BEFORE:
"Always good to be back in Philly," says Leighton with a smile. "Always. But. I've got business tonight, and I'm going to get the job done."
"She's a girl I've always enjoyed watching in the ring, a girl I've always liked," says Billie. "But, tonight, like Leighton said, it's about business."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach, with plenty of patio heaters and fire pits functioning, is about to get some use. And, that's 'Somebody To Love' by Robin Thicke, and, coming across the sand is the star of horror films like 'Drive Thru' and 'The Roommate', the lovely Leighton Meester!"
McCarthy: "One of Front Street's MANY failed flyweights..."
O'Dell: "Meester climbs through the ropes and is helped off with the robe. She's looking plenty good in that red number we've seen before. And, that's 'You Should See Me In A Crown' you hear hammering through the arena, and here comes the singer of that tune, 'Buxom' Billie Eilish!"
Tess: "Billie definitely NOT a failed flyweight, as her title reign earlier this year proved."
Cassie: "And, there's no question she's looking to regain that gold."
O'Dell: "Billie through the ropes and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve and the crowd giving it up for the former champion in that emerald number she likes. Ladies about ready. Let's get some picks. Tess likes Billie. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Meester was a failure. Eilish!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go, and Leighton wants to do some moving here. Obviously, doesn't want to stand in front of a hitter like Billie all night, but this is a bit more legging than we're used to seeing from Meester. She's kicking up sand in a big way..."
McCarthy: "And Eilish a slow plodder like her trainer, Campbell...."
Cassie: "You DO know that Britney is the head trainer of the flyweights, right?"
McCarthy: "Campbell is a rotten apple that ruins the whole bushel!"
O'Dell: "Billie taking her time, working forward, looking to bring the older brunette to battle. Leighton allowing that to happen on occasion, getting off in combination, but keeping the exchanges short. All working pretty well for the former Front Streeter right now..."
Tess: "Definitely is. She's moving very well on the sand, something that can be a challenge for some girls."
O'Dell: "Final seconds tick away in what's been a very good first for the visitor. Meester a quick combination, slips a counter, circles away, and there's the bell. No doubt about this one. Leighton takes the first and leads 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Eilish working to cut the ring now. She's stepping forward, angling, bringing Meester to battle more often, and the results are working in the younger brunette's favor. Billie giving as good as she gets in this frame..."
McCarthy: "A REAL fighter would have had Meester out of there by now!"
O'Dell: "Leighton again keeping the heavy exchanges short. She's a veteran and she's savvy. Able to tie up and slip away, get back to the war of movement. Good, two-way stuff in this round, with neither fighter getting all of what she wants."
Tess: "From Leighton's point of view, this is going pretty well. She's hanging in there with a girl who's well known to end things quickly."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. We're down under twenty seconds to go in what's been a competitive second round. NICE combination from Meester there and BILLIE FIRES RIGHT BACK with some solid shots of her own at the bell. Close. Eilish."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Meester back on her horse to start the third. She's 38, but not looking a day of it. Clearly in top shape for this one. She's been on the move the entire fight, and, while it's still early, she's shown no signs of slowing down..."
McCarthy: "Nothin' but a number, Jenny O. Nothin' but a number."
O'Dell: "Eilish again looking to cut, but Meester making that tough for her, jabbing effectively, slipping and dipping. She's got some reach on Billie, and she's using that effectively, too. This is excellent stuff from the older brunette."
Cassie: "Really slick, and showing plenty of athleticism."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch in the third, and it's been Meester's round all the way. Eilish patient, working the feet. She's not going to walk into anything. Five seconds to go. Leighton circling, and there';s the bell. Meester easily in the third."
Tess: "And, Leighton's back on top 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "More of the same to start the fourth, but Billie getting more aggressive now. Let's remember how athletic Eilish, a former dancer, is, and she's showing it now, bouncing forward to cut the ring and get off in combination..."
McCarthy: "Throwing Meester to the defensive."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. Leighton covering up, tying up, wants to get some space here and BILLE WOBBLES HER WITH A RIGHT HOOK! A NASTY hook from Eilish and Leighton is RUMBLIN', STUMBLIN' FUMBLIN' across the sand..."
Tess: "Did well to say on her feet."
O'Dell: "Billie going to try to remedy that right now, stepping to, backing the older woman across the beach, trapping her on the ropes and going BODY. Leighton tying up, hanging on. Eilish punching free, lands a hard right and there's the bell. Billie big in the fourth."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Billie in seek and destroy mode as we start the fifth. She's walking down Leighton, dropping heavy right hands on her. Meester giving ground, jabbing back in spots, trying to run some clock here and get the legs back under her..."
McCarthy: "Needs to keep playing defense and bide her time..."
O'Dell: "That's exactly what she's doing and DOWN GOES LEIGHTON! A straight right hand from Eilish and Meester splashes to her back in the sand! Billie quickly to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Leighton sitting up at six. Seven. To her feet at eight. Older woman takes the mandatory...and ON COMES BILLIE..."
Tess: "This is going to be a LONG 90 seconds for Meester..."
O'Dell: "Eilish letting the hands go, driving Leighton to the ropes and WORKING HER OVER TO THE BODY. Meester crouching and she's WOBBLED with an uppercut and THAT'S IT! Ref leaping in and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'Buxom' Billie Eilish!"
Cassie: "Nothing lucky about THAT."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Billie Eilish, and Billie, good fight in there..."
Billie (nodding): "Going to give her a lot of credit. She's skilled and smart and she can hit AND take a punch. Lots of girls at this weight she can beat. Lots of them."
Cassie: "What's next for you?"
Billie (shrugging): "I'm game for whatever. Beach? JMD? Fly? Bantam? Just line it up!"
"Always good to be back in Philly," says Leighton with a smile. "Always. But. I've got business tonight, and I'm going to get the job done."
