Our reporter sits in The Great Room at The Manor watching basketball with Poindexter Del Crunchy and the Man In The Hat.
Reporter: "Everything ready for Asylum, Wiz?"
Man In The Hat (nodding): "Sure is. Gonna be a great card. Looking forward to it."
Reporter: "Did you see Tess' latest rankings? Front Street's pretty much out of them..."
Man In The Hat (nodding): "And, I expect it's going to stay that way. Tess doesn't like the way we book. And, we aren't going to be changing that."
Reporter: "That next FNL card looks to be a good one..."
Pointy: "Any card featuring Lilly and ScarJo is a good one."
Man In The Hat: "Agreed. Both of those fighters put butts in seats. And, they're both fun to watch."
Pointy: "And, Smackeroo, you might want to alert your girlfriend re: Ms. Lilly. She's going to be 40 next August, but shows no signs of slowing down. And, if she doesn't slow down, there's a good chance she's going to hit 100 fights..."
Reporter (nodding): "And become eligible for the Hall of Fame. I've been thinking about that lately. Lookout! has been getting her a lot of fights. And, speaking of things I've been thinking about lately...your welters..."
Man In The Hat: "Here's the thing we've had to think about, and, it's a reality that a lot of folks don't understand. Let's take a football coach for example. If you get to the point where you don't believe your coach is good enough, that he isn't capable of winning championships for you, you have to make a change..."
Reporter: "Sounds reasonable."
Man In The Hat: "Now. The fear is, what if the new guy is WORSE than the old guy? And, this is why teams convince themselves to stick with the old guy even when they've begun to believe he isn't good enough. What if the new guy is WORSE? But. Here's the thing. The new guy can be better, and that's a good thing, or he can be worse, and THAT DOESN'T MATTER."
Reporter: "Wait..."
Man In The Hat: "Think about it. If what you have isn't good enough, then, does it matter what degree of 'not good enough' you have? No. Because it's still not good enough. In school, you need 60 percent to pass a class. If you get 59 percent or 9 percent, you still fail. So, does it matter which of those percentages you get? Not in the big picture, it doesn't, because, either way, you fail. So. What you have to do is determine if what you have is good enough. Can you get there with the guy you have? If you think you can, then stay the course. But. The moment you start thinking you can't, you'd BETTER make a move."
Reporter: "Do you think you can't at welter?"
Man In The Hat: "This is what we've been discussing. And, no, we don't think we can't. Despite Tess' low opinion of Charlotte, our opinion is a little different. We think she's a very good welter. We think Antje has the tools to be one, too. The issue for us right now is, we're starting to get to the point of diminishing returns with welter title shots..."
Reporter: "How so?"
Man In The Hat: "We've now failed just about enough times that, if we finally succeed, it's not going to be a feather in Front Street's cap as much as an 'it's about time' kind of situation. For an individual fighter, something like that can be a positive. Overcoming the odds and getting back up after getting knocked down and all that. For an organization, though, it can become an albatross. Like I said, the Buffalo Bills. So. We've got to determine if we've reached that point and if it's time to move on from pursuit of welter gold. If it is, we need other things to occupy Antje and Charlotte...or we need to go another way with the division, maybe with girls like Katy who can fight both welter and light. We're thinkin' about all that, and we'll see where it takes us. Now. Let's watch some ball."
