Next up former champions Michelle Keegan and Sophia Bush duke it out here for the second time in their career. The first time around Sophia beat Michelle under JMD rules in the BBU back in 2020. Can Michelle even the score on Copacabana Beach?
Before the bout both women were given time to speak to the FCBA Networks Alicia Atout in their hotel rooms. Michelle is wearing blue jeans and a white vest as she sits on her bed. She looks deep in thought.
"See I remember Sophia's breasts being pressed into my face like it was yesterday. I owe Sophia a beating for that and this is my chance to give it to her, no JMD rules, simple boxing" says Michelle with some tension clear in her posture.
Michelle then adds "I have told my fans that I am far from done. This is the next era for me and I will win another world title." Looking straight at the camera as she says that. Fully focused on her future.
Sophia meanwhile is in her locker room wearing a black satin robe as she gives her comments in her rooms doorway. She says to Alicia "oh hey Alicia, as you can see I am getting ready for bed but I'll give you a few quick thoughts." Smiling as makes sure the door behind her isn't wide open.
"Look Michelle pushed me the first time we fought but I was the one who won. After all this time we both need a win. I aim to make it two and zero over her, Michelle has travelled here to simply lose" says Sophia, before she adds that she is going to sleep.
Fighting time; the ring posts have been set into the sand itself. There's two bleachers opposite each other full of spectators, with a judge's table with their backs to the water, as the sand has been raked from the first two fights to stop either fighter tripping up due to the surface being uneven.
First comes Michelle to the squared circle with coach Denise Lewis. She is looking calmer then she did the night before. Still she steps inside the ring wearing a white bikini, red gloves and her hair in a ponytail. Michelle shadow boxes in her corner to warm up.
Now here comes Sophia with her coach Taryn Terrell with her. Sophia taps her black gloves together as she walks to the ring. She is wearing a gold coloured bikini with black trim, her hair is braided as she climbs into the ring. Taryn massages her shoulders to keep her loose as she limbers up.
The fighters walk to the center of the ring. Locking eyes in a tense stare. The referee soon finishes their instructions, ordering the fighters to touch gloves, there's a quick swipe of their gloves with their opponents set. Jogging back over to their corners, they are ready as the bell rings to start 10 rounds of Flyweight action.
Round 1:
Both jog out their corners, engaging around the middle of the ring with a few quick fire flurries. Sophia is already looking to annoy Michelle with a few cheeky hooks around her jugs to shake them around. Michelle spikes her back in the face with straight punches to remind her this ain't JMD rules.
A double jab catches Sophia into her nose to make her cover up more tightly. Michelle moving inside and out to work, showing how comfortable she is on the beach as Sophia is looking caught on the back foot here. Sophia does land a few solid punches with her back near the ropes but it's Michelle landing the better volume of shots.
Michelle digs in a straight to the chest of Sophia before landing a left cross. Sophia almost shelling up as her back is on the ropes, not landing much as Michelle digs away at her torso and side of her head. Gumshield bared by Keegan as she means business here. The round ends with Michelle marching back over to her corner with her supporters whooping up her success.
Round 2:
Back out they come with punches being exchanged on the outside. Michelle gets inside to land two short right hooks to the ribs of her foe to make her hiss. Sophia replies with a little shove with her left glove, followed by a right cross into the cheek of the English fighter to turn her head.
More back and forth between them till Bush catches out Michelle with an uppercut. Backwards goes Michelle as she is driven onto the ropes by Bush, who slings in her own body shots as she presses her forehead against the guard of Michelle to try to pin her down. Michelle enforcing the first clench of the fight to slow her down.
They are broken up with Michelle boxing around the outside part of the ring with straight shots aimed at the face of Sophia. Who soon slips one to land a counter left hook into the ribs of Michelle, then a straight into her face. The bell rings with both looking determined. Getting wiped down on their stools as they take in advice from their coaches.
Round 3:
Exchanging more at midrange as Michelle looks to get off the blocks quicker. We get more entrenched battles for control as they dig their toes into the sand to sling in their shots. Sophia chops in some short body shots before she is nudged back by Michelle.
A missed straight by Bush is rewarded with a left hook on her ear. Back goes the American with Michelle getting into her face. Sophia feeling the turnbuckles on her back as her torso is targeted by Keegan. Needing to try to push Michelle off so she can get into space.
They are both digging their toes into the sand again as Michelle forces the issue. Sophia can't get too far away from the ropes as marks form on both beautiful fighters bodies and cheeks. The round comes to a close with Michelle getting a nod from Denise, Sophia meanwhile takes a breath to keep relaxed.
Round 4:
Michelle looking to be the aggressor as she is spiking Sophia through her guard to her face. Sophia has a small cut on the bridge of her nose now. The American slams in a few short cross punches in reply as this is becoming a battle of wills between these brunette beauties.
A left cross catches Sophia on her cheek before a straight lands on her cut. Sophia begins to grimace as she is forced onto the ropes by her opponent. Michelle looking the more relaxed fighter as she digs her toes into the sand while getting clipped around the sides of her head.
There's a sweat soaked clinch enforced by Sophia. A few digs into kidneys by both fighters before the referee can split them apart. They resume with both going toe to toe. Sophia clearly wanting to show Michelle she ain't going anywhere without a fight. The round ends with both locking eyes as they walk past each other. Sitting on their stools with pundits agreeing that Michelle is taking the lead here.
Round 5:
Looking to keep the pressure on Sophia; Michelle lands several hooks to the body but is getting hit with some back around the side of her head. Soon enough a right hook catches Michelle above her left eye and opens a cut above her eyebrow. That spooks Michelle as she backs off.
Smelling blood in the water Sophia slams in a double jab to the face of Michelle before a right hook is blocked by Michelle. Both fighting hard on the inside but Sophia is tagging Michelle with some hard shots. An uppercut snaps back the head of Keegan to put her on her heels.
Driving back Michelle into the ropes, when Sophia isn't whacking away at the belly button of Michelle, she is banging her punches into the head of the English star. Both end up clinched because of Michelle, sweat soaked bodies grinding before the referee steps in to split them up. A quick flurry is exchanged before the ding of the bell. Michelle gets patched up as she sits on her stool. Sophia grips the middle ropes either side as she takes a quick breath to keep herself in check.
Round 6:
Michelle is certainly not rushing across the ring now. Instead Sophia is starting to find holes through her guard into her face to ward her back. Michelle firing in a few short cross punches to try to make Sophia think about attacking her as both women are marked up.
A straight catches Michelle on her chin to make her take a step back. Michelle is too open as she tries to fire back. RIGHT HOOK ON THE CHIN TWISTS MICHELLE'S HEAD AND DOWN SHE GOES TO HER RIGHT SIDE!
Sophia kicks a little sand at Michelle before she walks to the neutral corner. 1....2....3... Michelle rolls to her back with her left glove touching her cut. 4....5....6.... Michelle isn't moving much more then that though as she shield her eyes from the sun with her left glove. 7....8.....9....10 this fight is done and dusted!
Winner Sophia Bush KO Round 6
After:
Sophia walks over to Michelle and places her right foot on her chest. Asking her "are we done now? Do I need to beat you again someday?" With Michelle weakly trying to push the foot off her chest. Sophia shakes her head and heads off to her stool, seeing the defiance of Michelle hasn't left the beaten fighter yet.
But Denise needs to help Michelle to her feet. Michelle looks furious as she sits on her stool. This was supposed to be her shot at advancing her career again, instead she is being patched up, wincing each time her cut is touched.
In the opposite corner Sophia looks a little relieved she emerged the victor. Her nose is sore from the cut and she was pushed hard in the middle of the fight. Still it is her going to get her hand raised as she grins like a Cheshire cat.
Michelle watches from her stool as Sophia gets her right hand raised in victory. Shaking her head in disbelief that she lost to Sophia once more. The winner not helping as she flexes her arms with a wink at Michelle. Causing Keegan to climb out the ring with a stumble. Michelle doesn't want any help as she ventures to the changing rooms.
The winner meanwhile thanks the fans for their support. Placing her right hand on her chest as she tells her fans that she loves them. Leaving the ring moments later with Taryn to her right, both chatting about Alessandra promising a celebration party if Sophia won. It's party time for the Girls Friday crew later tonight.
