Our reporter and his blonde companion sit in the Great Room at Front Street sipping cold beverages and watching baseball with Poindexter Del Crunchy and the Man In The Hat.
Tess: "So, THIS is how you spend your evenings when I'm not in town..."
Reporter: "Not bad work, if you can get it."
Pointy: "It's nice to have you with us, Tess..."
Tess: "Wasn't much sense in my flying out Sunday night to fly back in on Tuesday."
Man In The Hat: "Agreed. Big day tomorrow, and you need your rest."
Reporter: "Everything's ready for Asylum, I'd imagine."
Man In The Hat: "You'd imagine correctly. We're ready to go, and it should be a heck of a card."
Tess: "There are some tough fights on there for Front Street. Rambin/Spiridakos. Meester/McCurdy. Kesha/Rihanna..."
Man In The Hat: "None of those are going to be easy. But, the fact is, no fight is easy. Any time you step between the ropes, it's tough. Some are just tougher than others."
Reporter: "Since Tess isn't going to ask, what did you think of the McMahon/Daddario fight last night?"
Man In The Hat: "Stephanie's a physical girl, so she's tough in JMDD. But, I'm never surprised when Alex wins. She's championship material. And, I don't just mean in JMDD. She can wear the lightweight belts if she concentrates there."
Tess: "Speaking of the lightweight belts...would you really push Kesha there if she beats Rihanna?"
Man In The Hat: "That's exactly what I'll do. Four girls. Anna. Gemma. Katy. Kesha. And, as for Mr. V's comment about us letting Kesha render Gemma's big win meaningless by doin' this, we run different stables, Mr. V and I. He has everyone in their set roles. I don't. And I won't. You get what you earn here, and you earn what you get. If you're Gemma, comin' off a big win over Yustman, you figure you've earned consideration for a title shot. If you're Anna, comin' off a big win over Palicki, you figure the same. And, if you're Katy, comin' off a big win over Winstead, you ALSO think you've earned consideration. All of those girls are right. Now, assumin' Kesha wins, she'll have followed up a huge win over Bloodgood, a former champion just like the ladies Anna, Gemma, and Katy beat, with one over another Top Twenty-Five fighter. SHE has to figure she's earned the same consideration. And, she's right. Now, who am I to tell any of those ladies they have to play second fiddle to one of the others? Why does Gemma want to be here if she's never gonna do more than carry water for Katy, for example? That's why we don't have Alphas or set roles here. Everybody has a chance. Just go win fights. Earn opportunities. And, you'll get them. Of course, this is all academic at this point. Kesha has to win first. And. As Tess points out, that ain't gonna be easy. But if she does? Four girls. All pointed at the lightweight straps."
Tess (smiling): "An all-out assault..."
Man In The Hat: "That will be what the rest of 2016 is about. Regaining the lightweight titles. And, if we do it, it will mark a first. The first time Front Street has held two titles in the same year. Now, let's watch some ball, shall we?"

Excuse me but it was BWO that ranked Odette #1 and Tractorpull ranked her #2. And Arterton beat her. Rihanna isn't ranked by either BWO & TP at light and Palicki's ranked #14 by BWO and unranked by TP. You can flush our Alpha status down the toilet but in this case why make those rankings in first place? They define who's Alpha, who's Beta and who's Delta. If beating #14 equals beating #1 all the rankings are pure hogwash, period. We follow real-life procedures here but obviously BWO thinks beating Yustman is worth the same money as beating Portia de Rossi. We just don't get that at all.

Palicki is an elite light and former champion. Winstead is an elite light and former champion. Bloodgood is an elite welter and former champion. Those are all quality wins. All four girls deserve a push...IF Kesha follows up against Rihanna. If not, it's three. But, either way, all these girls had huge wins and all earned their pushes at the title.

We're talking straight numbers YOU came up with via BWO rankings. You want to ignore the rankings you personally created? That's nonsense.
Be advised we didn't use champion/elite/contender/gatekeeper/journeyowman/jobber status to justify our point. We're talking pure maths. Last time we checked #1 is worth more than #14. Besides these girls are born in a different era. Bloodgood is like 12 years older than Kesha. Don't tell me it doesn't make any difference. Your logic suggests all these girls are robots who always fight at the top of their game no matter if they're 19, 29, 39 or 49.

Wait. Everyone who's ever weighed in on this including Sim has always said welter, which relies more on power and less on speed than any other weight, is the exception to the age rule. Kesha was a dog against Bloodgood, as she should have been, and she beat her. It was a huge win against an elite welter and if she follows that up with another win over a Top Twenty-Five welter, one who handed her one of only two losses she's had in the last three and a half years, then she's earned the push. Torv's more than earned it as have Perry and Arterton. It's not for us to shove one above the others. All three, or four if Kesha wins, are deserving. It's up to the champion to decide which, if any, she'd like to fight.
As for the rankings, I really don't think we can seriously say anyone should be bound to the rankings when the top contenders almost never get the title shots. The rankings are a useful guide, if folks choose to use them, but that's all they are.

That's why we HATE to yo-yo around divisions. Whatever Kesha does against welters should be non-existent when it comes to the lightweight rankings. The welters don't have the speed whatsoever to compete against a lightweight 12 years younger than her. Power is one thing but it's nothing without control. And lightweights have the speed control over welters. Heck, Kesha would be favored to knock out Cassidy Freeman too. LCA has stuck with it's girls fighting at one division only while FS has girls doing lightweight, welterweight AND catchweight. That's simply too much but it helps some girls like Kesha look good. We've said about the age difference which is no problem for FS (Stewart/Hayek being chief example) but ANNOYS us a lot. Whatever, that's old news. Again, you should ask Ginny to vacat the lightweight title and lock up the show until next May. Everyone knows Front Street rules the lightweight. How about letting some other stables get in the title mix? Greed is good? Odette Yustman waited SEVEN years to get her first title shot and Anna Torv had hers two years ago and deserves another one so fast? That's ridiculous! Btw, If you REALLY meant that with the rankings, you'd stop doing them. Alas we think you WON'T!

I really DO mean it with the rankings, yet we still need rankings, so I'll do them unless the board asks me to stop. As far as us ruling lightweight, we've held the title twice in over six years. There are individual fighters who've done better than that. So. No. We don't.

What happened six years ago doesn't matter. What matters is here and now. The rankings reflect the CURRENT form of the fighters not the ALL-TIME legacy. Otherwise Charlize Theron would be ranked #1 at both LW & WW but she's not.
Last time I checked FS had 5 girls ranked in the Top 20 of the LW division. Show me one other stable that dominates so much? Most if not all of the stables doesn't even have 5 fighters in a division let alone them doing so well.

Well, we aren't dominating the title, that's for sure, because Strahovski had a longer reign than all the Front Street lights combined.

And Theron held the title longer than Strahovski. What's the point of such dumb excuses?

For what it's worth, Strahovski does not want to be reminded of anything Theron does better than her at. It's always good to see a good discussion on the boards and just wanted to wade in a bit - cautiously - to test the waters! Of course, we really appreciate all of the hard work that goes into the rankings and definitely think that the BWO rankings should continue! We do understand that some of the results should be weighted and that not all wins should be treated equal (Beating Yustman should mean more than beating Portia de Rossi, certainly) However, the rankings are just a guideline and to be honest, as mentioned, the number one contender rarely gets the title shot. It's usually down to "what have you done for us lately?" and whoever has the momentum, popularity or interest of the champion is going to get the nod. For us, it depends on who is most deserving and of course, who is going to make a good match-up or rival for our fighter. I do think that champions and managers in general look at the quality of opposition - who have they beat lately and when? The BWO rankings also reflect consistency in activity and not necessarily the level of competition always. Those are all important factors to consider, which is why we also appreciate the balance with Tractorpull's rankings as well as they do consider other factors such as activity and quality of competition. You can argue that some stables are going to be more successful in particular weights as that's where they have focused most of their efforts, but dominating the rankings and dominating the title are two separate things. Lots of stables have plenty of deserving girls, but getting a title shot is not as easy and can only go to one fighter at a time. I do think our managers and champions are pretty good at giving titles to not only veterans but new faces too to keep the titles fresh. We've had plenty of veteran and first-time champions just this year alone, as well as veteran first-time champions, so it's up to the various managers to put their fighters in consistent opportunities for them to succeed, for the champions to notice that hard work and to discern who is most deserving! Of course, we're not sure beating Rihanna, who is a big name in Hollywood and on the charts but has not exactly set the FCBA world on fire, definitely puts Kesha in line for a title shot. It's up to Front Street, of course, who they want to push for a shot at the title, who they want to push at light and or welter, as they have several fighters who could probably compete at welter and might help that division a bit and what their goals are as a stable. It's all about opportunities and if they get one, what they do with it! You can argue about the rankings, of course and we encourage people to have a healthy debate if they want about them, especially when new rankings appear. People should be passionate about their fighters and making sure that their hard work is recognized. However, if you want your fighters to move up in the world, make sure they are staying active and taking on the best bouts possible. That should be reflected in the rankings but regardless of where you are in the rankings, if you are kicking ass and taking names in the league, we have a feeling the champions will notice and if not, nothing wrong with a little promotion and challenging to make sure that they do!

Well, to clarify, we weight quality of opposition pretty highly in the BWO rankings. For example, if you lose to a highly-ranked fighter, you may slip a few spots, depending on what girls around you did. Lose to a fighter who's much lower in the rankings, and you'll find yourself taking quite the dip. Same for wins. Beat Righetti or Regan and you'll fly up the welter list. Lose to them, and you won't fall far. Lose to Prejean and I'm not sure if you'll hit bottom, but you'll be able to see it from there. 😁
One thing we didn't always do well with the BWO rankings was factor in activity and that sometimes led to girls who hadn't fought in a while moving up in the rankings. Due to input from folks who, rightly, thought that wasn't proper, we've changed the formula and no longer have those problems.
And, as to Kesha, the Rihanna fight is key because it would follow on the Bloodgood win. Rihanna herself wouldn't propel you to the title picture. But. Bloodgood kind of does, assuming you were somewhere in the vicinity to start with, being highly-ranked and a former champion. The key, though, is follow up. If Kesha can't beat Rihanna, she's out of the picture. If she can, we think she's in it. But. That's obviously up to the champion's manager, not us.
