TESS VAMORE
The big September PPV is in the books as one of the best ever it not the best. It was highlighted by three title fights and the first round of the lightweight tournament
MIchelle Williams successfully defended her title against Jessice Lowndes. I thought that Lowndes has a good chance to win this fight, but it was not to be. The Lioness Club did however, gain a title when Dobrev won over Scoldelario. Finally. Kate Upton remained the welter champ with her win over Kloss. After the fight, one of those big brawls took place. The best thing about it was, I wasn’t in it. My good friend CT was heavily involved. It’s interesting, I get involved in one brawl and everyone is arrested. In this one everyone went home.
The lightweight tournament went pretty much as expected. Most of the fighters who shouldn’t have been in the tournament to begin with, were eliminated. They include Palvin, Refaeli. G. Hadid, Jamie Alexander and Wagner. Nigri survived only because she was in with Hadid. The result that surprised me was Swift beating Yustman. It can’t be called an upset, but I thought Yustman would win. The highlight of the tournament was the Strahovski/Winstead bout, This was the 15th bout in the best rivalry going these days. Once again, Winstead proved the spoiler beating Yvonne who I still think is the best lightweight going. Maybe it is as the previous commissioner said, paraphrasing, “sometimes it’s all about style” As the results of the first round of tournament are in, it looks to me like Jenner and Lima have the best chance of walking away with the title
Outside of the tournament and the title fights there were thirty-two other bouts. In the welters both Rhoda and Righetti won as expected and should retain their rankings. Ambrosio won her fight, which was pretty much of a give me. As was Ren’s win over Lipa
In the bantams, Lilly scored a big win over VanCamp. I’m not sure who Dobrev’s next opponent will be, but I doubt it will be Lilly, since she has had one title shot this year. Minka Kelly disposed of Markle in what has to be an embarrassment for the Royals. Let’s hope they keep her in London
The flyweights had some great fights. Lilly Collins scored a big win over Danielle Campbell. Cyrus beat Lucy Hale and Winter beat Kreuk. The fight I enjoyed most was J. L. Coleman giving Lavigne a taste of her own medicine
There were three bouts that indicate deterioration in previously successful fighters. Portman lost to Olivia Holt on the heels of her loss to Winter. She has now lost four of her last five. At the age of 37 and a history of some 125 fights, the Hall Of Fame member could well be on the downside. Missy Peregrym has now also lost four of her last five conventional fights. I think the problem is she is fighting competition that is two big for her. I think she needs to move back down to bantam where she was quite successful in her younger days. Finally. Olivia Wilde, one of the four good remaining fighters in Bazz has now lost five straight as this stable continues to deteriorate. Bazz had one other fight on this card. Jill Wagner, she lost also
