AMANDA RIGHETTI (35 y/o, 5 ft 8, W: 86, L: 28) vs ALI LANDRY (45 y/o, 5 ft 8, W: 100, L: 52, D: 4)
A Cajun Farewell – Ali Landry’s Last Battle
(Results: Lookout!, Words: Bonzo)
(2/2) – The Fight
Make sure you read the first part, too, which is a little walk into history!
Before: Ten rounds of welterweight boxing will take place at an undisclosed Louisiana swamp scene somewhere in the Mississippi delta – this is natural Cajun territory for Breaux Bridge-born Ali. The ring is set up in makeshift fashion at a jungle-esque, wild nature scene. Think: a scene from 1981’s film Southern Comfort. The audience consists of about a hundred hand-picked friends of Ali’s set up around the ring, yelling and hooting for their girl. It’s hot, humid, sweaty and moist. Ali’s fighting in a swanky, black soft-leather bikini, her gloves in elegant black-and-white stripes – Amanda’s clad in fire-red hot pants, and a dark-red sports bra, wearing black gloves.
Some recent 2018 looks of our competitors:
R1: Girls trying to sort each other out based on regular jabs – Righetti the brisker, more aggressive puncher in these early exchanges, putting that jab across Ali’s shoulders, sizing her up towards the breasts and head via fierce, flowing lefts, but staying in mid-distance from Ali’s body, pivoting in and out. Landry leggy for 45: she’s continually supposed to get dictated into ropes, manages to slide, roll out of this pressure instead. Ali keeping her trigger ready off the ropes to hold Amanda off: sneaky counter uppercuts dropping towards Righetti’s guard/face…we can’t measure how hard these punches are, but ‘Manda’s staying off Ali as a result.
Righetti working in systematic fashion across first round – she’s shelling her jabs across Landry’s golden-brown waist, twists short hooks-to-face startle-jumping into Ali as brunette covers up peek-a-boo. Landry increasingly adjusts to a runner-boxer’s stance across second, third min, staying on her heels, staying bendy, keeping things peppy via steady walking barrage of slingin’ lefts, rights. Righetti not committing into these exchanges, slyly negotiating her way forward behind a shy step-and-poke jab – Ali’s pace slowly takes over as a result, bumping hard-punched hooks into ‘Manda’s tits, waist, hopping like a thirty-year-old.
Points move LANDRY’S way late: Righetti’s jab tip-tappin’ that brunette tummy, redhead coaxed to stalk Ali into turnbuckle – Landry dragging those feet, takes a sliding half-step back, tik-toks a gambled lefty counter hook to ‘Manda’s jawline in good, ringing fashion past Righetti’s guard, forcing strong redhead torso into well-visible shudders as knees strain to hold.
A pleased Ali Landry marches to her corner at bell, some of that old Cajun power magic back on display…she’s taken the first points, and they will be hers forever. Righetti shaking her head, but still upbeat in corner: “I don’t have to explain this to you, ‘Manda”, coach says. “Ali can win this way. Behave.”
R2: Righetti sorts things out, touching her foe out at a stick’s end via the long jab, then leaning into smooth, yet powerful right hands, splashing off Ali’s face. Ali fast on her feet, showing good head movement, leggy ring mastership – she’s getting picked up, punished despite all caution, though. Landry’s counter instincts stalled by Amanda’s activity, rhythm –the hard left’s a-smashing into her guard/neck/face in deep, massive thuudddds, or punches directed all the way into Ali’s golden waistline. Dizzying punch work hitting Landry’s war-experienced chassis!
Landry turns more aggressive by the mid-way point: she’s mounting sneaky, fast-ish rushes against ‘Manda, swinging unexpected wild haymakers across both sides of Righetti’s head – Amanda responds with sharp legwork, clockwise side-stepping pivots, the left hand keeping her range and doing sound damage, the right hand punishing Ali’s aggression with pinpointed power.
Ali a sullen, cranky beauty after three minutes of this thing: aggression not working against a sharp Righetti jab.
R3: Landry summons leggy, sinewy powers throughout third round, forming a more supple, looser stance rarely applied by brunette power puncher in the past: hands in relaxed positions, she’s licking her delivery as she’s stepping around Righetti, slinging hips, shoulders and arms into lashing, intermittent punchwork. Amanda adjusts to Ali’s change of tack, staying defensive with her chin and elbows tucked in, her dukes kept up to read out Landry’s plans. Style sees Ali on the back foot, but under her own terms, tempo under her control – Righetti forms a shy-ish stalking mode, circling-with clockwise, still walking forward behind pinpointing jabs to Ali’s rack or left flank, only occasionally stepping in from the outside to pulverize Landry’s gut flanks via thumping right hands.
Head movements, leggy torso-tacks all very professional work from Ali, although nobody expects her legs to do this thing for ten rounds – sinewy, irregular delivery putting Righetti’s jab out-of-sync here, not anticipating when Ali will punch her punch. Points to Ali, mostly from hooks: Landry feints these hooks, delaying or aborting punches, coaxing Rigs into hits when she does get off from the waist. Amanda not particularly aggressive, but taking some because she’s in front of Landry: shruggin’, slingin’ hooks to jaw-sides from either fist, weight on either foot – Ali timing these shots gorgeously in grubby, got-cha fashions.
Power still so dazzling from Ali’s fists, with pay-off for brunette down the stretch: another whip-whip hook penetrating left ear past Amanda’s own straight jab – curling hook sees Righetti stagger backward parallel to ropes, dizzy, staring, a snarling Ali in pursuit.
R4: Landry stiffens her own jab, taking quick, spacious steps around the ring, always keeping her torso tiltin’, leanin’ out of Amanda’s lefts – Ali’s walking forward herself now into Righetti’s routes, as girls shrug into hard spear-jabs to regain control, do some good damage. Girls pivot around anchored left foot, torquing punches across each other’s rack/solar-plexus, both sliding in and out of ranges. ‘Manda’s heavier-handed jab beats Ali to punches and angles across the first minute, punches snapping gorgeously off Landry’s proud ribcage, followed by right hands landing into the brunette’s left flank – we see shots of Ali grimacing, back-pedalling in spots.
Landry adjusts by showing more legs again: hard tacks to the right, sudden sidesteps mitigate dangers of Righetti’s stalk along the way – Ali making sure to keep punchin’, although she’s no longer penetrating as effectively via her sinewy lashes, curling jabs. Landry makes sure to collect her points here even when she’s just a-brushin’ these jabs towards Amanda’s face, though – Righetti visibly annoyed by Ali’s leggy, elusive tempo, pursuing her with dukes-up, her jabs a little out of range, her pressure faded by Ali. Two good, leggy minutes for Ali Landry in the swamp: she’s ahead after four!
R5: Righetti knock-steps into her jabs early, not just poking, but really tapping Ali to her face as brunette negotiates, pedals out – Landry mismanages these bursts of aggression, not leaning out of most of the punches in time. Ali essentially punched wobbly-butt from just two, three of these thiiiick straight lefts, her head kicking back from a temple shot: it’s a different round for her from the get-go. Ali forced to manage her defense – she’s stooping forward behind her mitts, dukes held at temples, wandering away from Amanda’s jab pivots, but clearly slowed down, trying to find her feet back. ‘Manda more comfortable in regular pursuit of a less leggy Landry – she’s feeling out some uppercuts against brunette’s arms/biceps, hammering short, cruel hooks above Ali’s right hip…she’s got Ali gasping from body shots here!
Ali duly forms stances off ropes, trying to be cute off her counter shots…Righetti responds in alert fashion, stays compact, so Ali’s moving to tie up around Amanda, slippily reaching behind her elbows. Redhead resolute against these attempts: healthy shoves and short, shrugging straights into Landry’s gut. Ali outstretches her arms but she gets tapped a chopping right-cross on the mouth! Head kicking back again, oh – Landry’s in trouble! It’s one patient, methodical Righetti walk-down, followed by another walk-down to ropes – BLUNT right hands start exploring Ali’s gut in broad, enduring fashion as Ali defends her guard up top, gives up her bod to Amanda’s right uppercuts, right crosses. With the round slowly winding down, Ali proves as messy and tough as expected, riding it out under pressure, her veteran legs still functioning.
Down the stretch: Righetti willing to go tummy to tummy, tucking in short, precise punches against Ali’s jaw-line inside close while continuing with vicious body shots. Landry’s tummy getting pulverized by Righetti’s weight in these struggles – she’s being turned, shoved, handled in emphasizing fashion.
After the bell: Ali drop-slumps onto her stool, face not hiding her deep discouragement, shoulders leaning back, eyes closing in exhaustion – no doubt, a hungry Righetti’s hurt her this round.
R6: Early seconds, cruuunching right hands as girls step-to mid-ring: Landry forcing forward with a vibrating lefty hook against the side of Amanda’s face, buffeting her skull – and Ali wields the right hand hammer! Slighty off-balance, Righetti shifts weight, hips a step to the right, and explodes into a crisply delivered right hand herself…fast, short inside trajectory, hitting Ali’s unprotected chin big! Landry’s right goes corkscrewing into nowhere, she’s caught on the spot, her eyes roll back, turning into a blank stare – she’s toast! Landry totters back some steps, dangling from side to side, arms low…Righetti steps-with, not punching her foe. Ali: torso unhinged, legs not responding, body shutting itself down…a delayed reaction finally sees her crashing onto her tummy, flopping askew to ropes all jelly-limbed!
Ali’s not stirring, silent, OUT – Amanda takes a short bow towards her foe, then raises left arm with a nod…a legendary career ends via a crushing KO6 Amanda Righetti!
After: Ali Landry’s special farewell battle ends to sight of the legendary brunette gently rolled onto her back in deadweight big-girl fashion until her eyes finally flicker open, her head gets propped up delicately, senses slowly returning as Ali groans, looks confused. A subdued Amanda’s there to help Landry up, assisting a rickety legend to her stool. Scenes of respect all over the ring later when Ali’s back in shape for formalities, girls chatting, towels draped across shoulders, arms around each other, lots of hugs and shoulder pats.
Amanda: “Ali’s still got it. She’s got legs, she’s got the punch. She’s got the smarts. She’s not going to win another title, though, and she’s probably not going to kick any more supermodel butt at welter. She’s said it yesterday. She’s a legend, probably the best celebrity welter of the early millennium, and she’s accomplished pretty much everything she wanted. I think it’s the right decision to hang up the gloves for good now, formally, and go out like this. Nothing to be ashamed of with tonight’s fight. Thanks for having me, Ali.”
Ali: “Yeah, I know. It’s time. I really thought I might get a crack at her tonight, but she was simply too good. I want to thank everyone involved. This is it for Ali Landry. Thank you all.”
Note: I’m quite aware of the fact that what this match-up needs now is a THIRD part – the one where Ali n’ Amanda catfight the hell out of each other. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time nor the talent to write that, but feel free to imagine it yourself, or write it up instead!
