Our reporter sits in the Great Room at Front Street watching baseball and drinking cold beverages with the Man In The Hat and Poindexter Del Crunchy.
Reporter: "I've been meaning to ask. How much did that cheese and fruit plate Cassie bought for Tess COST? That thing was HUGE. There was even some left for me, which is, shall we say, unusual..."
Pointy: "That girl is awfully free with Bazz's money..."
Man In The Hat: "Actually, she's free with MY money. She has a card linked to a special account. That's why we have a line item for her in our budget."
Pointy: "I shudder to think how much money you end up dumping in that account."
Man In The Hat (smiling): "Cassandra Lynn is not a high maintenance girl. But. She's not a cheap date. She needs things. We make sure she has them."
Pointy: "You ENABLE the girl, which is part of the problem."
Man In The Hat: "See, I don't see it that way. Let's face facts. She's gonna GET what she needs one way or the other. This way, it happens and your blood pressure doesn't go through the roof."
Pointy (sighing): "Good point."
Reporter: "Let's talk FCBA. How about that bantamweight round robin..."
Man In The Hat: "Color me less than surprised that Flanagan won all three. That girl is good enough to win a title around here. I like Ryan and Orrantia, too, mind. The latter was on our short list, as you know..."
Pointy: "She's a prospect, no question."
Reporter: "On another subject, Wiz, you seemed pretty high on a couple of the girls in the New Blood Flyweight tournament. And, I'm wondering..."
Man In The Hat: "About what?"
Reporter: "Well, obviously, you've got two flys that have stepped up into the ranks of contenders with Meester and Stewart. And, Jane's doing very well in her development. She looks like she's going to be a very good flyweight."
Man In The Hat: "I don't disagree with any of that."
Reporter: "But, Graham's another story. She hasn't broken through. She hasn't won the big fights. She's already been off the active roster once. If I had to pick a girl who might be replaced at Front Street, it would be her."
Man In The Hat: "Last year at this time, who would you have picked?"
Reporter: "Well..."
Man In The Hat: "Who would it have been?"
Reporter: "Rambin."
Man In The Hat: "And, what would you say Leven's chances of not being on the roster would be now?"
Reporter: "Very slim. Very."
Man In The Hat: "Exactly. This is why we don't make hasty decisions around here. We give girls time. We give girls chances. There comes a time when they run out of both, of course. But, that hasn't happened with Kat yet. Just because we like girls like Winter and Spreitler and Moretz doesn't mean we're going to dump somebody to go grab them. The rule here is,as long as you belong on this roster, you'll stay on this roster. Kat belongs on this roster as do the other 17 fighters we have on it. So, she'll stay on it. Now. Let's watch some ball, shall we?"
