TESS VALMORE
I note that this event takes place in Monte Carlo on a Friday night. I have nothing on my calendar for the 12th. I am going to talk to Beth and see if she can’t smooze the Wiz into going. We can fly Wizforce 1 into Nice and take the short drive to Monte Carlo
Before I begin my much maligned predictions, I have one question to ask. At the time this event takes place either Upton or Kloss will be the welter champ. Will the bout involving the champion be a title bout?
ROUSEY/NOLIN The 47 year old Nolin is second to the GOAT in the number of FCBA fights. Although being somewhat ancient, she still fights, having had two fights earlier this year losing both, one to Theron and the other to Upton. She has lost seven of her last eight and her last winning year was 2013. She will have a thee inch height advantage, but she is sixteen years older than Rousey. Rousey has had two fights against unimpressive opponents and won both. Rousey hasn’t showed me much yet, but Nolin’s time is past. Let’s hope that this is Nolin’s last fight. Rousey by a KO. If you decide to stop by the bar before this bout, or engage in a game of chance, you won’t miss much if you are late
RHODA/DECKER Decker has a bout with Ferguson on the 22nd. At present Decker, a former lightweight champion, is have a so-so year being 3-3 with losses to Ferguson, T. Atkinson and Upton. Rhoda hasn’t done much better being 4-3 for the year. She did beat Regan, but lost to Krsmanovic. Upton and Perry. This is Decker’s first year fighting at welter. I am not convinced that she is not better off at lightweight. Rhoda by a KO
KLOSS/G.ATKINSON When I first looked at this card I mistook Gemma Atkinson for Tahnee Atkinson. Atkinson had a great run in late 2016 and early 2017 winning seven straight including the welter title. Then including her last title fight, everything went north (remember going south is good) She lost six of her last seven, dropping out of the top ten both in Boxing World and Tractorpull rankings. Kloss had a great first year in 2016 going 6-0. Reality set in in 2017 and she won only six of thirteen fights. In one of those bouts. she lost to Atkinson by a TKO8. This year she is 2-0 and has a title fight scheduled on the September PPV. Boxing World has her ranked at four and Tractorpull at six. I think the bloom is off the rose as for as Kloss is concerned, but that said, I think she will win this bout by a KO
HANNAH FERGUSON/K. BROOK Brook is now 39 and is a former two time lightweight champion. Until this year, she fought a lightweight schedule. She is now 3-2 for the year as a welter. Boxing World has her ranked at 11 in the welters. She doesn’t appear in the Tractorpull rankings. Ferguson has been sensational since entering the FCBA. She has a 18-3 record since the beginning of last year, although nine of those wins were at JMDD. She ranks at two in the Boxing World rankings and three in the Tractorpull. She is two inches bigger than Brook and is 13 years younger. It’s not going to be a good night for Brook. Ferguson by a KO
KRSMANOVIC/UPTON At the present time, Upton is the welter champ. She has a title fight against Kloss in the September PPV. She is 19-6 since the beginning of last year with five of those wins being at JMDD. She was ranked at one by Tractorpull. which does not rank a fighter as champion and of course Boxing World had her as champion.. I am not as impressed with Krsmanovic as some. She is not having a good year coming in with 1-4 record. Size and age or not factors. Upton by a KO
REGAN/RIGHETTI There couldn’t be a main event much better than this. The two dominated the welters in the mid teens. Regan is a three time champ and Righetti has held the title five times. Righetti is having a great year being 8-1 at the present time. Regan has management problems as hasn’t gotten many fights in the last two years. Only two bouts last year and two so far this year with a fight scheduled at the September Asylum. She lost three of those four This is the finest rivalry among the welters. They have fought five times before with Regan holding a 3-2 edge. I like Regan a lot, but I just don’t bet against Righetti. Righetti evens up the rivalry
