TESS VALMORE
The May PPV was not quite as large as expected, but a very entertaining card. I went 20-8 in predictions. I did very well in the lightweights and welters and not so good in the lighter weights. I made a mistake or two in thinking traditional losers could win a fight. I was wrong. I also let my liking for certain fighters overcome good judgement much to my regret prediction wise
There were four title fights and only one title change, but the change ended a historic streak. T. Atkinson retained her title beating Freeman, Strahovski took care of Kerr and VanCamp shut down Kosarin. The news of the night was Vanessa Hudgens taking the title from Megan Fox, ending Fox’s record breaking 18 fight win streak that included seven successful title defenses. I don’t think anyone is going to challenge Fox’s run in the near future, if ever
Of the 29 bouts on the card only five were welter wars including the title bout. These fights produced no significant changes in the rankings
There were only five lightweight bouts in which only four were competitive Swift’s win over Winstead will jump her in the rankings and may well set up blonde lightweight title fight. Yustman’s win should move her back into the top ten and Ambrosio may well up her ranking. Decker won a welter battle. She is fighting in two divisions. I will keep her in the lightweights, Her win should help her.
I don’t mean to encroach on the expected Boxing World’s rankings, but the bantam fights should produce some significant changes. Nigri’s win over Bellisario should cost Bellisario her number one ranking and boost Nigri possibly into the top ten. Scodelario could move up and Demi Lovato down. Lovato’s loss to Dushku was a little on the surprising side. Bella Thorne will probably take a big jump, but not into the top ten.
The flyweight bouts went as mostly as expected. The biggest name bout was Portman/L, Collins which went Collin’s way. Cyrus scored a big win over Henstridge.
Lavigne won as expected and also as expected shot her big mouth off before and after the fight and had to pull her beaten opponents hair and slapped her. She may be proud to be known as the FCBA’s bad girl, but it is disgusting. Not to be completely outdone Cyrus also had to slap her beaten opponents face. Overall, I am proud to say almost the competitors showed good sportsmanship after the bouts
There two fights, that in my opinion, should have never been allowed. Who was going to win was obvious. One was Williams’ four and half minute beatdown of S.Hudgens and in the other the loser was removed on a stretcher. I understand and realize why the Commissioner’s office doesn’t want to decide who should or shouldn’t fight and admit that their position, in the terms of todays society, is probably the correct one, but the precedent has already been set in the previous administration. I guess I regret that that was then and this is snow
It seems strange to me that managers don’t want to give up on fighters that just can’t hack it Kane had a two inch height advantage and an experience edge and still lost her eleventh out of her last twelve Tisdale lost her seventh straight and hasn’t won a fight in almost four years, Her time is past. I don’t think I need to talk about Frege, who must be the most active loser of all time
In the lightweights Palicki’s future is highly questionable. A former two time champion and a big heavy hitter lost her fourth straight and her fifth out of her last six. Management claims it is a little temporary downside path. I think it is a lot more than that. Jessica Biel is another. She is in the Hall Of Fame and an eight time unified champion. She lost her sixth out of the last seven She has lost to good opponents, Maybe she needs to take a step back in competition and see if she can’t right the ship. If not, she should retire
A couple of the announced fights didn’t make the card, mainly Lawrence/Krsmanovic and Regan/Law. Hopefully they be held to the next PPV or will appear on CBAD or a mini PPV.
