BEFORE:
"I'll admit," says Tessa with a smile. "This isn't the easiest of assignments. But. I'm up for it, as Kristen is about to find out."
"She can fight," says Kristen with a nod. "She can beat girls. But. She can't beat THIS girl."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'I Will Go To War', and here comes the singer of that tune, Valkyrie herself, Tessa Thompson!"
McCarthy: "I recognize her! She was in that movie with the guy with the big hammer!"
Cassie: "Yes. Yes she was..."
O'Dell: "She was also here at Asylum a few years back to fight Chloe Bennet..."
McCarthy: "I try to block the nights I spend here out of my memory..."
Tess: "You're not the only one..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, and drink in the lovely Ms. Thompson as she climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe to reveal a coral number that has the crowd's attention. And, that's 'Helter Skelter' by the Beatles you hear behind us, and here comes the FCBA's biggest fan of the Fab Four, 'The Five-Tool Player', Kristen Stewart!"
McCarthy: "FINALLY! A REAL fighter!"
O'Dell: "K-Stew, as usual, tapping glove to fist with Mac on the way past the table. She's into the ring and helped off with the robe behind Jewel and Neve, and the crowd popping for Kristen in that lime green number she likes. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Stewart. Mac?"
McCarthy: "REAL fighter. K-Stew!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Unanimous for the third, and Tessa wasting no time getting after Kristen. Obviously, Thompson a girl who's fought some bantam, she fought there the last time she was here. And, we saw this aggression against Chloe Bennet back then, Mac..."
McCarthy: "And, I'll say it again. This is the way she has to play this. She's NOT going to outbox Kristen Stewart."
O"Dell: "Not very likely, but she's getting work done right now by getting in Kristen's grill, backing her up, forcing her to cover up. Stewart willing to give ground. She's seen this before, and she's seen it a lot, because, as Mac points out, there isn't a lot of percentage in boxing her."
Cassie: "And, like with saw with Demaiter, Kris had some problems with this early in her career..."
O'Dell: "Been a different story since, though. She's learned how to handle pressure and she does it quite well. At the moment, though, it's working for Tessa, who lands a solid combination at the bell. It's a no-doubt round for Thompson in the first..."
Tess: "And, Tessa grabs the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "More of the same from Thompson here. She doesn't have a lot to lose in this one, so she's going after it. Stewart, meanwhile, looking to manage this aggression. She's giving ground, countering here and there. Would have expected to see more of the left from Kristen..."
McCarthy: "I think, eventually, you will. She'll establish those defenses."
O'Dell: "Hasn't so far, hasn't really tried to. Instead, she's fighting on the defensive, showing some real skill there, just as we've seen before. She blocks and slips well, but there's a lot of leather coming at her. Some of it is going to get through."
Tess: "Thompson working some body in spots."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. Shorter woman all about bringing the physical right now, and it's playing to her advantage. We're down under ten seconds in what's been another good round for Tessa. Nice right hand, Thompson and there's the bell. No doubt again. Tessa."
Cassie: "And Thompson stretches the lead to 20-18."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Stewart looking to establish those boundaries now. She's working the left hand, getting it in Thompson's face, slowing the older woman down with it. Tessa working hard, getting past, getting inside and working some body."
Cassie: "Kris slipping away, getting back to the jab."
O'Dell: "Lots more movement from the younger woman now, and it's making a difference. Thompson still getting inside to get work done, but she's not doing it at will, so, instead of a one-way round, we have our first two-way stanza of the fight."
McCarthy: "This is Kristen and what makes her so hard to deal with. Technically and tactically, she's perfect."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch we come. Nice combination by Stewart there and those may have been her best punches of the fight. Final seconds ticking away and there's the bell. Closer this time, but Kristen's going to get on the board in the third."
Tess: "And cut Tessa's lead to 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Adjustment by Tessa here. Thompson in a quarter crouch, gloves high, working past that jab and getting inside to work some body, then go back to the head. Kristen not going to play that game. She's tying up, forcing breaks, getting some space..."
McCarthy: "No reason to bang in there with this girl..."
O'Dell: "That's clearly the thinking, but Tessa forcing things again and again, picking off that jab, stepping inside, and getting a TON of body work done in this frame. GOOD right by Thompson and Stewart with a solid counter, but that doesn't slow Tessa."
Tess: "Looking to pull an upset that would be a LOT bigger than the one we saw last month..."
O'Dell: "Would, indeed. We're down to fifteen seconds to go in the third, and it's been another good round for Thompson. She works a little body in there. Kristen wraps up around the head, forces a break, and there's the bell. Tessa's three for four tonight."
Cassie: ":And she extends the lead back to two, 39-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Stewart doubling and tripling on that jab as we start the fifth. Getting serious about keeping Thompson off right now. She's following on with solid right hands. Tessa not cowed at all here. She continues working forward in that quarter crouch..."
Cassie: "The words 'back up' aren't in Tessa's vocabulary."
O'Dell: "Definitely don't appear to be. GOOD right hand, Stewart there. That might have been her best punch of the fight. But, again, it doesn't slow Tessa for long. Thompson working inside, working some body. Kristen shoves off, gives a little ground, back to the jab."
McCarthy: "Stewart a SMART fighter. Which makes me wonder why she keeps hanging around HERE..."
O'Dell: "We're down to the final seconds in what's been a competitive fifth. Stewart snapping a couple of jabs into Thompson's face, then landing a solid right hand at the bell. Fairly close in this stanza, but Kristen's going to get the points."
Tess: "And cut Tessa's lead to one, 48-47 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Pattern pretty well set as we move into the sixth. Kris at range working that left hand, trying to keep Tessa off. Thompson looking to close, pressure, bang, bring her power to bear. And, for the second round in a row, both fighters having some success..."
Tess: "Stewart REALLY working that jab, always in twos and threes."
O'Dell: "And, it HAS served to slow Tessa down. But, Thompson is still coming, and when she gets inside, she's getting work done. Tessa going body and ROCKED WITH A RIGHT HOOK! Thompson staggered and DROPPED by a three-punch combination!"
McCarthy: "It's OVER!"
O'Dell: "Just may be. Thompson down on her right side. Stewart to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. No movement at all from Tessa. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! That quickly, it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is 'The Five-Tool Player', Kristen Stewart!"
Cassie: "Nothing lucky about that."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Kristen Stewart, and, Kris, she gave you trouble early."
Kristen (nodding): "Definitely wanted to get physical, and I expected that, dealt with it before. But, she's a smart fighter. She kept changing up the geometry, made herself hard to deal with. Eventually, though, I solved for 'x' and that was the end of it."
Cassie: "What's next for you?"
Kristen (smiling): "Just going to keep working and see what happens. Just like I always do."
"I'll admit," says Tessa with a smile. "This isn't the easiest of assignments. But. I'm up for it, as Kristen is about to find out."
"She can fight," says Kristen with a nod. "She can beat girls. But. She can't beat THIS girl."
