Our reporter and his blonde companion sit watching baseball at Bazz with Beth Harnois, Cassandra Lynn Scerbo, Poindexter Del Crunchy, and the Man In The Hat.
Reporter: "Well, quite a weekend, gang. We talked Asylum. Let's talk about the pay-per-view. What jumped out at everyone?"
Beth: "Well, no offense, Wizziepooh, but a huge win for Foxfire with Alex taking the JMDD titles..."
Man In The Hat: "None taken, dear. Alex probably should have been champion before now. She was a deservin' contender and she's a deservin' champion..."
Cassie: "Beer, Cole, Roberts, Free, Collins, Mishy, Dove. They all looked plenty good. Flyweight's loaded. And, Beer. She's...intriguing."
Pointy: "Another big win for the Big Rig. Never a surprise, of course, but still impressive. Palicki was heard from again, also not a surprise. And, Upton/Decker. Good fight, but there's no doubt who's top dog in that rivalry. At least for now."
Tess: "What about you, Wiz?"
Man In The Hat: "Lind. Hawkeye's got somethin' there. I think Scott's gonna do well at Foxfire, mind, but Lind seems to have taken that last step with HISC. Chopra looks like she could be next on Kosarin's list. No offense, Beth, but a BIG win from Bella and nice to see Peyton's doing well at HISC..."
Beth: "None taken, dear."
Man In The Hat: "And, don't let that win by Cassidy Freeman go under the radar. That's a top-level girl she beat. Freeman's still got it."
Tess: "What's the thinking on the Fates roster changes?"
Cassie: "Not surprised to see McNamara go to Queens. They clearly have big plans for her and they should, because she's got a lot of talent."
Pointy: "And, Rosie H...the girl's just been struggling. A change of scenery may help."
Reporter: "Speaking of roster changes, Wiz, I'm hearing you aren't happy with the PPV results..."
Man In The Hat: "Well, son, that's not completely true. We went 2-3. Well. You fight five on PPV, what you expect is 3-2 or 2-3. So, no issues there. Also, no issues with any of the individual fights. Look at the girls you beat and the ones you lost to. Alex Daddario. You can lose to her any day of the week, especially at JMDD. Millie Bobby Brown. Same thing. DiDonato, arguably the best light in the world right now, and she has the belts to prove it..."
Reporter: "But..."
Tess: "Hush, dear."
Man In The Hat: "And, TWO nice wins there. Mudd really showed somethin' rallyin' back from that loss to Duff by beating Vismara."
Cassie: "And, Billie came up HUGE against Portman."
Man In The Hat: "Exactly. So, overall, not so bad. Two wins on PPV is always a good thing. You'd like to get three, but, again, 3-2 or 2-3 is what you expect. My issue is that we did not cover ourselves with glory in the big fights. My issue is that lightweight has always been one of our two best divisions, right behind bantam...five of our fourteen titles have been at light...six at bantam. And, yes, we're now lookin' at a lot more things than we used to. Used to be we had three or four lineal belts, dependin' on if we were competin' at welter or not, and the Ice Hotel. Now, we got the four lineals, two Ice Hotels, two beach titles, JMD and JMDD. But. Bantam and light have been our bread and butter here, and I can't allow one of those divisions to slip..."
Reporter: "But..."
Tess: "HUSH, dear!"
Man In The Hat: "In the last eighteen months, we have had FOUR shots at the lightweight belts. In the last TEN months, we've had THREE, which is, by the by, the number of flyweight title shots we've had in THIRTEEN YEARS. Two of those opportunities went to Hill and one to Del Toro. We have cashed exactly ZERO. ZERO. In fact, we have lost our last FIVE shots at the lightweight titles. Five in a row. Now. You don't expect to win every title shot. In fact, you don't expect to win even half. After all, it's a fight against the champion. What you want out of five there is that same 2-3. If you can get 3-2, all the better. But. Not 0-5. That will NOT DO. So. I gotta do some thinkin' there. We've gotta get back to the days when we had Torv, and Decker and Arterton and Perry all winnin' belts. The question is, how do we do that? That's what I gotta figure out. Now, Beth, dear, your drink is empty. Let Wizziepooh go get you a refill. Pointy, I'll get us both another. Anybody else? No? OK. I'll be right back."
Reporter (quietly after waiting about thirty seconds after seeing Cassandra Lynn putting her finger to her lips): "Is he serious? We heard about Mudd last month, and that seems to have blown over..."
Cassie (shaking her head): "You think you know Uncle Wiz, but you really don't. I know how his mind works. He's never going to make a hasty decision based on one fight. Upsets happen. Remember Chloe losing to Alice Eve? What he looks for are PATTERNS. And, when he sees one he doesn't like, that's when he makes changes. He NEEDS Taylor and Kara to be that one-two punch that Anna and Gemma were, that Katy and Gemma were later..."
Pointy: "That's what we look for here, lad, in each division at least TWO fighters who are legitimate contenders..."
Cassie: "He's maybe questioning whether that's the case right now. Do we HAVE that at light? Should Kennedy be part of that, and, if she is, then...who's the odd person out? Is there one? Does he want another prospect in there instead? That's what he's thinking right now..."
Tess: "You kind of pooh-poohed the Mudd thing last month..."
Cassie: "I did, because it was noise. This is NOT noise. Nothing may happen, but something COULD. I've got to talk to Neve about this. Meanwhile, let's watch some ball, shall we?"
