"Here's the thing," says Hayden with a smile, "This girl is good. No doubt. But, I'm GREAT and I have the titles and the bust in the Hall of Fame to PROVE it."
"She's as good as anyone I've ever fought," Ariel admits. "But, she's NOT as good as ME."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach, is about to get some use. And that's 'Wake Up Call' you hear behind us, and across the sand comes the singer of that tune, Hall of Famer Hayden Panettiere..."
McCarthy: "Weirdo must have been drinking more of that SWILL than usual when he booked this card. THIS girl is a REAL fighter..."
Tess: "No doubts about that..."
O'Dell: "Panettiere between the ropes and helped off by the Foxfire corner crew to reveal a white number that's got the crowd popping. And, that's 'I Knew You Were Trouble', not the Taylor Swift version, but the cover by the young lady coming across the beach right now, Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter!"
McCarthy: "The only thing endangered by her is her own JOB here, because she can't win a big fight. EVER!"
Cassie: "Mac is just ticked because Ariel STARCHED her protege Brittany Snow here in Philly last month..."
McCarthy: "SHE GOT LUCKY! And if Winter hasn't been kicked into the street, Snow will be BACK for REVENGE!"
O'Dell: "Ariel between the ropes and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that curve-hugging white number she likes and the crowd appreciates. Time for some picks. Tess likes Ariel. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Hayden's a REAL fighter. Panettiere!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go. Ladies doing a little feeling out early. They HAVE fought before, but that was three years ago and it wasn't on the sand, so, a lot of recon going to be necessary. Hayden moving well as always, very light on her feet..."
Cassie: "There's always an argument about that...about whether girls who move well have an advantage or disadvantage on the sand..."
O'Dell: "There's a school of thought that the sand slows down a girl who moves well for sure. And, the opposite opinion is that it slows down girls who AREN'T light on their feet even MORE. Both blonde and brunette appear to be moving plenty well right now, though..."
McCarthy: "The more athletic you are, the bigger advantage you have on the sand! That's why a plodding OAF like Campbell refused to fight ME there..."
O'Dell: "We're into the final ten seconds of a very close first. Nice combination from Hayden, who seems to be getting in rhythm now. And, there's the bell. It's going to be narrow, but the blonde grabs the points in the first."
Tess: "And takes the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Hayden getting rolling as we start the second. She's moving extremely well right now, playing the geometry perfectly as usual. She's in and out, left and right, here and there, getting off and slipping rejoinders. Vintage Panettiere, Mac..."
McCarthy: "When this girl really has it going, she reminds me of ME."
O'Dell: "And, she's got it going right now. Winter getting beaten to punches, preempted, tossed onto the defensive again and again. She's trying to cut the ring, force some pitched battle, but Hayden too slick and too quick for that..."
Tess: "There's a reason this girl is in the Hall of Fame..."
O'Dell: "Lots of reasons, and you're getting a taste of a bunch of them right now, as is Ariel. Final seconds ticking away in the second, and it's been Panettiere in control the entire way. There's the bell and the blonde's got the second wide."
Cassie: "And she extends her lead to 20-18."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "More movement from Winter now. She's coming forward behind that jab, trying to cut the ring and force battle, and she's getting that done in spots. Some nice exchanges developing, and the brunette is getting the better of them."
Cassie: "This is what Ari wants to do. Get physical."
O'Dell: "Definitely is, but Hayden holding her own in those exchanges. And, she's also working to keep them short, moving well as always, flicking that jab in the brunette's face to slow down the pursuit. It's been a good round for both fighters so far..."
Tess: "Not a lot in it."
O'Dell: "Definitely not. We're down under twenty seconds to go, and it's anyone's round at this point. GOOD right from Winter and HAYDEN answers with one of her own. And, there's the bell. Dead even round, I think."
McCarthy: "And, that leaves Hayden up two, 30-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Ladies kicking up the sand again as we start the fourth. Ariel wants to come forward behind that jab, cut the ring. Hayden moving very well, bouncing around, snapping out the jab, picking her spots to engage with the brunette..."
McCarthy: "Panettiere outsmarting this kid, and that's no surprise, considering how DUMB Weirdo and his minions are..."
O'Dell: "Hayden a nice combination and WINTER ROCKS HER WITH A RIGHT HAND! Ariel a BLISTERING right and Panettiere is HURT! Ariel all in now, driving the blonde back across the sand and pinning her to the ropes..."
Tess: "She'll want to finish now."
O'Dell: "She absolutely does and that's what the brunette's trying desperately to do. She's firing away with both hands, but Hayden playing good defense here. Blocking, rolling with, running clock as the final seconds expire. There's the bell. Winter. Wide."
Cassie: "And Ariel cuts the lead to one, 39-38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Hayden still looking buzzed as we start the fifth, and Winter knows it. Ariel coming forward behind that left, backing up the older woman with hard right hands. Panettiere staying on the defensive now. Playing for time..."
Cassie: "And Ari knows she can't GIVE her time..."
O'Dell: "Winter pressuring, taking some chances here, but remaining sound. GOOD right hand by Ariel and that shook Hayden. Winter letting the hands go and THERE'S A RIGHT HOOK AND DOWN GOES PANETTIERE! Blonde crashes to the sand after a NASTY right hook..."
Tess: "And, that might do it!"
O'Dell: "Winter to a neutral corner. Hayden down on her right side. Count at three. Four. Five. Hayden rolling to her belly at six. Seven. Eight. Pushing to hands and knees. Nine...TEN! It's OVER! Panettiere still trying to get off all fours as the count passes her by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter!"
McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Ariel Winter, and Ari, that was a heck of a fight..."
Ariel (nodding): "She's in the Hall of Fame and she belongs there. She's as good as anybody I've ever fought. But, like I said coming in, I'm BETTER."
Cassie (smiling): "You've had a busy year, six fights already and still a quarter to go. Are you thinking about some time off?"
Ariel (shaking her head): "YOU know better than that. I'm ready to get right back in there. Beach, JMD, fly, bantam. You name it. I'm there."
"Here's the thing," says Hayden with a smile, "This girl is good. No doubt. But, I'm GREAT and I have the titles and the bust in the Hall of Fame to PROVE it."
