and that's enough for Mila to take the round and the 10-9 lead.
Color the "feeling out" portion of our program over. Mila steppin' to early. She's gotten Camila's footwork down and she cuts the ring and begins bringing the heavy leather. Mendes not going to punk, firing right back. BOOM! Right hand, KUNIS! And Mendes is ROCKED. Camila stumblin', rumblin', fumblin' as the veteran brunette lets the hands go. Mendes on rubber legs, driven back to the ropes where Mila gets busy. Kunis CLINICAL as she slowly takes apart the younger woman, working body, head, body, head, hurting with virtually every punch. Mendes game. Hanging on desperately. Jabbing back here and there, but clearly just trying to hang on. Mila, meanwhile, all about finishing, looking back at the ref twice after hard shots, wondering what it's going to take for him to stop this thing. Bell rings before she can find out. But, when it does, Kunis has grabbed it wide and leads 20-18.
Mila POURING forward, throwing heavy shot at a retreating Camila. Mendes on the defensive, keeping the guard high, trying to slow Kunis with the jab. BOOM! Right-hand COUNTER and MILA IS HURT! Camila manages to set the feet and land a perfectly-placed right that might have ended this if she'd had her legs all the way under her. As it is, Kunis' knees do a shimmy and now MENDES is all in, tossing barrage after barrage of leather at the older woman, driving her back to the cables and pinning her there in a complete 180 from the last round. Kunis forms the tight earmuff, rolls with, blocks what she can, plays defense. Crafty veteran fires back here and there, making sure to keep the ref at bay, but it's all Camila for the final two-plus minutes, as Mendes pays Kunis back with interest for round two. At the bell, it's Camila wide and Mila's lead is cut to 29-28.
Mendes rolling. Younger brunette not going to make the mistake the veteran did, though. She's after the wobbly Kunis immediately, but shows her rival a little respect. She stays very sound, sets up punches, gets the hands out and back, piling up points and hurt while making sure Mila can't flip the script as Camila herself did in the previous stanza. And, Mila CAN'T. Oh, she lands a few counters, but that's about all she can manage. For the rest of the three minutes, it's Mendes, Mendes, and more Mendes, as the Latina lovely REEFS hard shot to both head and body. Last minute is spent on the ropes, with Camila POURING hard, accurate fire at Kunis. And, while she doesn't look over her shoulder at him, this time it has to be Mendes who's wondering just what she has to do to get him to step in. Again, the bell rings before she finds out. But. It's shutout Camila and we're even at 38.
Camila right back after Mila. Kunis again on the retreat, giving ground, jabbing here and there to try to slow her rival down, but still looking wobbly. Mendes taking full advantage. She's putting together nice flurries, getting accurate leather home mostly to the head, but not completely ignoring the body. Mila at least managing to stay off the ropes, but that's the only positive as Mendes train keeps rolling and rolling and DERAILS! A BLISTERING right hand counter from Kunis and Mendes is FROZEN. A quick flurry from the veteran and DOWN GOES CAMILA as Mendes puddles at Kunis' feet! Mila steps over her fallen rival and moves to a neutral corner to watch as the referee counts. Camila feebly struggling on the canvas, trying to get the arms and legs to work enough to shove up to all fours, but she can't do it. She's still desperately trying when the count passes her by. It's OVER! And your winner by KO5 in lighting-strike fashion is Mila Kunis!
Post-fight sees a grinning Kunis giving her interviewer a conspiratorial stage whisper. "Let me tell you a secret," the lovely brunette says. "This girl doesn't have a chin. The Consortium knew that coming in. And, I knew that sooner or later I'd get her. And, that's EXACTLY what happened."
