Our reporter and his blonde companion arrive at Front Street to find all three rings in use as usual. In one, Serinda Swan works with Kesha as Mariska looks on. In another, it's Antje Utgaard and Kesha sparring as Jewel shouts instructions. In the third, Chloe Bennet works with Leven Rambin for Neve Campbell. All around the gym, other fighters condition on various pieces of equipment.
The reporters make their way through the facility, waiving greetings to various ladies before entering the hall leading to the offices, turning right, and finding the door at the end open.
Man In The Hat: "Tess! Come on in! Get IN here, Pietro!"
The reporters enter and take their familiar seats in front of the desk.
Tess (smiling): "So. Conveniently, when I was out of town, we have a show devoted to Front Street's participating in JMD. It's getting so a girl can't go back to Tennessee..."
Man In The Hat (laughing): "Well, first of all, as I've said, we'll take you up here full time any time you're ready to move to Philly. Secondly, we are not participating in JMD. We're hosting the show. Bert Parks hosted 'Miss America', but I never saw him in a swimsuit or an evening gown..."
Reporter: "Didn't have the legs for it, from what I've heard..."
Man In The Hat: "About once a year you have a good line, Smackeroo. I can't wait until next September. ANYway, there's a major difference between hosting and participating. We're not involved in the matches, and our policy against doing JMD remains in place."
Tess: "But, we're all aware that negotiations are on-going about possibly changing that..."
Man In The Hat: "We are simply listening with an open mind. There are folks around who'd like to see some of our girls engage in JMD fights. So, we're discussing with Stephanie if that might work. That's all the further things have gone. There's no story here."
Reporter: "On another subject, will Pink retire if she loses to Morrison like Tess suggests..."
Tess (narrowing her eyes): "You and I are going to have a long talk on a short pier, you know that?"
Man In The Hat: "Well, I don't think it's as bad as all that. Pink got caught her last time out. It's happened before. We've also had fighters lose two in a row before. I don't think it signals the end of anyone's career. This time last year, everyone was writing Rambin's obituary and talking about how Meester might be on her way out the door. You'll note that both fighters have had great years and solidified their positions here at Front Street."
Reporter: "So, Pink isn't going to retire?"
Man In The Hat: "Pinkness is 37. She's closer to the end than the beginning. But. So are a lot of fighters. She's also athletic as hell and in great shape. She has plenty left in her."
Tess: "The last roster change Front Street made was as a result of a retirement...when Grace retired last year. With Rambin and Meester having, in your words, 'solidified their positions here at Front Street', will the next roster change be as a result of a retirement, too?"
Man In The Hat: "I hope so. I like where we are right now. I like the roster a lot. I like everyone on it. I think we have 18 girls who have the potential to be champions, and, as long as that's the case, there's no need for a roster change. You know what ELSE there's no need for? A change in tonight's menu, which feature's chef's lobster ravioli..."
Tess: "Let's GO!"
