TESS VALMORE
Let me be quite clear in the beginning. The following is not a criticism, it is simply an observation. Tractorpull has never considered knockouts when doing the rankings nor the Hall Of Fame. We simply consider competition and wins no matter how achieved,
Back on November 2, when Jenny McCarthy announced her return to the ring, she referred to Gena Lee Nolin as the “greatest knockout artist in the history of the FCBA’ That comment caused us to take a look at her record
Gina Lee did have 86 knockouts, but wait. She won 130. Only 66% of her wins were by knockout. I then checked Cat Bell, a Hall Of Fame member. She won 108 bouts, but only 47 by KO, 43% of her fights. How about the great Theron, the G0AT, 155 KOs in 249 wins, a KO percentage of a little over 62% Gosh I thought, Nolin and Theron were amazing
Fast forward to 2016. Since then, Kendall Jenner was won 24 bouts. How may by KO? Twenty-four (100%). Look a Kaley Kloss. She has won 15 fights, all by KO. Well, what’s Taylor Swift done? Like Jenner, she has won 24. Every single one by a KO. There are many fighters who have never been involved in a bout that didn’t end in a KO
Back in September and October of 2009, there were 67 fights of which 54 ended in KOs (80%) In September/October 2018, there were 75 bouts. Every single one ended in a KO. (100%)
The question is, what happened to the unanimous decision? Some of the more happy managers can point our that maybe today’s fighters with proper training and diet are heavier hitters. But, there is another explanation? Years ago, Tractorpull asked the Commissioner about the fighters being heavy hitters. His reply (paraphrasing) “it’s not heavy hitting, it’s that they cannot take a punch” Is that the answer? All these tall, slender models, the new singers and actresses, have they gone soft? They simply cannot take a good punch? No manager is going to admit that is the truth, but it can in fact. be the reason
KO’s, I think are more exciting to the crowd than a decision. It’s the going for the kill most want to see. No one’s complaining about the lack of decisions. No one is missing them. No one is suggesting we return to the days of yore. 2018 is different from 2009. The FCBA is just one proof
