BEFORE:
"It was fun when we did this the first time," says Vonnie with a gorgeous smile. "So, I'm game to do it again."
"Last time, she got me," Taylor admits. "She deserved it. Well. This time will be different."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach is about to get some use. That song you hear is 'Short Skirt/Long Jacket' by Cake, and here comes Lookout! Boxing Hall of Famer Yvonne Strahovski across the sand..."
McCarthy: "I've been waiting ALL night for this. Strahovski STARCHED this overrated TOOTHPICK last time, and she's going to do it AGAIN and send her PACKING!"
O'Dell: "Strahovskl through the ropes and helped off with robe by the Lookout! corner crew, and she's getting quite the pop in that white number she likes. And, that's 'Natural' by Imagine Dragons pounding through the arena, and here comes 'The Face', Taylor Hill across the sand!"
Tess: "And, while Hill is certainly not going anywhere, win or lose tonight, she HAS apparently lost the top spot in the pecking order among the bigs to Kennedy McMann..."
McCarthy: "The Toothpick and the Fraud! They'd be the world's worst superheroes!"
Cassie: "Right you are, BFF, so this is a big one for Taylor tonight..."
O'Dell: "Hill steps between the ropes and is helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve, and she's getting pop for that azure number we've seen before. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Taylor. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Strahovski again and Hill GONE!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Ladies on the move early, no surprise, as both of these fighters are athletic and like to get their respective boxes on. And, that's just what they're doing now. Sand being kicked up over on Asylum Beach..."
Tess: "And both ladies showing how good they are at this right now."
O'Dell: "Definitely the kind of round the purists love. Ladies active, snapping out those left jabs. Using the left and foot, head, and hand movement to create openings for right hands. Both able to put punches together..."
Cassie: "And, a lot of those punches being slipped or blocked."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Plenty of good, clever defense on display as we head down the stretch here in the opening stanza. SHARP exchange there, and the brunette backed the blonde up a step. And, there's the bell. Close. But Hill."
McCarthy: "And the toothpick leads 10-9, but not for long!"
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second verse, same as the first. Both fighters feeling good about these terms, and neither one is looking to make a change. Blonde and brunette clearly thinking that, if we keep on boxing, I'VE got the advantage. One of them is wrong, but WHICH one..."
McCarthy: "It's the TOOTHPICK. There's a REASON I got rid of her!"
O'Dell: "Right now, everybody looks right, because Strahovski's getting plenty of work done, but no more than Taylor, who's having lots of success of her own. Once again, it's a round the purists have to be loving and one without much in it."
Tess: "Just good stuff from both fighters."
O'Dell: "Final seconds ticking away in another excellent tactical round. NICE combination from the blonde and she follows with another. Hill fires back, and there's the bell. Close again, but it's Vonnie who's going to get the points this time."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "More boxing as we start the third. Ladies settled in now. They have the range. They're in rhythm. Good things happening for both blonde and brunette as the kick up the sand, ranging all across Asylum beach this evening..."
McCarthy: "Stupid fake beach in the middle of PHILADELPHIA!"
O'Dell: "Strahovski a bit more aggressive in this round. She's certainly not damning any torpedoes, but she's committing a bit more on these flurries. Definitely feeling good about her offense, and she should be, because she's getting work done."
Cassie: "But, so is Hill."
O'Dell: "Definitely. That's been the story of this one. Even rounds, excellent work on both offense and defense, neither fighter able to grab an advantage, but both getting plenty done. Five seconds left in this one. GOOD right hand from Hill and there's the bell. Close. Strahovski."
Tess: "And, Vonnie takes the lead 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins on the same terms, no surprise as it's now clear this is what both fighters want to do. Sand being kicked up once again, as there's plenty of movement going on and HILL ANOTHER RIGHT AND VONNIE IS HURT!"
Tess: "That's the right hand we saw in the last round, but Taylor landed that one CLEAN..."
O'Dell: "Did, indeed, and Straho is more than a little wobbly as Hill lets the hands go and DOWN GOES VONNIE! Right hook and Strahovski crashes to her right side in the sand! Taylor quickly to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Straho to hands and knees. Seven. Eight. Blonde to her feet..."
McCarthy: "That's right, Strahovski. Shake it off!"
O'Dell: "Referee giving the blonde the mandatory while he wipes the worst of the sand from her and ON COMES TAYLOR! Hill winging away now, driving Vonnie to the ropes. Straho covering up, keeping the guard high, jabbing back in spots as the ref looks in. Time getting away from brunette as she tries to end this thing...and there's the bell. Huge round for Hill, but Yvonne survives."
Cassie: "And, Taylor's back in the lead, 38-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Hill looking to finish this thing now. Vonnie still clearly buzzed, and Taylor well knows it. She's stepping to behind that left hand, backing Yvonne across the sand. Aussie playing defense, willing to trade space for time right now..."
McCarthy: "Smart boxing from a veteran."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. Meanwhile, Taylor staying sound here, knows how dangerous Yvonne is. Not going to take unnecessary chances. All the while, though, she's piling up points and punishment, looking to find the shot that ends this."
Cassie: "Straho getting those legs back, though..."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. Yvonne giving as good as she gets now, and Taylor backing off on the offense, respecting the blonde's power. Ten seconds remaining in the fifth. NICE right hand from Hill again, and there's the bell. Taylor. Wide."
Tess: "And, Hill leads 48-46 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth begins with the blonde going over to the offensive in a big way. All of a sudden, the ranged boxing part of our program is over, and the Aussie is walking the American down behind the left hand. Taylor firing back in counter, but that's about all she's getting done."
Tess: "Vonnie's definitely changed the complexion of the fight here."
O'Dell: "Sure has. She's taking control of the proceedings, and it's not like Hill is allowing that, it's just that she can't do anything about it. Instead, the Hall of Famer's in command, moving the brunette back, back, back across the sand."
McCarthy: "Just keep after her..."
O'Dell: "That's precisely what the blonde's going to do as we come into the last fifteen seconds of the sixth. It's been an excellent round for Strahovski. Taylor never hurt, but she's definitely come off second best. There's the bell and it's Vonnie wide."
Cassie: "But Hill still leads it, 57-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Blonde continuing with the aggression early in the seventh. She knows she's behind, and she's working to address that issue, and doing so very effectively at the moment. Hill again giving ground, firing back in spots."
Cassie: "Taylor getting put on the back foot too much right now."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed, and Yvonne's taking full advantage when she gets her there. GOOD right hand Straho and Hill is HURT! Taylor staggered and DOWN SHE GOES! Straight right from Vonnie sends the blonde crashing to the sand!"
McCarthy: "YES! YES! Na, na, na, na! Na na na na! Hey, hey, good try!"
O'Dell: "Blonde to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Hill to her feet at six. Ref brushing off the sand while he gives her the mandatory and HERE COMES VONNIE! Aussie all OVER the American, battering her into the ropes, STAGGERING her with a right hand and it's OVER! The ref leaps in and it's OVER and your winner by TKO7 is Yvonne Strahovski!"
Tess: "What a comeback!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Yvonne Strahovski, and, Vonnie, got in a hole, but you came roaring back!"
Yvonne: "It's tough with her. She's a champion, and she fights like it. You know there are going to be rough spots. You've got to get through those and then get yours back...and I did."
Cassie: "You seem to like it here on Asylum Beach..."
Yvonne: "Well, you know, this is the granddaddy of all the mini-PPVs. Asylum's become an iconic arena. It's a treat to be a part of these cards, and I'd love to come back!"
"It was fun when we did this the first time," says Vonnie with a gorgeous smile. "So, I'm game to do it again."
"Last time, she got me," Taylor admits. "She deserved it. Well. This time will be different."
