2. AJ Lee vs Gail Kim (Flyweight)
AJ:
(31, 5’3, 6:2 FCBA, Free Agent)
Gail:
(41, 5’4, 0:4 FCBA, Kear’s Kats)
BEFORE:
“It’s my first VIX rodeo, so I’m excited. Ever since I was unceremoniously dropped by Holloway, I’ve been wanting to prove that they made a mistake,” AJ saying confidently before the fight, her WWE mic-skills not having lost a touch of quality. “Gail and I - we never wrestled, but she’s tough as bones and one of idols who spearheaded the division back in the day. So I’m happy to be facing her in the ring again tonight.”
Gail Kim may have just turned 40, but she’s certainly been keeping up to the times. Ever since leaving the WWE, she quickly made a name for herself in the indie circuit, and of course, as a multi-time Knockouts Champion in TNA.
“AJ’s being too modest. She’s done a hell lot more than I ever did in the WWE. But just because we respect each other, it doesn't mean that I’m gonna go easy on her. Bring out the fireworks, ladies and gentlemen, as you see two former wrestling champs square off tonight. Good luck to you, girl.”
Girls shaking hands at the podium, and though both are about the same height and build, one can't ignore the ten year age gap between them either. AJ in a black sports bra, white trunks and red gloves, showing off her toned midriff. Gail in classic red bikini, hair tied into whipped ponytail, with black gloves to match. HERE we go with ten rounds of Flyweight action!
ROUND 1:
AJ showing off her agility early on, treating the ring like a wrestling one as she scoots about, from left to right, at times even forgetting to fling punches at her foe. Gail the older, wiser one, taking the punches on her guard most of the time but other than that, barely punching back herself. And the round ends quickly with the lack of action. AJ steals it by a hair with her early aggression and overwhelming energy, but there's little point if neither girl manages to land their shots.
ROUND 2:
Gail a budding Flyweight herself when she won the WWE Women’s Championship back in her heyday, and she EXPLODES forward with surprising amounts of speed in the first minute, catching Lee with a few right jabs to the face. AJ not used to the feeling of getting stung repeatedly, first throws up her hands in surprise, before quickly being forced downwards to protect her tummy, as Kim continues to fire away down below. All that speed going to waste if Lee not having the sense to get the f*ck outta there when it matters the most… Gail confidently staying on her for the rest of the round, taking some return shots into the body and chin, but it’s clear as day who’s the one getting wrecked to hell and back.
ROUND 3:
Good show of ability from both girls thus far as they take a round apiece. Here comes Kim again, looking for an excuse to brawl. She keeps her center low and tight, lefts and rights following after, consecutively tagging the tummy and then going after AJ’s head, but gets denied when AJ simply keeps herself out of range this time round. She must have gotten the memo somehow, keeping out of reach of Gail’s punches for the rest of the round, and instead striking back strategically by peppering the face hard. This back-and-forth looks a tad familiar, with Lee using her feet to great effect, making the older woman struggle to keep up with her younger counterpart. A close round for either girl regardless, but it’s Lee strutting confidently back to her corner, even though Gail’s the one who took the slight edge for herself overall.
ROUND 4:
Gail’s body straining slightly as she gets up from her stool. By contrast, AJ right as rain and coming straight for her at lightning speed, by comparison. Another repeat of history here, with the 40 year old struggling to keep up with a younger counterpart in the long haul. Gail valiantly flinging her punches forward, but just too slow, too weak to do any damage. AJ weaving this way, that, all at the same time doing damage with leather landing on the tummy and banging off the side of head. It’s just TOO MUCH for Kim at the end of the three minutes - she takes a stiff right hand straight to the nostrils, GURGLES, then falls face forward onto the canvas! She’s out COLD!! Referee shouting down at her from above with each count called, but it’s no use - AJ wins this contest yet again!
Official Decision: AJ Lee defeats Gail Kim via KO4!
AFTER:
A second time round and AJ looks like she’s still got IT - whatever ‘it’ is - resulting in another stunning victory. She does that victory prance around the ring, that wiley grin on her face as though she expected this outcome all along.
Gail Kim still flat on the ground, chest rising and falling with each laboured breath. She’s helped up slowly by a sympathetic Lee, and the two wrestlers share a hug before escorting each other out of the ring to the sound of applause.
It’s a big night for Lee on one of the biggest stages of her career - truly a shame that she got dropped by management, with plenty still left in the tank and ready to give.
