Our reporter and his blonde companion sit in the Man In The Hat's office at Front Street.
Reporter: "So, Wiz. Talk to me about JMD/D. You've mentioned maybe doing that with Utgaard and McKinney to keep them busy while you take a break from the welterweight title picture..."
Man In The Hat: "That's been one of the considerations, yes."
Reporter (smiling): "Anything to announce?"
Man In The Hat: "When I have something to announce, I announce it."
Reporter: "There's been speculation that you might move on from McKinney and Utgaard and work with hybrid light/welters like Perry and Hill going forward..."
Man In The Hat: "We like Antje and Charlotte. We think both have the ability to win championships in the FCBA. Charlotte's beaten some very good fighters and Antje has the best physicals of any fighter in the FCBA, period. I'm not anxious to move on from either of them. We'll find ways forward for them while we take the welter break."
Tess (shaking her head): "I can't believe my betrothed is talking about JMD/D when the STORY here is STEWART. I ASSUME you read the interview, Wiz..."
Man In The Hat: "I did."
Tess: "Any comment?"
Man In The Hat: "Kristen isn't the first fighter ever to be unhappy with me. And, she likely won't be the last."
Tess: "Any comment on what, specifically, she had to say?"
Man In The Hat: "I have a comment on what YOU had to say. I don't think her forty wins are a joke. Winning forty fights in the FCBA isn't easy. Period. Doesn't matter the opposition. My issue with Kristen, however, isn't about her ability to win fights, it's about her record in BIG fights..."
Tess (smiling): "Which leaves much to be desired. Which is my POINT."
Man In The Hat: "It's also MY point."
Reporter: "So, let's clear something up. Who's responsible for all this with Stewart? Is it Cole or Watson, since Cole's taking credit..."
Man In The Hat: "Neither. This isn't about Cole or Watson. It's about Kristen. As far as Cole, we need fighters who can BEAT Cole. I need fighters who can SHUT COLE'S MOUTH. And, if I don't have 'em here, I WILL find 'em and I WILL get that done, because I'm tired of her talking on us and we don't do a DAMN THING about it. If we don't have people here who can, we'll find 'em and we'll get 'em in here."
Reporter: "I thought you LIKED Cole..."
Man In The Hat: "I LOVE Cole. She's gorgeous and has attitude a mile wide. She's a heck of a fighter and I'd be surprised if she doesn't win the belts. She's EXACTLY what the FCBA needs, a superb drawing card. But. What WE need as a stable is somebody to step up and smack her in the mouth. That's what we've ALWAYS done. Somebody talks on us, we SMACK 'EM IN THE MOUTH. For eight plus years, fighter after fighter has done that, and they've ALL paid for it. And, SOMEBODY is gonna make Cole pay for it. If that girl isn't here, well. She'll be here soon enough."
Reporter: "As the other half of a one-two punch...like the one Odds and Ends has with Holt and Mendes..."
Man In The Hat: "Oh, Odds and Ends does INDEED have something there with those two. And, yes, we'd like to have something like that. Indeed, we would."
Tess: "Looks like several other stables would be interested in Stewart if you decide she's not a part of that. Does that make you think twice?"
Man In The Hat: "Doesn't enter into it at all..."
Reporter: "Other stables were interested in Decker..."
Man In The Hat: "Yes, they were. But, we don't make decisions based on what other managers think or what's best for other stables. We make decisions based on what's best for THIS stable..."
Tess: "And, those decisions usually come down to Wiz's razor, don't they?"
Man In The Hat: "Indeed, they do..."
Tess: "All fighters in the stable have to be capable of winning a championship or capable of developing INTO a fighter who can win a championship. No B-level fighters need apply."
Man In The Hat: "Exactly."
Tess: "And, Stewart's a B-level fighter..."
Man In The Hat: "I didn't say that. I like Kristen, both personally and as a fighter. She's been with us a long time and done a lot of things for us. Nobody bought into her when she came here, but she made believers out of everyone including our former commissioner. She's fought with a chip on her shoulder from the beginning, and it hasn't gotten any smaller."
Reporter: "What's all that mean?"
Man In The Hat: "That's the question, isn't it? But, you know what there's NEVER a question about? How great Chef's Beef Wellington is..."
Tess: "Let's GO!"
